EASY3452 Getting started

1.1 Introduction

This document explains briefly how to install and run an EASY3452 V1.1 PUCCINI

evaluation system.

1.2 Overview

The EASY3452 consists of an evaluation board, a power supply and documentation.

Two LEDs are included. A green LED to indicate that the board is powered and a red

LED that shows that the line interface receives no signal (LOS, red).

To connect the PUCCINI to an E3, T3 or STS-1 line, two BNC connectors are

available. Access to the system interface is possible via a jumper field representing

the transmit system interface signals XCLK, XDIN, XDOP and for the receive system

interface signals RCLK, RDIN and RDOP. The device can be programmed in a SW

and a HW Mode. Both is supported by the evaluation board. In case of HW mode

the CSQ has to be tied to GND and all other µP signals have to be set to the

selected modes. In SW Mode the µP programming is done by setting the selected

mode and generating a CSQ signal. The emulation of the SW mode is possible with

the help of on board CS Generator, which generates one CS pulse. If an external

µP is available, the signals can be connected to the JP1 directly, so that a complete

control from an external CPU is possible.

1.3 Setting up the System for an external T3 Remote Loop

Use the supplied switching Ac adapter to power up the evaluation board; green

LED on.

Check the correct function by resetting the board. If power is on and the serial

interface is not connected the LEDs should flash once after RESET and then the

green and red LEDs should stay on.

Check the jumper and DIP switch settings described as follows.

JP1: All jumpers set, exception: L_CSQ 7 8; this jumper is not set.

Signal connected to GND

Connect a T3 signal to the BNC transmit and receive connectors.

The dark red LOS LED indicates that a signal is received.

The external remote loop is closed. The clock and data are removed from the line

inputs RL1/2 and routed back to the line outputs XL1/2.

1.4 Test connectors

The evaluation board is equipped with several test connectors to scope, connect or

to input signals (see figure 1).

1.4.1 JP1

Jumper 1 allows to connect all µP signals of the PUCCINI to the DIP Switches. With

the setting of the DIP switch the signal is connected to GND (DIP SWITCH position

ON) or connected to V33 with pull ups.

If the jumpers are not used the signal is open and can be feed from outside e.g. from

an external µP interface. The device has internal pull ups. Please refer to the pin

description of the Data Sheet.

1.4.2 JP2

Jumper 2 allows access to the system interface and to close an external remote

loop.

1.4.3 JP3

Jumper 3 allows access to the JTAG pins of the device.

1.4.4 JP4 / JP5

The GND of the BNC receive and transmit connectors can be connected to the local

analog receive and transmit GND.

1.4.5 JP7

To be used with future versions of the device.

XJATT has to be connected to GND with PUCCINI V1.1.

1.5 DIP Switches

If the µP signals of the Puccini are connected via Jumper 1 to the DIP switches, they

can be set to ‘1’ (=OFF) or ‘0’ (=ON). This allows the HW/SW programming of the

device.

1.6 Oscillator Socket

The evaluation board is equipped with the DS3 Oscillator. For E3 and STS-1. Please

refer to the oscillator characteristics given in the Data Sheet.

1.7 CS Generator

In order to test the SW programming of the device, a Chip Select Generator is

implemented on the board. The following jumper setting for CSQ is required:

JP1: CSQ 1 = open

L_CSQ 7 = set

Program the selected mode with the help of JP1 and push the CS button to generate

a chip select.
