Wine Guardian Split System
This document is a pictorial guide for installing the Wine Guardian
Split system. It is not intended to replace the detailed instructions
found in the Installation, Operation and Maintenance (IOM)
manual, which includes important safety messages all installers
and owners should follow for safe and optimal performance of the
system.
Complete IOM manuals can be found on the Resources and
Manuals page of wineguardian.com. If you have additional

1. Unpackage
A. Remove unit from box. Check for any signs of
concealed damage, and that all optional equipment
has been provided. Contact Air Innovations
immediately if components are missing or/if unit has
been damaged in shipping.
B. Shipment includes:
- One (1) fan-coil unit
- One (1) condensing unit
- One (1) remote interface controller with 50’ control
cable
- One (1) 7’ clear plastic drain hose
Humidification—Integral or Stand-alone
Ideal for adding humidity to your wine cellar.
Temperature/Humidity Remote Sensors
Sense and control multiple locations (maximum of three)
within your room. Ideal for odd shaped rooms or multi-
room applications.
Duct Collar Connections
Air Innovations duct collars and duct kits are specifically
designed to attach directly to the WG unit with no addition-
al drilling or tapping required. Kit includes duct collars,
flexible duct, tie wraps and fasteners.

2. Installing the Fan Coil
Wine Guardian split system fan coil units should be
installed indoors located near the wine room. Provide a
three-foot clearance around the unit for installation and
future maintenance. The fan coil unit can be located
either above, or below the condensing unit in height.
Keep any height difference to a maximum of
15’ (4.57meters).
Floor Mounting
• Mount the Wine Guardian fan coil on a plywood
surface at least 12 inches above the floor to keep it
away from water. Allow adequate space for the
routing and pitch of the external drain.
Wall Mounting
• Provide adequate support on both ends of the unit
to accommodate the weight of the system. Construct
a structurally sound level platform, supported by
angle brackets fastened to the wall.
Ceiling Mounting
• Construct a structurally sound, level platform to
place the unit on when hanging it from the ceiling
joists. The system is NOT designed to be suspended
from the top of the unit; it must be supported from
the bottom.
3. Installing Thermostat (Wired)
A. Unit is supplied with 50 feet (15 meters) of cable with
RJ-9 type connection along with the Remote User
Interface Controller.
B. Locate the Remote User Interface within the room
midpoint on a wall in an area with good airflow and
away from any windows or heat sources.
C. Disconnect the wire from the back of the controller and
route the cable to the desired mounting location within
the room.
D. Provide a 3/4” (19 mm) diameter hole within the wall or
racking structure to provide clearance for routing of the
RJ-9 connection at the back of the controller.
E. Remove the back plate of controller and mark
mounting points at the desired location.
F. Drill two 1/8” (3 mm) holes and insert anchors within
mounting surface. Anchors may not be required if
securing to wall studs or racking. Insert screws into the
anchors and test fit the installation of the backing plate.
Tighten/loosen screws to create a snug fit.

G. Re-attach the front cover plate to the back plate by
screwing it into place.
H. Connect RJ-9 cable to the back of the remote user
interface and attach to the wall at the screw
locations.
I. Reconnect RJ-9 cable to side of the Wine Guardian
unit at either COM1 or COM2.

4. Condensate Drain
A. Wine Guardian ducted systems are supplied with 7
feet (2 meters) of ½” (13 mm) inside dimension clear
tube.
NOTE: Wine Guardian units have an internal trap. Do
not double trap piping. Failure to comply may lead to
water leaks and possible water damage to surround-
ing mounting area. Install drain line with a ¼ inch per
linear foot (1.25 cm/linear meter) of pitch.
5. Installing Ductwork
A. The split units are supplied with one (1) supply duct
collar and (1) return duct collar as standard
equipment.
B. Install ductwork by folding back the insulation to
expose the wire reinforced vinyl duct. Slip the
ductwork over the end of the duct collar and fasten
using two tie wraps supplied with the kit making sure
the ductwork is tight on the duct collar.
C. Fold the insulation back over the duct and duct collar
and secure to collar using duct tape.
D. Reconnect cable to side of fan-coil unit at either
COM1 or COM 2.

