Chapter 1. Getting Started
Introduction
Thanks for choosing KN800 Mainboard. It is based on AMD®GeodeTM LX800 Northbridge
chipset and AMD®GeodeTM CS5536 Southbridge chipset. In addition, it also supports
integrated AMD®GeodeTM LX800 Graphics Engine for onboard graphics feature. It supports
AMD®GeodeTM LX800 embedded processor with FSB (Front Side Bus) frequencies of 500
MHz.
The KN800 provides one DDR SO-DIMM socket which allows you to install 200-pin DDR 400
SO-DIMM. It supports a total memory capacity of 1 GB.
This mainboard provides one IDE connector for IDE hard drives, and one Mini IDE connector
for Mini IDE hard drives supporting Ultra ATA 133/100/66/33. In addition, one standard Mini
PCI slot for use with standard Mini PCI expansion cards is also allowed.
The KN800 provides one VGA (=D-Sub) connector (optional) and two USB 2.0/ 1.1 ports on
the back panel for use. Moreover, several headers are also available on the mainboard for two
COM Port headers (optional), one VGA external display (CN8) header (optional), and eight
GPIO (CN3 & CN2) headers (optional), and two USB 2.0 / 1.1 headers that can be connected
with cables for compliant devices. There are maximal four USB2.0/ 1.1 ports which can be set
up on this mainboard.
This mainboard also comes with two onboard 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet LAN chips
(RTL8110SC) (one is optional). There are two LAN ports on the back panel of your case that
you can directly plug into Internet cables.
The onboard AC’ 97 Audio CODEC (ALC655) supports high quality performance 2-channel
audio play.
The KN800 comes with the Silicon®Image chip supporting four SATA connectors (optional)
which provide up to 1.5 Gbps data transfer rates and also support RAID 0/ 1/ 0+1 mode <See
Appendix I>.
