Product Overview

RG-S8606/S8606 B/S8610/S8614 high density multi-service IPv6 10G core routing switch provides

users with high-speed non-blocking data switching. With powerful switching and routing functions

and secure intelligent technologies, it can be used together with various series of Ruijie Networks

switches to provide users with complete end-to-end solutions. It is ideal for large-scale network core

backbone and heavy traffic node switches. By expanding with high-performance multi-service cards,

RG-S8606/S8606 B/S8610/S8614 supports MPLS and IPV6, and satisfies customers’ flexible and

complex application requirements.

Applications:

Core layers of enterprise networks of educational, financial and governmental organizations

Running environment that needs powerful routing function and carrier-class security & reliability

High-layer switching of enterprise networks with high bandwidth and 10G needs

Enterprise environment that needs to provide high QoS assurance for various applications

Core switches used in large and medium-sized LANs and small and medium-sized enterprise

networks.

Safety Precautions for Movement

RG-S8606/S8606 B/S8610/S8614 is large and heavy. When you handle them, please pay attention

to the following requirements:

Turn off all power supplies and unplug all power cables before you move the switch. Note that

there is more than one power cable.

Plug out power, fan (especially for RG-S8614, with heavy fan. Guard against slide when

removing) and service modules to reduce the chassis weight before moving the switch for a

long distance.

At least two people are needed to move the switch. Do not attempt to move the switch by one

person only.

Keep balance when moving the switch, and avoid injuring your leg and feet or spraining your

waist.

Grasp the handles on both sides of the chassis, not the power system handle, fan handle and

the back panel handle. Those handles are used to install and remove corresponding parts, not

to bear the whole chassis weight.

The whole switch weight may be higher than 80kg during the movement.

To correctly move the RG-S8610/S8606/S8614/S8606 B, refer to the following Figure 2-1, 2-2,

2-3 and 2-4.

Preparation Before Installation

Temperature and Humidity Requirements for the RG-S8606/S8610/S8614

Operating temperature 0ºC–40ºC

Storage temperature -40ºC–70ºC

Relative humidity 10%–90%

Temperature and Humidity Requirements for the RG-S8606 B

Operating temperature 0ºC–50ºC

Storage temperature -40ºC–70ºC

Relative humidity 10%–90%

Static Discharge Damage Prevention

To prevent damage from static electricity, you must pay attention to the following:

Proper grounding of the switch and floor.

Dust prevention measures are taken in the room.

An appropriate humidity is maintained.

Do not wear loose clothes or any other things that may be caught by the chassis during

installation and maintenance, for instance, necklace and ring.

Do not let any clothes touch a circuit board. An antistatic wrist strap can only prevent static

electricity from human damaging the circuit board, but cannot prevent any static electricity

on clothes.

Try to hold a circuit board by its edges. Do not touch any components or the PCB.

Always wear an anti-static wrist strap when you touch any circuit board. For details, refer to

Static Discharge Damage Prevention.

System Grounding Requirements

A good grounding system is the basis for the stable and reliable operation of switches. It is the

chief condition to prevent lightning stroke and resist interference. Please carefully check the

grounding conditions on the installation site according to the grounding requirements, and

perform grounding properly as needed. For details, refer to System Grounding Requirements.

Power Requirements

AC input voltage: 90 VAC–264 VAC, 47 Hz–63 Hz

AC input power: no less than 2000 W

DC input voltage: –36 VDC to –72 VDC

DC input power: no less than 2000 W

Requirements of Installation Tools

Installing the Switch

Place the switch on the reserved place.

If you plan to mount RG-S8606/S8606 B/S8610/S8614 in a cabinet, you must verify that the

cabinet meets the following conditions:

Install the switch in an open cabinet. If you install the switch inside a closed cabinet, please

make sure that the cabinet has a good ventilation system.

Make sure that the cabinet is firm enough to bear the weight of RG-S8606/S8606 B

/S8610/S8614 and its installation accessories.

Make sure that the dimensions of the cabinet spare certain space for the installation of the

front, rear, left and right panels of RG-S8606/S8606 B/S8610/S8614 for the sake of heat

dissipation.

The cabinet should be properly grounded.

Ventilation Requirements

Following figure shows the ventilation requirements of RG-S8606/S8606 B/S8610. You must

ensure that sufficient spacing is reserved at the ventilation openings to ensure the normal

working of ventilation. After various cables have been connected, they should be arranged into

bundles or placed on the cabling rack, to avoid blocking the air inlets.

For RG-S8606/S8606 B/S8610/S8614 ventilation, refer to the following Figure 3-1, 3-2, 3-3 and

3-4.
