Ironingtips
• Garments with embroidery, sequins, lace, etc., should be ironed on thelowest
temperature setting.
• For textiles made of mixed fibres (e.g. 40% cotton/60% synthetic fibre), choose
thetemperature setting appropriate for thefibre with thelowest recommended
ironing temperature.
• If you are not sure what thematerial is made of, start by ironing aninconspicuous
part of thegarment on thelowest temperature setting and increase thetemperature
gradually.
• Never iron agarment which has sweat stains or other discolouration, theheat will
iron thestain into thefabric and it will be very difficult to remove.
• Ironing silk, wool and synthetic fibres can cause shiny patches to be formed.
Toprevent this, iron such fabrics on thereverseside.
• Velvet can also form shiny patches when ironed. Ironin thedirection of thepile/nap
to avoid such damage. Avoidpressing theiron down onto thefabric.
• Washing more clothes at thesame time causes more wrinkles toform.
• Higher speed spin cycles also causes more wrinkles toform.
• Many types of fabric are easier to iron before they are completelydry. Silk, for
example should always be steam-ironed.
