4 HOME PROJECTOR RANGE
New SXRD panels for amazing
cinematic 1080p HD resolution
The new Silicon X-tal Reflective Display (SXRD)
panel has been developed and refined by Sony to
reproduce superb 1920 x 1080 High Definition output.
By dedicating one SXRD panel to
the colours red, green and blue,
the SXRD system eliminates colour
breaking – and guarantees an
outstanding picture.

The pristine image produced
by three SXRD panels.
The typical ‘screen door’ effect
seen on projectors without SXRD
technology.
Full HD 1080p resolution of 1920
x 1080. Three panels – red, green
and blue, ensure optimum colour
reproduction and result in over 6.2
million pixels, more then double
the pixel count of 720p projectors.
Faster response time
The 2.5 millisecond response time
contributes to the overall effect
of fluid, natural movement
essential for a convincing
recreation of the cinematic
experience. When compared to
the 8 millisecond response time
of a conventional LCD television,
you begin to get a sense of just
how fast SXRD panels really are.
Film-like reproduction
of 35mm film. SXRD provides
film-quality smoothness by
minimizing the space between
pixels (0.25µm VPL-VW80) for
smooth and dot-less pictures.
Higher Contrast Ratio
Contrast is central to superior
picture quality, so the innate high
contrast of SXRD is leveraged by
Sony’s Advanced Iris 2 system to
produce a super-high contrast
ratio of up to 60,000:1
(VPL-VW80).

1080p High Definition – a superior viewing experience
Newly developed SXRD panels and 1080p HD combine to deliver an
overwhelming viewing experience on a screen far superior – and larger
– to that displayed on flat panel TV technology.

1080p High Definition represents a
quantum leap in picture quality.
With three of Sony’s new
1920 x 1080 SXRD panels at the
heart of the BRAVIA SXRD Home
Cinema Projectors, a consistently
superior image is produced
across the entire screen. The
unique combination of three
separate panels of 1920 x 1080
resolution (one each for red,
green and blue) means that SXRD
can deliver over 6.2 million pixels,
more than twice as many as the
2.8 million pixels you get with
other 720p HD ready projectors.
As minuscule image details finally
become distinct, films, sports
broadcasts and concerts come
to life as never before. At this level
of resolution, individual pixels
remain entirely imperceptible,
allowing for the reproduction of
colourful landscapes and
fast-moving sequences with
absolute supremacy.
8 HOME PROJECTOR RANGE
HD technology offers a true-to-life picture quality, but blowing it up to
300”/7.6m also makes you notice any flaws. Sony’s SXRD Home Cinema
Projectors have many features that ensure optimum picture quality.
Optimum picture quality from a multitude
of picture enhancement technologies
Fully Digital Signal Processing
by BRAVIA ENGINE 2 and
BRAVIA ENGINE PRO
The unique BRAVIA ENGINE 2
found inside the VPL-HW10
and VPL-VW80 drives its
amazing picture by generating
incredible colour and clarity
through eight separate picture
enhancement processes
carried out in real time.
Each of these stages has its
own specialised function.
Together they generate a
picture that is optimised in
every way, from the accuracy
of the contrast to the precision
of the colour reproduction.
The VPL-VW200 boasts the
advanced BRAVIA ENGINE PRO
featuring Digital Reality Creation
(DRC-MF v2.5) which further
improves both Standard and
High Definition signals through
four additional processing steps,
so that you see every detail
clearer than ever before.

Smooth Motion with Motionflow
Dark Frame Insertion
To bring the thrill of watching
fast-paced, cinematic action to
your home, the VPL-VW80 and
VPL-VW200 feature a technology
called Motionflow Dark Frame
Insertion which makes motion
much smoother. This innovative
process creates and inserts
artificial frames, first comparing
key visual factors on successive
frames – then calculating the
split second of ‘missing’ action in
the sequence. Although other
technologies also insert frames in
a similar way, Motionflow Dark
Frame Insertion uses a unique
algorithm that can take into
account more visual factors from
the existing frames – so the new
frame is much more accurate.
The optional insertion of darkened
frames heightens the contrast
and eliminates any judder. This
action mimics that of actual
movie projection meaning, you’ll
experience movies and sports
with a greater sense of realism
than ever before.
Without Motionflow with
Dark Frame Insertion.
With Motionflow with
Dark Frame Insertion.
The first stage in ensuring
optimum colour reproduction
is carried out by the BRAVIA
ENGINE 2, which optimises every
frame for vibrant and lifelike
results. If additional adjustment
is necessary, Real Colour
Processing (RCP) provides a
precision toolkit for getting the
right results. Crucially, Real Colour
Processing allows you to adjust
the hue of a specific colour
without changing the whole
image. So if something like skin
tone needs adjustment, you
can do it without altering the
colour of the sky or the
background of the scene.
