ENGINE-DRIVEN WELDING MACHINES FOR MMA WELDING
DESIGNED FOR INDUSTRIAL AND PROFESSIONAL USE.
The term “engine-driven welding machine” will be used in the
following text.
1.GENERALSAFETYRULES
- Alwayschecktheenginebeforeusingit(seetheproduction
manualoftheinternalcombustionengine).
- Donotplaceammableobjectsneartheengineandkeepthe
engine-drivenweldingmachineatleast1metrefrombuildings
andotherequipment.
- Donotusetheengine-drivenweldingmachineinenvironments
where the danger of explosion and/or re exists, in closed
areas,orinthepresenceofammableand/orexplosivegases,
powders,acidsandelements.
- Fueltheengineinawellventilatedareaandwiththeengine
switchedoff.Petrolishighlyammableandcanexplode.
- Donotllthepetroltanktoomuch.Fuelmustnotremainin
thetankneck.Makesurethecapiswellclosed.
- Iffuelisspilledoutsidethetank,cleanthespillwellandallow
thevapourstodispersebeforeswitchingontheengine.
- Donotsmokein,anddonotbringnakedamesinto,thearea
where the engine is generally lled with fuel, or where the
petrolisstored.
- Donottouchtheenginewhenitishot.Toavoidseriousburns
orre,allowtheenginetocoolbeforemovingorstoringthe
engine-drivenweldingmachine.
- The exhaust gases contain carbon dioxide, which is an
odourless,clearandverytoxicgasthatMUSTNOTbeinhaled.
Do not use the engine-driven welding machine in closed
areas.
- Donotleantheengine-drivenweldingmachinemorethan10°
fromitsverticalpositiontopreventfuelbeingspilledfromthe
tank.
- When it is on, the engine-driven welding machine heats up
and can cause burns and injuries, so keep children and
animalsdistantfromit.
- Learn how to switch off the engine quickly and use all the
controls.Neverentrusttheengine-drivenweldingmachineto
peoplewhoarenotsuitablyprepared.
REGULATIONSFORELECTRICSAFETY
- CONNECTTHEMACHINETOANEARTHPEG
- Electricity is potentially dangerous and, unless used
correctly,produceselectricshocksorelectrocution.Thiscan
causeseriousinjuryordeath,andresandfaultsinelectric
equipment.Keepchildren,unauthorisedpeopleandanimals
atadistancefromtheengine-drivenweldingmachine.
- Connecting the machine and supplying electricity to the
powerlineofabuildingisstrictlyforbiddenanddangerous.
- Donotusethemachineindamporwetconditionsorinthe
rain.
- Donotusecableswithworninsulationandkeepthemdistant
fromthehotpartsofthemachine.
GENERALSAFETYRULESFORARCWELDING
Theoperatormustreceivefullinstructionsregardingsafeuse
oftheweldingmachineandmustbeinformedoftherisksonarc
welding procedures, related safety measures and emergency
procedures.
(RefertoDirective“EN60974-9:Apparatusforarcwelding.Part
9:Installationanduse”).
- Donotcomeintodirectcontactwiththeweldingcircuit;the
open circuit voltage supplied by the engine-driven welding
machinecanbedangerousincertainconditions.
- The welding cables must be connected and the verication
operationsandrepairsmustbecarriedoutwiththeengine-
drivenweldingmachineswitchedoff.
- Switchofftheengine-drivenweldingmachinebeforereplacing
thewornpartsofthetorch.
- Donotusetheengine-drivenweldingmachineindamporwet
conditionsorintherain.
- Donotusecableswithdeterioratedinsulationorwithloose
connections.
- Donotweldcontainers,receptaclesorpipingthatcontainor
havecontainedammableliquidsorgases.
- Do not work on materials that have been cleaned with
chlorinatedsolvents,ornearthesesubstances.
- Donotweldpressurisedcontainers.
- Removeallammablesubstances(e.g.wood,paper,ragsetc.)
fromtheworkingarea.
- Makesurethereisasuitableairexchangeormeanssuitable
for removing the welding smoke near the arc; a systematic
approach for evaluating the welding smoke exposure limits
according to composition, concentration and exposure
durationisnecessary.
- Keepthebottle(ifused)distantfromheatsources,including
thesun’srays.
- Makesurethereisadequateelectricalinsulationwithrespect
totheelectrode,theworkpieceandany(accessible)earthed
metalpartsinthevicinity.
This can usually be achieved by wearing special gloves,
shoes, head coverings and clothing made for this purpose
andbyusinginsulatingplatformsormats.
- Alwaysprotecteyeswithsuitableadiactinicglassttedonto
masksorhelmets.
Usetherelativeprotectivere-retardantclothing,anddonot
exposetheskintotheultravioletandinfraredraysproduced
bythearc.Peoplewhoareworkingnearthearcmustalsobe
protectedusingnon-reectivescreensorcurtains.
- Noiselevel:If particularlyintensiveweldingoperations lead
to a daily personal noise exposure (LEP,d) of 85dB(A) or
more, the use of suitable personal protection equipment is
obligatory.
- Thepassageoftheweldingcurrentcreateselectromagnetic
elds(EMF)aroundtheweldingcircuit.
The electromagnetic elds can interfere with some medical
devices(e.g.Pacemaker,breathingsystems,metalprostheses,
etc.).
Suitableprotectivemeasuresforthosewhousethesedevices
mustbetaken.As anexample,prohibitaccess totheengine-
drivenweldingmachineusearea.
This engine-driven welding machine satises the product
technicalstandardsforexclusiveuseinindustrialenvironments
for professional purposes. Compliance with the basic limits
regardinghumanexposuretoelectromagneticeldscannotbe
guaranteedinadomesticenvironment.
Thefollowingproceduresmustbefollowedinordertoreduce
exposuretoelectromagneticelds:
