

Using The Device The First Time



●You have been asked to set up the device before delivering it to your learner.

●You will need to charge the device for several hours before attempting to set

it up.

●Connect the device to the internet.

●You will be prompted to set up a Google account. Note - You may choose to

support the learner to set up a Google account themself at a later time.

●You will be prompted to set up a screen lock. Selecting the ‘pattern’ lock

option may be easiest for your learners.

●There will be terms and conditions to accept.



Setting up the Mifi



●Open the back cover of the unit

●Slide the SIM card lock back and insert the SIM card with the chip facing

downwards. Slide the lock back over the SIM card.

●Insert the battery

●Replace the back cover

●Press and hold the power button until the lights appear on the front

indicators

●Note - the charging cable does not come with its own plug. The cable is

compatible with the Lenovo TabE10 plug. You will need to charge either the

tablet or the Mi-Fi device at separate times.

●The device is not locked to a mobile network. This means it can be topped up

with any chosen network once the preloaded data has been used.

●Connect the device to the MiFi. You should do this by selecting the

3MobileWifi in the ‘Network and Internet’ settings and entering the network

key as printed on the back of the Mifi device under the back cover. Ensure

the connection is working properly before giving the device to the recipient.



Things to Note



●The screen will automatically orientate to the position in which you hold the

device.

●It is possible to set up multiple accounts on the device. This allows different

users to have separate passwords and homescreens.

●To close an app, swipe the top or bottom of the screen. The square will

appear on the bottom right which you can use to close any open apps. The

circle will return you to the home screen without fully closing the app.

●The blue card slot on the side of the device, is opened with a fingernail. It

does not open by pressing.

●Google Meet / Hangouts is already available on the device. A phone number

must be provided to use it.



Links, Apps and Documents to Add to the Homescreen



Downloading an app from the play store will automatically create a link to the app

on the homescreen. You can also add web page links to the homescreen. To do this,

navigate to the webpage you want to add, tap the three dots in the right hand

corner and select ‘add to homescreen’. Selecting ‘add automatically’ will create a

link on the homescreen.



You must add the following to the home screen:

●‘Read Me’ file (edited appropriately to include your correct details)

●Learn My Way (bookmark or add shortcuts to useful topics/courses, for

example Online Safety or Improving Health Online)

●The Online Safety Guide

●NHS.UK staying safe at home guidance

●An appropriate video calling app



You may consider adding additional apps and documents. These could include:

●Make It Click (online training resources)

●Library online resources

●YouTube

●Social media apps

●Supermarket home delivery service

●Local council services



Child User Account



The device has children's account settings. An account can be set up for each

individual child that is in a household. The account helps parents to control

children's screen time and the content they access. Usage time per session and

break times between sessions can be set up. The child account will only display

child friendly apps. A parental control password can be set. To set up a child’s
