This

guide

and

the

The

the

manual

presents

detailed

the

and

plot

mechanisms,

including

installation,

operation,

1.2

GENERAL

DESCRIPTION

The

LVOl

Printer/Plotter

hard

copy

device

manufactured

Versatec,

Inc.,

Cupertino,

California,

exacting

set

DEC

specifications.

Its

speed,

compact

size,

and

quietness

operation

make

ideal

for

use

hospitals,

research

laboratories,

and

offices.

The

line

printer

has

132

columns,

ASCII

character

set,

and

prints

speed

500

lines

per

minute

(full

line).

The

plotter

speed

120

lines

per

second

maximum,

with

data

transfer

rate

500K

bytes

per

second

maximum.

Printing

accomplished

depositing

electrostatic

charge

dielectric

surface

and

blackening

the

charged

areas

with

fine

particles

deposited

from

liquid

toner.

The

paper

then

dried

directing

air

flow

over

the

paper.

The

LVOl

available

two

models.

The

115V

model,

designated

LVOl-BA,

handles

104—132

Vac

Hz.

The

240V

model,

designated

LVOl-BB,

handles

208—264

Vac

Hz.

1-1

Interfaces

the

LVOl

and

most

DEC

computers

available.

The

interface

the

LVOl

and

PDP-8/M

designated

LV8;

the

the

LVOl

and

LV12;

the

also

known

the

1.3.2

Plot

When

the

plot

selected,

the

LVOl

This

example,

input

Because

the

electrostatic

method

writing,

data

must

presented

plotter

the

desired

graphical

information.

This

can

accomplished

with

basic

software

package

which

translates

simple

commands

into

the

required

binary

data.

Unlike

pen

plotters,

speed

not

dependent

the

complexity

the

image

produced.

For

example,

the

LVOl

could

produce

8-1/

inch

long

inch

wide

graph

seconds,

regardless

complexity.

This

opens

new

dimension

the

use

plotting

with

computers,

since

pen

plotters

have

always

had

severe

limitation

speed

due

the

necessity

writing

every

line

with

single

writing

pen.
