Software alidation and
erification
MTS software is developed using established quality pra ti es in a ordan e
with the requirements detailed in the ISO 9001 standards. Be ause MTS-
authored software is delivered in binary format, it is not user a essible. This
software will not hange over time. Many releases are written to be ba kwards
ompatible, reating another form of verifi ation.
The status and validity of MTS’ operating software is also he ked during
system verifi ation and routine alibration of MTS hardware. These ontrolled
alibration pro esses ompare the final test results after statisti al analysis
against the predi ted response of the alibration standards. With these established
methods, MTS assures its ustomers that MTS produ ts meet MTS’ exa ting
quality standards when initially installed and will ontinue to perform as intended
over time.

Introduction
MTS Ex eed Ele trome hani al Material Test Systems are designed to operate in
a laboratory or light industry environment. To get the maximum intended use of
the system, it is re ommended that areful onsideration be given to planning its
installation. This in ludes:
•The types of testing that will be performed.
•The building fa ilities requirements for power, ooling water, air
onditioning, eiling height, floor loading, and so on.
•Contra t servi es, su h as riggers and moving equipment, to transport the
system omponents within the fa ility.
•Support personnel that might be required during installation of the system.
In addition to the test system requirements, ea h test appli ation also has its own
requirements. Therefore, it is re ommended that overall planning be onsidered
as early as possible. Preparation for and setup of the major system omponents
are your responsibility. This guide will help answer most of your questions about
the physi al hara teristi s and requirements of your system.

This se tion details the responsibilities of both the ustomer and MTS to ensure
that the proposed testing area is suitable for the installation and operation of the
test system.

Customer’s Responsibilities
It is the ustomer’s responsibility to ensure that all required support servi es are
available, and that all ne essary he ks are made prior to installing the test
system.These servi es and he ks are des ribed below.
Site Preparation
Proper site preparation is imperative so that the test system operates in
a ordan e with its spe ifi ations and provides a urate test results. The
ustomer must ensure that the site requirements are satisfied prior to s heduling
the installation appointment.
Handling and Transporting
Unless spe ifi ally arranged otherwise, it is the ustomer’s responsibility to
arrange the off-loading, unpa king and moving of the test system to the final site
lo ation. For details on handling and transporting your system to its final
lo ation, see “Lift and Move Instru tions” on page 29.
Upon spe ial arrangements, an MTS servi e engineer an supervise the off-
loading and transportation of the load frame to its final site. Conta t the MTS
Servi e department or your lo al MTS offi e for additional information on this
servi e.
It is the ustomer’s responsibility to provide slings and hoist rings. Slings and
hoist rings must onform to lo al odes and regulations and be sized orre tly to
support the weight of the load frame. Weights and thread sizes are provided in
this manual.
Insurance and Safety
Under MTS’ standard ontra t, the shipping terms are Ex-Works (or FOB
Fa tory), meaning ownership and liability for the test system transfers to the
ustomer at MTS’ loading do k. Unless other shipping terms are spe ified in a
pur hase order, whi h MTS does not dispute, the Ex-Works shipping terms
apply. Under these terms, the ustomer is responsible for se uring the appli able
transit insuran e on the shipment and arranging safe transport to the final
destination. Arrangements an be made through MTS to se ure insuran e
overage and shipping, at the ustomer’s expense.
When transporting a load frame within your own premises, you are responsible
for its safe transport. Upon spe ial arrangements, an MTS servi e engineer an
supervise the transportation to the load frame’s final site. Conta t the MTS
Servi e department or your lo al MTS offi e for additional information on this
servi e.

MTS’ Responsibilities
MTS’ standard ontra t requires MTS to provide the ne essary servi es to ensure
that your test system operates a urately. These servi es are des ribed below.
Additional servi es and equipment may be negotiated with MTS, but these
additional servi es must be mutually agreed upon and spe ifi ally des ribed in
your pur hase order.
Insurance
Under MTS’ standard ontra t, the shipping terms are Ex-Works (or FOB
Fa tory), meaning ownership and liability for the test system transfers to the
ustomer at MTS’s loading do k. Unless other shipping terms are spe ified in a
pur hase order, whi h MTS does not dispute, the Ex-Works shipping terms
apply. Under these terms, MTS is responsible for insuran e overage while the
test system is in the fa tory until it rea hes the loading do k for shipping.
Installation
When the site lo ation is prepared and all the omponents are on site, MTS is
responsible for the omplete installation of the load frame, its omponents, and
any additional a essories that may have been pur hased. The ustomer must not
make any attempt to install the load frame without an MTS servi e representative
present.
Initial Operation
On e the installation is omplete, MTS performs an initial operation of the load
frame and a alibration he k to ensure that it is working properly and measuring
a urately. MTS also performs a ustomer demonstration that briefly des ribes
how to operate the system.
Documentation
MTS provides all the do umentation required to operate the system, in luding
manuals for the load frame and any required software appli ations.
Additional opies are available and an be ordered through the MTS Sales
department.
