Adjusting the T-Latch on the

Blodgett XCEL-50EC Oven for KFC

Tools Supplied:

Returning the T-Latch to Factory Settings

Use this procedure when installing a new gasket

Failure to follow the steps below may

result in damage to the oven and/or door

handle.

When installing a NEW door gasket,

use the C-shaped gauge to set the T-latch back

to the original factory setting. The T-latch must

be returned to the factory setting because if the

door seal is too tight the gasket may be

damaged by over-compression. If the door seal

is too loose, the oven may leak excessively

during the clean cycle and the door switch may

not operate properly.

1. With the door open, place the C-shaped

adjustment gauge over the T-latch. See

Figure 1a. Make sure the legs of the gauge

are touching the face of the oven.

2. If the end of the latch sits in the notch and

hits the edge of the notch when the gauge is

slid up or down, it is properly adjusted.

Figure 1a and 1b

3. The door gasket on the Blodgett XCEL-50EC

Grilled Chicken oven may shrink slightly as it

ages. Therefore, it may be necessary to adjust

the T-latch for the door handle to reduce

leakage during the clean cycle and extend the

life of your gasket. Use the following procedure

to adjust the T-latch on the XCEL-50EC oven.

Adjusting the T-Latch

Use this procedure as the gasket changes over

time.

Figure 2

1. The T-latch is held in place by a set screw

and a jam nut. Using a 13mm wrench,

loosen the jam nut by turning to the left or

counter-clockwise. See Figure 3.

Figure 3

Using a 3/32” Allen wrench, loosen the set

screw on top of the T-latch base. Turn the

set screw 4 full turns.

Figure 4

3. The T-latch has a flat side. See Figure 5. Turn

the T-latch ½ of full turn, or 180°, clockwise to

tighten the door seal. NOTE: When a turn is

completed the flat side of the T-latch must be

facing up, and another one down.

Figure 5

4. Use an Allen wrench to tighten the set screw on

the top of the base.

5. Use a 13mm wrench to tighten the jam nut.

6. Only change ½ of full turn, or 180°, at a time

with

the maximum turns inward being

two

. Test the oven through a clean cycle. If over

time, the door leaks excessively ( an amount

more than what can be contained in the gutter )

during the clean cycle, repeat steps 1-6 to

readjust the T-latch.

Do not adjust the T-

latch in more than two full turns (four ½

turn adjustments) or damage to the door

handle may occur.

Use the C-shaped gauge

to verify if the T-latch is too short. See Figure 6.

When the T-latch has been adjusted in to the

point where it no longer reaches the bump on

the C-gauge, it is time to replace the gasket.

See Figure 6.