System Charging
Note: Each SS, DS & WGS Model condensing unit is shipped with
16oz/.453kg of refrigerant charge already.
For systems: SS018/WGS25, DS025/WGS40, DS050/WGS75:
For a typical baseline interconnect line set of 25’ / 7.62 meters, here are the
recommended factory total system refrigerant charges by model:
SS018=51oz / 1.45kg (includes added charge required if an XLA system)
WGS25=1.53kg (includes added charge required if an XLA system)
DS025= 63oz / 1.78kg (includes added charge required if an XLA system)
WGS40=1.75kg (includes added charge required if an XLA system)

6. Installing the Condensing Unit
A. Wine Guardian condensing unit must be mounted
horizontally on its base as shown and be level to +/- ¼”
end to end and 1/8” side to side.
B. A minimum of 12 inches is required around the
perimeter of the condensing unit for proper airflow
across the unit and for service access.
C. Provide a one-inch pitch in suction and liquid line
toward the evaporator for every 10 feet of run to
prevent any refrigerant that condenses in the suction
line from flowing to the compressor or when the unit is
off.
D. Mount system on concrete slab outside above average snow fall heights.
Unit can also be mounted to side of house or within a large indoor crawl space,
attic, or mechanical room that is at least three (3) times the size of the cellar.
E. Prevent dips, sags, or other low spots that will trap refrigerant oil.
F. Evacuate and leak test indoor unit suction and liquid lines by purging the
dry air charge from the unit by opening the liquid line shut-off valve or re-
moving the liquid line outlet fitting or plug, whichever is applicable for your
unit.
G. Pressurize and leak test system (the condensing unit comes pre charged).
A pressure equal to the low side test pressure marked on the unit name-
plate is recommended for leak testing.
H. Evacuate the system to hold at 500 microns and break the vacuum with
refrigerant. Charge the system with the correct amount of refrigerant and
mark the amount, with a permanent marker in the space provided on the
unit nameplate. (See chart on below)

8. Turn Unit On
A. Turn the ON/OFF switch to the “ON” position. Green LED
lit when unit is on . The Remote User Interface is preset
to a room temperature of 55°F (13°C).
B. Press the “Up” arrow once. The display will show the
existing temperature setpoint. Press the “up or down”
arrow buttons to adjust the temperature to the desired
setpoint.
C. The system will turn on after a 5-minute time delay and
the cold air section will start to deliver cold air. Contact Air
Innovations if the system fails to turn on.
7. Wiring the Unit for Power
A. Connect line power to the contactor inside the
condensing unit as shown.
B. Run 24 volt low voltage signal wires from Y and C
terminals on fan coil to Y and C connections in
condenser housing (shown in image to the left).
C. Turn on power to the condensing unit 24 hours prior to
system start-up to allow crankcase heater to warm up
compressor.

DS088= 111oz / 3.14kg (includes added charge required if an XLA system)
WGS100= 3.18kg (includes added charge required if an XLA system)
DS200= 114oz / 3.23kg (includes added charge required if an XLA system)
WGS175= 3.29kg (includes added charge required if an XLA system)
**For each 1 foot, or 1 meter more or less than 25 feet / 7.62 meters
piping, adjust total system refrigerant R134A charge from above
baseline by 1oz /.093kg”

