READ THIS BEFORE INSTALLING 3 wire BNC monitors:

Please follow these simple instructions, to assure a trouble free monitor installation:

Your HP 1097x (Hitachi HM-4419D) monitor like most high-end monitors, requires a

high quality cable to attach to your computer system. This cable is called a BNC

(Bayonet Nut Connect) cable.

Most standard BNC cables have 5 single color-coded wires on the monitor’s end,

usually marked as: R (Red), G (Green), B (Blue), H (Horizontal) and V (Vertical).

However, your HP 1097x (Hitachi HM-4419D) monitor requires only 3 color inputs

(Red, Green and Blue, as shown in below illustration) to operate, properly.

If the cable that is supplied with your monitor has 5 individual color-coded wires on the

monitor’s end, please connect ONLY the wires that are marked as R, G and B and

leave the H and V wires, unattached. The cable’s color codes always match the color

for each video input connector, on the monitor’s back.

If your are using the monitor with a PC system:

If a PC video card is supplied with your HP 1097x (Hitachi HM-4419D) monitor, make

sure that the “Sync-On-Green” Jumper (Usually identifiable by a Red Colored Plastic

Jumper on the card) is in Engaged position, as shown in figure 2, below.

READ THIS BEFORE INSTALLING 5 wire BNC monitors:

Your Hitachi HM-4419D monitor like most high-end monitors, requires a high quality

cable to attach to your computer system. This cable is called a BNC (Bayonet Nut

Connect) cable.

Most standard BNC cables have 5 single color-coded wires on the monitor’s end,

usually marked as: R (Red), G (Green), B (Blue), H (Horizontal) and V (Vertical). Your

Hitachi HM-4419D monitor requires all 5 BNC inputs (Red, Green, Blue, H and V as

shown in below illustration) to be connected, for the best performance result.

The cable that is supplied with your monitor has 5 individual color-coded wires on the

monitor’s end, please connect all 5 wires to the back of the monitor. The cable’s

wires are usually marked with letters, representing the matching hook up on the back

of the monitor. Sometimes the BNC cable is not marked for H and V at all or they are

marked incorrectly. In this case please try reversing the H and V cables to see if you

get the correct picture on the screen.

If your are using the monitor with a PC system:

If a PC video card is supplied with your Hitachi HM-4419D monitor, make sure that the

“Sync-On-Green” Jumper (Usually identifiable by a Red Colored Plastic Jumper on

the card) is in Removed position, as shown in figure 1, below.

4. Adjusting the Monitor

3. HP1097C / HITACHI 4419D’s Back Panel

Some ma

have 3 BNC INPUTS on the back onl

ttach the 5 video cable:

R, G, B, H & V plugs in

all 5 connectors in the

back of the monitor, as

follows:

• Red wire to “R”

• Green wire to “G”

• Blue Wire to B

• Wire marked as H to

“H/HV”

• Wire marked as V to

“V”

Press the monitor power switch (see illustration below) to ON, and adjust the monitor controls.

1 The brightness control adjusts the brightness of the display

2 The contrast control adjusts the light-to-dark and dark-to-light contrast of the display.

3 The degauss button manually demagnetizes the monitor. Degaussing disperses any

accumulated magnetic charge from the face of the monitor. Magnetic disturbances

such as picture distortion or color impurity can be caused by either moving the monitor

from one location to another or swiveling the monitor on its base. The monitor is

automatically degaussed every time it is powered on.

4 The power ON/OFF button powers the monitor on or off.

5 The power-on LED, when lit indicates that the monitor power is on.

Ambient light levels vary from room to room, requiring different monitor brightness levels. To

adjust the monitor to the room ambient lighting conditions, adjust the brightness and contrast

controls as follows:

• Turn both brightness and contrast controls clockwise as far as possible.

• Reduce brightness by turning brightness control counterclockwise until text characters

sharpen.

• Adjust contrast control counterclockwise until you reach a comfortable viewing level.

5. Adjusting the screen

If experiencing screen distortions and you have made sure that they are not caused

because of the incorrect cable installation or sync-on-green jumper settings for the PC

video card. Or if you need to adjust the screen’s height and width for your Hitachi HM-

4419D monitor, please locate the adjustment buttons as shown below, at the lower

end portion of the monitor’s back panel (underneath the BNC connectors) and adjust

them according to the following instructions:

(Please notice that to adjust the controls, you’ll need to use a small Philips

screwdriver.

WARNING: The adjustment controls are very delicate and may break, if excessive

force is used. Please use extreme caution when turning the controls, as a broken

control may disable your monitor and requires the unit to be sent back to repair shop

for necessary repairs.

HEIGHT or Vertical size adjustment control:

This is your vertical height adjustment. You need to center the

screen vertically first to get this correct. In some cases the

companion video card will show a bigger size for 640x480 and

1280x1024 resolutions than the 1024x768. In this case if you want to be able to see

most resolutions completely, adjust the monitor for 1280x1024, so that 640x480 will fill

up the screen too.

V-CENT or Vertical center adjustment control:

This control will move the screen up or down (vertical center). In

some cases the companion video card will show a bigger size for

640x480 and 1280x1024 resolutions than the 1024x768. In this

case if you want to be able to see most resolutions completely, adjust the monitor for

1280x1024, so that 640x480 will fill up the screen too.

H-HOLD or Horizontal frequency (kHz) adjustment control:

This needs to be adjusted if you get a scramble picture. Scramble

picture indicates a wrong Horizontal frequency is getting to the

monitor. Turn this control very slowly until you get a stable picture.

This process will effect all resolutions and also Horizontal Positioning.

WIDTH or Horizontal Size adjustment control:

This is the monitor’s width size adjustment, you need to center the

screen horizontally first before making this adjustment. Sometimes

increasing the Horizontal size to the limits may cause the monitor

to behave abnormal or the screen may become shaky. Normally leave about 1/8 of

inch of blank border on each side of the screen, for the best result. This is needed for

the proper monitor timing adjustment.

SPCC (Side Pin Control) or Screen geometry balance control:

Do not touch this control, unless the screen is not straight from the

sides.

OTHER ADJUSTMENTS:

There is also a Horizontal Phase (centering) adjustment inside the cover. To reach

this adjustment you need to remove 2 screws on the back and push the cover

backward.

Color Adjustments for foreground and background of each individual color gun (RGB )

are located on the back panel next to each color BNC input.

Monitor SPECIFICATION:

Vertical refresh rate : 60-85 Hz

Horizontal Scan rate: 68- 80 KHz (Kilo Hetrz). Default set to 72Khz

Horizontal scan rate is adjusted by H.Hold as mentioned above.

Maximum Resolution: 1600x1200

Monitor Adjusted for: 1024x768

There is no vertical hold adjustment on this monitor.

If the monitor rolls vertically on some resolutions, you have to adjust the video card's

refresh rate to be adjusted near 80 Hz (not 85 Hz). In this case you need to make sure

that you have a Video card with a 7272 or 1097 specification (not 7285, 7285 spec

may roll on some Hitachi monitors)

Replacement video cards for this monitor can be obtained from: www.mirage-mmc.com
