1 Introduction
The GW-23 interfaces both the peripheral control units and a virtual digital I/O sub-
system to a structured network such as:
•X.25 via X.28 asynchronous RS-232 PAD
•X.25 via ISDN channel D and asynchronous RS-232 terminal adapter
•Ethernet TCP/IP protocol
Also, a dial-up, switched modem connection is supported as backup of any of the
above listed solution.
The GW-23 gateway is composed by one CPU board, one optional ethernet adapter
and one optional I/O board. The gateway is then installed on a connection board,
where the serial and I/O connections are made available.
Each GW-23 can manage up to
4 serial lines;
1 ethernet 10baseT connection;
up to 16 digital inputs and 8 digital outputs
Note: The optional I/O espansion is supported only with special version of manage-
ment station software; this board is not documented in this edition of the GW-
23 technical manual.
The four serial lines can be connected to
one RS-232 adapter for X.28 or ISDN-D;
one full modem;
two to Cerberus control units, supporting Cerban protocol

2.1 The CPU board
The CPU board is the main board (CD98600).
Fig. 2-1- The CPU board
On this board there are:
•the CPU, RAM, UARTs and other electronic components
•four dip switch blocks (SW1 - SW4), used only for the board factory setup
•one reset push-button, used to reset the board
•one service push-button, to send the service signal to the Neuron Chip
•four sets of two LEDs (TX green and RX red); these LEDs show the status of
UARTs RX/TX lines
•six LEDs (LD1-LD6 green, yellow, and red) used for diagnostic purposes.
The six diagnostic LEDs marked LD1, LD2 and LD3 have the following meaning:

2.2 The connection board
The connection board (CD96812) has two connectors to insert the CPU and I/O
board in.
On the board there are two DB9 D connectors for the two serial ports (Com 3 and 4).
COM 1 and 2 are accesible through screw connectors - only the TX, RX and GND
signals are available. They are used to connect the Cerberus control panels.
On the same connection board there is the power supply block. It has three pins: the
central one is the ground, the two laterals are marked + and -. You must connect here
a 13.8 Vdc voltage source.

2.3 Power supervision
The power supervision board is reporting the following information on a set of LEDs:
Red ⊗⊗ Tamper: normally OFF, it indicates tamper condition
Yellow ⊗Low Battery: normally OFF, it is ON if voltage drops below 10.8V±0,5V
Yellow ⊗Fuse Battery: normally OFF, if ON, it indicates that fuse (T3.75A)
is broken
Yellow ⊗Power Fault: normally OFF, if ON, it indicates a fault in the supply unit
Green ⊗Main: normally ON, if OFF, it indicates 220 Vac missing
Green ⊗Power ON: normally ON
