Product Overview
The RN172 WiFi data transmission device
delivers the data from the UA sensor products
to a remote receiver through the WiFi. The
remote receiver refers to the PCs where the
Tapaculo software is installed, a cloud
monitoring service (Tapaculo®365), or the web
server developed by the user.
The RN172 device is equipped with a display on
the front to show the data, and with a buzzer to
sound the alarm when the limit value is
exceeded. The system also provides a cloud
monitoring service, one of the advanced features
of the system (Tapaculo®365). Using this service,
it is possible to send an emergency
SMS/telephone alarm or schedule to send e-mail
reports.

Connecting when using WiFi
Access to RN172 on a smartphone
Step 1
Turn on the power without connecting the USB
to see “SOFT AP”displayed on the screen. Here,
change the WiFi connection to an AP whose
SSID is "RN172_XXXX."
Step 2
After connecting the RN172 unit to the WiFi,
access 192.168.1.3 through the web browser.
Then access RN172 through your mobile
phone.
Step 3
Press the WiFi Scan button to search for a WiFi
AP nearby.
Step 4
Select the SSID of the AP to be used by the RN172
in the future. Then input the password and save.
The display of the RN172 will show “SAVE DONE,”
and the saving is completed. The password will not

Establishing a regular connection after setting
the WiFi
How to establish a connection when changing
the internal settings
After completing the WiFi setting, connect the UA
product, which is a USB sensor, along with the DC
power adapter. Then the basic function of the
RN172 (data transmission) will be activated.
To make changes in the internal settings of the
RN172, connect the USB cable to the PC with a 1:1
arrangement, without a power source. Launch the
RADIONODE terminal SW on the PC. When the
background color is changed to green, input
“radionode114”to access the configuration screen.

4. How to Operate
4.1 Data logging by the local PC
RN172 is a suitable product for establishing an integrated monitoring server through the wireless
internet. It is used to transmit the data gathered by UA10, UA11, etc. The image above is an example of a
configuration of the monitoring server through the intranet, without being connected to the internet. It
may automatically be assigned an IP or the user may manually assign a fixed IP to it. The Tapaculo Lite
software provided as a part of the package is used to detect a device and to make requests for the data
to the device. The data received from the device is saved in the DB.
4.2 Data logging in a remote location
Via the internet, the product can be used to gather information from other devices located in a remote
place. Each RN172 device will do with a private IP from the internet router. No separate public IP is
necessary. Tapaculo365.com supports data gathering. It provides free accounts, with which you can use up
to 20 data channels. The registration of the device is done by inputting the MAC address indicated on the
side of the RN172 unit.

5.Console Menu
Using the USB cable, you can access the configuration menu through the PC. While the RN172 is not
powered on, use the USB cable to connect the RN172 unit to a PC. When power is supplied through the
USB cable, the device automatically operates in the reconfiguration console mode. Then, you can see a
new COM port created on the PC.
When the RADIONOTE terminal software is launched in the PC, it automatically searches for a COM port
and connects to it. When it is connected to a COM port, the background will turn green.
Also, you can use a Telnet terminal to access the same console menu. As the system is set to the DHCP
mode by default, you can view the IP address on the LED display when the system is powered up. When
establishing a connection with Telnet, enter the “ATSCON”command to jump to the console menu screen.
If there is no input made for five minutes, the connection will automatically be disengaged.

©2016 DEKIST Co., Ltd. Rev. 1.6
Use the terminal software to access the COM port, or use Telnet to input “radionode114.”Then, you can
access the configuration console menu as shown here.
