Aim

at the

subject,

then change

your

position,

moving

closer

away

the

until the image

• Notes on close-up photographyand

reproduction

work

Camera shake

This lens provides such exceptionally high image

magnification

that

even the slightest

movement

during

shooting can cause the image

blur. Therefore, the

use

tripod and acable release or remote cord

highly

recommended

prevent the effects

camera

shake.

Close working distance

the

high reproduction ratios used in close-up shooting,

the

depth

field

very shallow. To ensure sufficient

depth

field, stop

down

the

lens, extend

the

exposure time, and

carefully position

the

camera

that

the

most

important

portion

the

subject

parallel

the

surface

the

image

sensor

ensure sharp focus.

• Exposure factor

The

f-number

a lens indicates brightness

the

image

formed by the lens set at "infinity" shooting distance. The

greater

the

reproduction ratio,

the

more image brightness

decreases. The actual brightness

the

image

called

the

"effective f-number," and

the

exposure compensation value

for the change

the

effective

f-number

called

the

"exposure factor."

• Effective

f-number

variation (P.

148)

With this lens,

the

greater

the

reproduction ratio (the shorter

the shooting distance),

the

brightness

the

image

projected

onto

the

image sensor decreases and

the

effective

f-number

increases (the

amount

light

passing

through

the

lens' aperture decreases). This variation

automatically compensated for by

the

camera's exposure

meter,

the

user can determine exposure or operate

TIL

flash shooting

without

having

consider

the

exposure

factor.

The f-number displayed in

the

camera's

LCD

panel or

viewfinder

the

value automatically compensated.

• Vibration reduction mode (VRII)

Setting

the

vibration reduction ON/OFF switch

ON:

The effects

camera shake

are

reduced

while

the

shutter- release

button

pressed

halfway and also at the instant the shutter

released. Because vibration

reduced

the viewfinder, auto/manual focusing and

exact framing

the

subject

are

easier.

OFF:The

effects

camera shake

are

not

reduced.

Notes on using vibration reduction

•

enabling vibration reduction

(VR),

slower shutter speeds

(approximately four stops*) can be used when shooting

distance

between

and

2.6

m (the reproduction ratio

from

1/30x). The higherthe reproduction ratio from 1I

30x

is,

the

effects

vibration reduction will

decrease gradually. (*Based on results achieved underNikon

measurement conditions.The effects

vibration reduction

may vary according

shooting conditions and

use.)

• After pressing the shutter-release

button

halfway, wait until

the image in the viewfinder stabilizes before pressing

the

shutter-release

button

the

rest

the way down.

• Due

the characteristics

the vibration reduction

mechanism,

the

image in the viewfinder may be blurred

after the shutter

released. This

not

a malfunction.

• Ifthe camera

arc,

compensation for

camera shake in the panning direction

For

example, only

the

effects

vertical camera shake
