1. Description
1.1 Uses
OXYWAY Click is a click dial flowmeter for dispensing
medical oxygen supplied at a system pressure of 4.5 bar by
central gas systems. It is used to increase the proportion of
oxygen in the inhaled air (oxygen inhalation).
1.2 Function
OXYWAY Click
Flow: Dispensing volume,
stated in litres per minute.
During operation, the oxygen supplied by the central gas sys-
tem at a pressure of 4.5 bar passes through the inlet connector
1into the body 2of the OXYWAY Click.
The dial head 3contains an orifice disk with orifices of dif-
ferent diameters which are lined up with the oxygen outlet
4by means of a click dial system. You can set the following
flow rates: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, 12, 15 l/min.
Functional description of oxygen
inhalation
You can use the OXYWAY Click for oxygen inhalation.
Oxygen inhalation only makes sense for patients with
spontaneous breathing.

6Description
EN
If breathing stops, oxygen inhalation is by no means suffi-
cient: in such cases artificial respiration is necessary. The
oxygen pressure during inhalation is not sufficient to over-
come the airway resistance, which means that not enough
oxygen would enter the lungs.
The oxygen is fed to the patient through an inhalation
mask or nasal canula.
You can use an inhalation tube connected to the
OXYWAY Click to attach a breathing bag in order to en-
sure respiration of the patient with an elevated oxygen
concentration.
To prevent drying of the mucous membranes during pro-
longed oxygen inhalation, you can attach a bubble humid-
ifier (see “3.3 Attaching the bubble humidifier” on
page 11).

2.2 Safety rules
For your own safety, the safety of your patients, and to
comply with the requirements of EU Directive 93/42/EEC,
please observe the following points.
Oxygen
Spontaneous explosive reactions can occur if compressed
oxygen comes into contact with flammable substances
(fat, oil, alcohol etc.):
• Keep the equipment and all screw connections abso-
lutely free from oil and grease.
• Never place OXYWAY Click in a disinfectant solution
or other cleaning solution. The patient could inhale
any residual liquid. This could result in injury to the air-
ways. A clean cloth, possibly moistened with clean hot
water, is sufficient for cleaning.
• Always wash your hands before starting to work on
the oxygen supply.
• Smoking and open flames are strictly prohibited in the
vicinity of all fittings containing or transporting
oxygen.
Inhalation
If breathing stops, oxygen inhalation is by no means suffi-
cient: in such cases artificial respiration is necessary. The
oxygen pressure during inhalation is not sufficient to over-
come the airway resistance, which means that not enough
oxygen would enter the lungs.
If you use Weinmann inhalation masks, it is not possible
for the pressure to rise to dangerous levels. You should
however make sure that the exhaled air can escape freely
so that it is not breathed in again.

Operating the appliance
• Please observe these operating instructions. They are
an integral part of the OXYWAY Click and must be
kept available for reference at all times.
• Before starting to work with OXYWAY Click, you
must understand how to operate it.
• A back-up ventilator should always be available in
case of technical failure.
• To prevent infection or bacterial contamination,
please observe Chapter “4. Hygienic preparation” on
page 12.
• Use the OXYWAY Click for the described purpose
only (see “1.1 Uses” on page 5).
Accessories/Repairs
• Always have inspections or repairs carried out by the
manufacturer (Weinmann) or trained expert person-
nel.
• If third-party items are used, functional failures may
occur and fitness for use may be restricted. Biocom-
patibility requirements may also not be met. Please
note that in such cases, any claim under warranty and
liability will be voided if neither the accessories nor
genuine replacement parts recommended in the in-
structions for use are used.
• Protect rubber parts from UV light and prolonged
direct sunlight, as these can make them brittle and
friable.

10 Operation
EN
3. Operation
3.1 Preparing for use
1. Make sure that the dial head of the flowmeter is in po-
sition “0”.
2. Connect the OXYWAY Click to the central gas system.
This is done by pushing the inlet connector of the
OXYWAY Click into the socket of the central gas sys-
tem until you hear it snap into place.
3. Connect the inhalation accessories to the OXYWAY
Click.
4. Use the dial head to set the desired flow.
5. The OXYWAY Click is now ready for use.
3.2 After use
1. Set the dial head to “0”. This is necessary to prevent
pressure hammer when the oxygen supply is opened
again later.
Important
OXYWAY Click is not a shutoff valve! Small amounts
of oxygen can still escape even when it is completely
closed.
2. If the OXYWAY Click is no longer needed here,
remove it from the supply socket.
