Section 1. Tektronix Phaser 350 Color

Printer Configuration

1-1. Overview

The Tektronix Phaser 350 color printer (hereafter known as a Phaser 350) can be

used to print screencopies and text files (such as reports, reviews, and UNIX files).

The Phaser 350 printer can be connected to a system network through an Ethernet,

or directly to a WEStation through the WEStation’s parallel port.

The following sections describe the installation and configuration needed to

successfully operate a Phaser 350 printer either on a network (as described in

Section 1-2) or through a parallel port connection (as described in Section 1-3).

1-2. Using an Ethernet Connection

This section describes how to connect and configure a network Phaser 350 printer.

1-2.1. Connecting the Printer

Use the following procedure to connect the Phaser 350 printer to a network.

Confirm Ethernet Hardware

1. Optional Ethernet internal hardware (a PhaserShare card) must be installed

in the Phaser 350 printer before it can be used on an Ethernet. If a PhaserShare

card is installed in the printer, the interface shown in Figure 1-1 will be visible

on the back of your printer.

2. If there is no PhaserShare card installed, and you want to use an Ethernet

connection, contact your Westinghouse representative. Purchase the Ethernet

hardware and install it in the Phaser 350 printer. After the required hardware is

installed, proceed to Step 3.

3. Make sure you use an appropriate Ethernet cable (based on the Ethernet card

used in your printer as shown in Figure 1-1) to connect the printer to the

network.

4. Confirm that the two dip switches (Switch 1 - Service; and Switch 2 - Reset)in

the back of the printer are in the Up position.

Leave the Service switch in the Up position.

The Reset switch can be used to reset the printer. To reset the printer, put switch

2 in the Off (down) position and then turn it back to the On (up) position.

Note

The IP address displayed on your printer may

be a different address. Do not set the IP

address to 000.000.000.000 since this will

cause the printer to use Dynamic Address

Resolution to set its IP address (refer to the

Tektronix System Administrator manual for

details).

12. Press the Increment button to set the left-most digit of the address.

13. Press the Shift button to advance to the next digit. Press the Increment button

to set this digit.

14. Use the Shift and Increment button to set the remaining digits of the IP address.

15. When the IP address is correctly set, press the Select button to enter your

settings into the printer. The front panel displays the following message:

16. Press the Confirm button to confirm your selection.

•If the selection is a valid number, the front panel briefly displays Selected,

and then returns to the address display. Press the Exit button to return to the

display of the parameter name, then press the right (=>) arrow button to

1-2.2. Configure Printer (8.5 Level Systems and Later)

This section provides instructions for configuring the printer so that WEStation

software can print to it.

1. Use the WDPF or Ovation Admin Tool to define the desired printers for the

Printer Manager. If necessary, refer to the “Using the Define Software

Configuration Function” section of the U0-8300 or R3-1105 manual.

A. Access the WDPF Admin Tool.

B. Select the Define Software Configuration from the Function menu.

Select the Log Server filter from the Filter scrolling list.

Select LS Printer Manager Printers from the Topic scrolling list.

1-2. Using an Ethernet Connection

PER-PRT-0004 1-6 9/98

Westinghouse Proprietary Class 2C

C. The LS Printer Manager Printers pop-up window will appear (as shown

below). Define a screencopy printer by selecting the drop number (from

the “Configuration for Drop Numbers” selections) of the Printer Manager

that will be configured.

D. Select Create.

E. Enter teksc (screencopy printer name) in the Printer entry field and select

the Apply button.

F. Select Printer Connection from the Display menu.

G. Select the Tektronix 240 (Screencopy) printer from the Printer Model

menu (the Tektronix 240 choice will select the Tektronix 350 printer).

H. Select the Apply button.

I. To define a text printer (that will actually be the same physical printer as

teksc), repeat Steps C through H, but enter tektext in the Printer entry field,

and select Tektronix 240 (Text) printer from the Printer Model menu

(the Tektronix 240 choice will select the Tektronix 350 printer).

1-2. Using an Ethernet Connection

2. Use the WDPF or Ovation Admin Tool to create and install the files needed by

the WDPF Printer Manager. If necessary, refer to the “Using the Install

ConfigurationonSoftwareServerFunction”section ofthe U0-8300 or R3-1105

manual.

A. Select Install Configuration on Software Server from the Function menu.

Select Log Server from the Filter scrolling list.

Select LS Log Server Configuration from the Topic scrolling list.

B. If verification of configuration is desired before installation, select the

Properties button and use its functions (as described in the “Using

the Properties Window” section of the U0-8300 or R3-1105 manual).

1-2. Using an Ethernet Connection

PER-PRT-0004 1-8 9/98

Westinghouse Proprietary Class 2C

3. Use the WDPF or Ovation Admin Tool to download the required files to the

Printer Manager target drop. If necessary, refer to the “Using the Download

Configuration to Drops Function” section of the U0-8300 or R3-1105 manual.

A. Select the Download Configuration to Drops from the Function menu.

Select the Log Server filter from the Filter scrolling list.

Select the target drop number from the Drop scrolling list (select Printer

Manager drops and all drops that use Printer Manager facilities; or simply

select all drops to ensure that the correct drops are selected).

B. Select the Download button. Typically, a Download Preview window will

appear (unless No was selected in the Properties window) indicating

the files that are ready to be downloaded to the target drop (any drop

which sends files to the LS for printing, such as MMI, LS, HSR, and EWS).

C. If the selections are correct, select the Download selected files button.

D. Select the Restart Applications on Drops button (with drops selected that

were downloaded in Step A)

1-2. Using an Ethernet Connection

9/98 1-9 PER-PRT-0004

Westinghouse Proprietary Class 2C

1-2.3. Add Printer to Printer Manager Drop

1. Decide which drop will be the “printer host.” This will typically be the drop

containing the Printer Manager Package.

2. The /etc/hosts file on the target drop that will function as the Printer Manager

must be edited to assign the network number and the printer’s logical name(s).

Note

User must be superuser on the Printer

Manager drop to edit /etc/hosts file.

Use an ASCII text editor to edit the file (see example below):

A. Assign the unique network number (IP address) for the printer

(as determined in Step 7 in Section 1-2.1).

B. Assign teksc (screencopies) and tektext (text files) as the logical names.

Note

“teksc” and “tektext” are the recommended

logical printer names. However, any names

may be assigned.

This enables two virtual (logical) printers to be mapped to the same physical

printer. The Printer Manager will use the virtual (logical) printer names in

the ls/config/defaults file.

Example of /etc/hosts File

# Internet host table

127.0.0.1 localhost loghost

192.9.200.160 drop160

192.9.200.001 teksc tektext

Note

Verify that the software package “Log Server

Printer Manager” has been installed on the

target drop. If necessary, refer to the U0-8300

or R3-1105 manual. for information on using

the Init Tool to identify what software packages

are installed on a drop.
