1 Measuring the 60 V AC Output Voltage

NOTE

lIf the MA5833 needs to transmit power to a lower-layer device, check the 60 V power pass-through

indicator to identify whether the 60 V output power supply is available. The indicator is on

when power is transmitted through a port.

lCheck the 12 V DC and 34 V DC power supply indicator .The indicator is on when the power

supply is within the specified range.

lAlternatively, test whether the voltage on the test point of the 12 V DC and 34 V DC power

supply meets requirements. To do so, adjust the multimeter for the DC voltage test, connect the

black probe of the multimeter to the metal place on the front panel, and connect the red probe to the

test point of the 12 V DC and 34 V DC power supply.

2 Checking Upstream Optical Port Optical

Power

lWhen measuring upstream optical port optical power, do not stand close to or look into the

optical port without eye protection.

lThe Rx optical power of the upstream optical port on the MA5833 must be within the Rx

optical power range. Otherwise, the optical module will be damaged (excessively high Rx

optical power) or cannot receive signals properly (excessively low Rx optical power).

lWhen the receive optical power is close to the critical value, the MA5833 can be

functional for a short period of time. To ensure that the MA5833 is functional for a long

period of time, adjust the receive optical power.

Step 1 Set the wavelength of an optical power meter to 1490 nm and use it to measure the output

power on optical fibers.

Step 2 If the test result exceeds the preceding range, use an optical attenuator on the OLT side to

decrease the input optical power of the MA5833.

Step 3 Measure and verify that the input optical power of the MA5833 is within the supported range.

Hardware Commissioning Guide 2 Checking Upstream Optical Port Optical Power

Upstream Mode Range of the Rx Optical Module

GPON -8 dBm to -27 dBm

10G GPON -8 dBm to -28 dBm

GE -3 dBm to -19.5 dBm

10GE -1 dBm to -11.1 dBm

lRanges of the Rx optical power of the upstream port may be different according to

optical modules of different types used in the same upstream direction. Specifications of

the actual optical module prevail.

lIf the test result exceeds the upper limit of the Rx optical power, optical attenuator can be

added on the ONU side to reduce the input optical power of the MA5833.

3 Commissioning the Optical Power of the

Optical Receiver

NOTE

The following introduces how to use a multimeter to measure the optical power. You can also use an

optical power meter to measure the optical power of the optical receiver.

Step 1 Adjust the multimeter for the DC voltage test. Connect the black probe of the multimeter to

the screw on the front panel and connect the red probe to the optical power test point of the

optical receiver to measure the DC voltage. Obtain the optical power from the following table

based on the measured voltage.

Figure 3-1

Step 2 The input optical power ranges from -8 dBm to 3 dBm.

lIf the input optical power is greater than 0 dBm, add a fixed optical attenuator to

decrease the receive optical power of the optical receiver.

lIf the input optical power is less than -6 dBm, check the output optical power of the

optical transmitter and whether the physical connection between the optical transmitter

and optical receiver is functional.
