TRENDnet TE100-S810Fi - Switch Manuel utilisateur

Introduction

In the modern society, communication and sharing information is

essential to our lifestyle. Computer networks have proven to be one of

the fastest methods of communication.

The 8-port Management Switch series are compact desktop size

switches which are ideal solutions for SOHO (Small Office or Home

Office) network user. It provides wire-speed, Fast Ethernet switching

function that allows high-performance, low-cost connection. The

Switches feature a store-and-forward switching and it can auto-learn

and store source address on an 8K-entry MAC address table.

Figure 1-1. The 8port Management Switch

The Switches provides 8 switched auto-sensing 10/100 Mbps RJ-45

Ethernet portsplus one 100Base-FX fiber port. The Switch will

automatically detects the speed of the device that you plug into it to

allow you to use both 10 and 100Mbps device. The 10Mbps

bandwidth will accommodate 10Mbps workgroup hubs while

simultaneously providing the 100Mbps bandwidth needed to

accommodate multimedia applications. In addition, each RJ-45 port

supports Auto-MDIX function.

TheTE100-S810Fi couples with one 100Base-FX fiber port. There are

4 types of fiber connectors available for the convenience of your

connectivity on the Switch. These fiber connectors are

SC/MT-RJ/VF-45 (multi-mode fiber) and SC (single-mode fiber).

However, the fiber port can be used to connect to a remote side up to

2 Kilometers (multi-mode fiber) or 15~60 kilometers (SC single- mode

fiber) away.

With their build-in Web-based Management, managing and

configuring the TE100-S810Fi becomes easier. From cabinet

management to port-level control and monitoring, you can visually

configure and manage your network via Web Browser. Just click your

mouse instead of typing command strings. However, the

TE100-S810Fi can also be managed via Telnet, Console, or SNMP

Management.

Management Methods

The TE100-S810Fi series supports following management methods:

Console and Telnet Management

Web-based Management

SNMP Network Management

Console and Telnet Management

Console Management is done through the RS-232 Console Port.

Managing the TE100-S810Fi in this method requires a direct

connection between PC and the TE100-S810Fi. While Telnet

management is done over the network. Once the TE100-S810Fi is on

the network, you can use Telnet to Log in and change the

configuration.

Web-based Management

The Switch provides an embedded HTML web site residing in flash

memory. It offers advanced management features and allow users to

manage the TE100-S810Fi from anywhere on the network through a

standard browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer.

SNMP Network Management

SNMP ( Simple Network Management Protocol ) provides a

means to monitor and control network device, and to manage

configurations, statistic collection, performance, and security.

Hardware Description

This section mainly describes the hardware of the TE100-S810Fi

series. The Switches is a compact switch ( 10 inches ) with 8x

auto-sensing 10/100Mbps Ethernet RJ-45 ports ( 8TP Management

Switch ) plus one 100Base-FX fiber port (TE100-S810Fi ).

The physical dimensions of the TE100-S810Fi are: 250mmx

132mmx 37mm ( Lx Wx H )

Front Panel

The Front Panel of the TE100-S810Fi series consist of 8x

auto-sensing 10/100Mbps Ethernet RJ-45 ports ( automatic

MDI/MDIX ), one 100Base-FX fiber port (TE100-S810Fi ) and the

LED indicators are also located on the frond panel of the switch.

Figure 2-1. The Front Panel of the TE100-S810Fi

The Front Panel of the TE100-S810Fi is displayed as below. There

are four types of fiber connectors available for the convenience of

your connectivity. These fiber connector is SC multi-mode.

Figure 2-2. The Front Panel of the TE100-S810Fi

RJ-45 Ports (Auto MDI/MDIX ): Eight 10/100 auto- sensing

for 10Base-T or 100Base-TX connections.

[ In general, MDI means connecting to another Hub or Switch

while MDIX means connecting to a workstation or PC.

Therefore, Auto MDI/MDIX means that you can connect to

another Switch or workstation without changing

non-crossover or crossover cabling. ]

100Base-FX Fiber Port: The distance for fiber cabling can

be extended up to 2 kilometers.

LED Indicators

Console Port : Console management can be done through the

Console Port. It requires a direct connection between the Switch and

an end station ( PC ) via a RS-232 cable.

Desktop Installation

Set the switch on a sufficiently large flat space with a power outlet

nearby. The surface where you put your Switch should be clean,

smooth, level, and sturdy.

Make sure there is enough clearance around the Switch to allow

attachment of cables, power cord and air circulation.

Attaching Rubber Feet

A. Make sure mounting surface on the bottom of the Switch is grease

and dust free.

B. Remove adhesive backing from your Rubber Feet.

C. Apply the Rubber Feet to each corner on the bottom of the Switch.

These footpads can prevent the Switch from shock/vibration.