Befeuchtung — Integral oder Stand-Alone
Ideal, um Ihrem Weinkeller Feuchtigkeit hinzuzufügen.
Temperatur-/Feuchtigkeitsaußensensoren
Erfassen und steuern Sie mehrere Standorte (maximal
drei) in Ihren Räumlichkeiten. Ideal für ungewöhnlich
geformte Räume oder Multi-Raum-Anwendungen.
Luftführungsrohr-Verbindungen
Air Innovations Lüftungsrohre und Rohrkits sind speziell
für die direkte Befestigung an der WG-Einheit entworfen;
kein Bohren oder Gewindebohren erforderlich. Das Kit
umfasst Lüftungsrohre, Flex-Rohre, Verschlüsse und
Befestigungselemente.
1. Auspacken
A. Einheit aus Verpackung entnehmen. Überprüfen Sie
alle Anzeichen von verdeckten Schäden, und ob alle
optionalen Geräte zur Verfügung gestellt wurden.
Kontaktieren Sie Air Innovations sofort, wenn
Komponenten fehlen oder wenn das Gerät beim
Versand beschädigt wurde.
B. Lieferung enthält:
- Eine (1) Gebläsekonvektoreneinheit
- Eine (1) Kondensatoreinheit
- Einen (1) Remote-Schnistellen-Controller mit 127-cm-
Steuerkabel (50“)
- Einen (1) 18 cm langen, transparenten Plask-
Ablassschlauch (7“)
2. Montage des Gebläsekonvektors
Gebläsekonvektoren des Wine Guardian Split-Systems sollten im Gebäude
in der Nähe des Weinzimmers installiert werden. Stellen Sie sicher, dass um
die Geräteeinheit herum, für die Installation und zukünftige Wartung, ein
Abstand von einem Meter eingehalten wird. Die Gebläsekonvektoreinheit
kann entweder über oder unter der Höhe der Kondensatoreinheit platziert
werden. Der Höhenunterschied sollte nicht mehr als 4,57 Meter (15“) betra-
gen.

3. Thermostat verkabeln
A. Das Gerät wird mit einem 15 Meter langen Kabel mit
RJ-9- Anschluss für den Remote-Schnittstellen-
Controller geliefert.
B. Platzieren Sie die Remote-Schnittstelle im Raum
mittig auf einer Wand in einem Bereich mit gutem
Luftstrom und abseits von allen Fenstern oder
Wärmequellen
C. Trennen Sie das Kabel von der Rückseite des
Controllers und verlegen Sie es zum gewünschten
Montageort im Raum.
D. Bringen Sie ein Loch mit einem Durchmesser von 19
mm in der Wand oder in der Regalstruktur an, um
Platz für den RJ-9-Anschluss an der Rückseite des
Controllers zu ermöglichen.
E. Entfernen Sie die Rückplatte des Controllers und
markieren Sie die Montagepunkte am gewünschten
Montageort.
F. Bohren Sie zwei 3 mm (1/8“) große Löcher und führen
Sie die Dübel in die Montageoberfläche ein. Dübel
sind nicht erforderlich, wenn sie an einem Wand- oder
Regalsystem befestigt werden. Setzen Sie die
Schrauben in die Dübel ein und testen Sie die
Installation der Rückplatte. Ziehen Sie die Schrauben
an / lösen Sie sie, um einen festen Halt zu erzielen.
Bodenmontage
• Montieren Sie den Wine Guardian-
Gebläsekonvektor auf einer Sperrholzplatte,
mindestens 30 cm (12 Zoll) über dem Boden,
damit dieser vor Wasser geschützt ist. Lassen Sie
ausreichend Platz für das Routing und der
Steigung des externen Abflusses.
Wandmontage
• Stellen Sie an beiden Enden des Geräts eine
angemessene Unterstützung zur Verfügung, um das
Gewicht des Systems entgegenzunehmen.
Konstruieren Sie eine strukturell solide, ebene
Plattform, die durch an der Wand befestigte
Winkelklammern unterstützt wird.
Deckenmontage
• Konstruieren Sie zur Platzierung der Einheit eine
strukturell solide, ebene Plattform, wenn Sie diese
von einem Deckenbalken hängen. Der Wine
Guardian wurde NICHT konzipiert, um von der
Oberseite der Einheit aufgehängt zu werden.
Dieser muss an der Unterseite unterstützt werden.
