STK511

Introduction

yUHF radio covers 315, 434, 868 and 915 MHz

ySupports “intelligent” receiver ICs

yAtmel reference design receiver uses AVR

in STK500

yAtmel reference design transmitter uses ATtiny13

¾Supports 8-pin TSSOP PLL transmitters ICs

¾ASK or FSK transmission is pushbutton selectable

yReceiver Interface Board

¾Supports stand-alone receiver operation

¾Quickly programs configuration registers

OPMODE

LIMIT

¾Doubles as an expansion card for STK500

Enables quick prototype development

Sample software for STK500 included

ySTK511 Receiver Interface Board (IFB)

yRF Receiver Application Board (RAB) – one of the following:

¾T5743 (315/433.92 MHz)

¾T5760 (868 MHz)

¾T5761 (915 MHz)

yRF Transmitter Application Board (TAB) – one of the following:

¾Tiny13 + T5750 (868/915MHz)

¾Tiny13 + T5753 (315MHz)

¾Tiny13 + T5754 (433.92MHz)

yCD containing sample software and related documents

yAntenna

¾Transmitter uses integrated PCB trace

¾Receiver uses external monopole whip

STK511

Stand-alone Operation

yChange receiver’s settings without writing software

¾DIP switches set configuration register values

¾Embedded firmware (ATmega8515) programs registers

yExample: Change modulation to ASK

¾Set DATA selector switch on IFB to STK511

¾Set OPMODE register DIP switch # 5 to “ON” position

¾Verify “Mod” LED is illuminated (indicating ASK)

¾Press “CONFIGURE” button to program registers

18-Mrz-05 8

STK511

Operation with STK500

ySTK511 Interface Board is an STK500 expansion card

¾Still permits DIP switch programming of configuration registers

¾Connects receiver signals to STK500

ySTK500 Capabilities

¾Allows user to select any AVR

®for system development

¾Creates environment for easy prototyping

¾Speeds up concept verification

¾Enables functional demos using integral LEDs and switches

18-Mrz-05 9

STK511

Transmitter

yAtmel ATtiny13 AVR

controls T575x transmitter

yCalibrated internal RC oscillator minimizes external parts

yProgrammable using exposed 6-pin ISP header

yMulti function I/O (5 places)

¾Button input

¾LED driver

¾A/D converter

¾RF transmission control

yASK or FSK RF modulation

yFSK modulation by “pulling” crystal load

¾Through I/O port

¾Through external FET

STK511

General Setup

yStand-alone Operation (RAB to IFB Assembly)

¾Align signal pins of RAB near DIP switches on IFB

¾Align “+” and “GND” test points of RAB near DATA

switch on IFB

¾Insert RAB into 12-pin header connectors on IFB

¾Apply +5V supply to “+” and “GND” test points of RAB

yOperation with STK500 (RAB/IFB Assembly to STK500)

¾Align EXPAND0 and EXPAND1 pin headers of IFB & STK500

¾Insert IFB into STK500 (don’t pinch ribbon cables!)

¾Use VTARGET of STK500 sourced through EXPAND0/1
