Introduction

Symbol Technologies’ 3366 Cradle provides communication and

charging capabilities for Series 3300 terminals. The 3366

communicates through an RS-232 interface to a computer, printer

or modem.

About This Guide

This guide provides operation and installation information.

Ta b l e M o u n t i n g

Note: Installing the suction cup feet is not mandatory but will

help keep the cradle in place.

1. On the bottom of the cradle, thread each of the four suction

cup feet into the screw holes.

2. Wet the base of each suction cup then secure the cradle to a

smooth tabletop by pushing firmly down on the cradle.

3366 Cradle

Wall Mounting

1. Hold the cradle against the wall and mark the two screw hole

positions (one in the first cradle slot and one in the fourth cra-

dle slot). Make sure the wall is flat.

2. Attach the cradle with appropriate fasteners. For example, use

anchors for plasterboard (drywall).

3. Cover the screw holes in the cradle with the black self-adhe-

sive strips provided.

Connecting Power

1. Connect the power supply cord with the round plug to the

power connector on the side of the cradle (power supply p/n

60153-00-00 for domestic use and 60174-00-00 for interna-

tional).

2. Connect the power supply cord with the AC plug to a stan-

dard electrical outlet.

3. The green and red indicators light for about 3 seconds, blink

for 3 seconds, then go out.

Quick Reference

Connecting Cable for Data Communicatons

(to a host computer, printer or modem)

1. Plug serial cable (RS-232) into the communication port locat-

ed on the left end of cradle below the power connector.

2. Connect the other end of the cable to the serial (COMM) port

of the host computer or printer.

Note: In most cases, you must use a null-modem cable. How-

ever, modems and some serial printers (DCE-type) do

not need a null-modem. See your system administrator.

3366 Cradle

Inserting Terminal in Cradle

Caution: Do not remove the terminal while the

cradle's red COMM light is blinking.

1. Seat the terminal into the bottom of the cradle.

2. Press the top of the terminal toward the back of the cradle un-

til the terminal is firmly seated. The cradle’s green CHARG-

ING indicator lights and the terminal is turned on.

3. To remove, pull top of terminal forward then lift it out of cra-

dle.

Quick Reference

Connecting to Other Cradles

Up to 25 cradles can be connected in series using an RS-232 inter-

cradle cable (p/n 60427-00-00).

Caution: Each cradle must have its own power supply; any other

method of power hookup is unsafe.

1. Plug one end of the inter-cradle cable into the communication

port located on the right end of the first cradle.

2. Plug the other end of the inter-cradle cable into the communi-

cation port located below the power connector on the left end

of the second cradle .

3. Connect power supply to second cradle as described in “Con-

necting Power” on page 2.

4. Repeat the above steps for any additional cradles you wish to

connect.

Sending Data

1. Place the terminal in the cradle.

2. Press the appropriate key on the terminal as required by your

application program. The cradle's red COMM indicator

blinks when communication begins.

3366 Cradle

Caution: Do not remove the terminal while the cradle's red

COMM light is blinking.

Recharging the Terminal's Battery

Caution: Do not charge if battery temperature is below 0°C

(32°F). If below 0°C, wait 2 hours for battery to warm

up.

•The NiCd battery is automatically recharged whenever the

terminal is properly inserted in the cradle. The terminal may

be on or off.

•The terminal must be left in the cradle up to 14 hours to re-

charge a fully discharged battery. The terminal contains a safe-

ty mechanism so that disposable alkaline batteries are not

charged.
