MultECon Charger M60
The MultECon series stands for universal charge controllers which are
characterized by intelligent battery management, energy efficiency and
diverse energy sources (power supply, 12V car, solar).“Multi” stands for
adaptable, “E” for energy and “Con” for controller or converter.
The technology “made in Germany” is the highest level of product quality and safety.
It labels SUNLOAD products.
The CE sign stands for Commanauté Europénne, i.e the Euro-
pean Community, meaning that all products coming with that
sign comply with all EU health and safety directives applicable
to the corresponding product category. This is the condition for marketing
of a product in European Union. The CE sign is the manufacture’s declaration
that the product meets the applicable EU directives and thus may be safely
operated. In addition, the SUNLOAD has the compliance with CE regulations
confirmed by an independent institute.

Dear customer!
With your new MultECon Charger M60 you will experience a new dimension
of independence. The MultECon Charger M60 stores the power you need
away conveniently and safely into a high power battery (ca. 68Wh). Wherever
you are, you will always have enough standby power for instance for your
notebook, mobile phone etc.
Also charge standard NiMH batteries (typ AA and AAA) in the integrated accu
box.
Moreover your MultECon Charger M60 will take you to the age of solar power
generation. In combination with a SUNLOAD solar panel you will soon gene-
rate your own solar power (see optional accessories).
The M60 has been specially developed for use with state-of-the-art thinfilm
solar panels. There are a number of significant advantages associated with
photovoltaic solar cells that use thinfilm technology; they consist of a thin film
surrounded by e.g. a layer of plastic material and are therefore extremely light,
flexible and are practically unbreakable. Thinfilm cells are therefore ideally
suited to portable use.
To ensure that the solar cells are operating to their maximum performance,
the M60 operates on the principle of MPP (Maximum Point of Power) tracking.
This means that solar cells always operate at their maximum capacity by intel-
ligently monitoring the performance results. The solar power gained is stored
in the M60 in high-performance lithium ion battery and can be used when
sunlight is unavailable. These internal battery can also be recharged using a
100 V / 240 V wall socket or a 12 V car adapter cable.
Enjoy your new MultECon Charger M60.
Your SUNLOAD Team

About this manual
This M60 comes with a multilevel safety system. Nevertheless we recommend
you to read this manual carefully. In order to avoid any risk or injuries make
sure to operate M60 only as described in this manual. Please keep this manual
for reading it from time to time. When passing on the device, make sure to
hand over this manual as well.
Please note that we can have a revision of this manual on our homepage.
Symbols used in this manual:
This sign warns you of the risks of injury.
This sign warns you of the risk of explosion.
This sign warns you of potential damage.

6
Do not expose to open re, water, rain, snow or wet environment. Risk of explosion
or short circuit! Protect the device from getting wet (e.g. in case of rain) and direct
sunshine!
Do not keep the device or its accessories within the reach of children or animals! Keep
away from children any small parts which might be swallowed! If any object has been
swallowed, immediately call a doctor! Do not operate the device if the casing or a
cable has been damaged. Touching live parts may cause electric shock!
Do not use the device for operating life support or other medical equipment.
For charging at a wall socket use only the power adapter supplied with the device.
When transporting your M60 in a bag, keep out any beverages or other liquids, to
prevent the electronic components from being damaged.
The temperature of the device may rise up to 50°C approximately, when in use. Keep
away any materials which are not suitable for that temperature!
Safety advice
If the device does not work properly, please read the trouble-shooting section
before calling customer service
Do not use other accessories than recommended by SUNLOAD!
Information about air transport
The M60 is a subject to the applicable air transport legislation and the regulations of each airline
with regard to electronic equipment and must be switched o in aircraft!

The internal battery
Your M60 stores the energy in a latest-generation high-quality recharbeable
Lithium-Ion battery. The energy storage capacity of the battery is indicated in
Wh (watt hours).
Due to natural ageing the battery loses capacity over time. In order to delay
this process as much as possible, the battery is electronically monitored and
protected from excessive strain. In many cases this may extend the life of
battery even beyond the time indicated by the manufacturer. It cannot be
excluded, however, that the battery may age much faster in cases.
The following recommendation will ensure a longer life of your battery:
Do not expose the battery to temperatures above 20°C during a
longer period. Otherwise there is the danger of premature ageing.
When storing the M60 for a longer time, make sure it has been
switched off and that the battery has the appropriate charging level
(70%). Risk of over-discharge! Please find more about recommended
storage conditions in the Technical data section.
To minimize the risk of over-discharge connect a thinfilm solar panel
(3Wp is good enough) to M60. Ensure that the M60 is switched on
and that there is sufficient daylight for the panel.
The internal battery is cadmium free.
Do not use or store the M60 in an incorrect way or open the
housing. Otherwise your limited warranty will become void.
Please note the recommendations about disposal of the internal
battery!
Several electronic safety stages in your M60 protect the battery against over-
load and overcurrent and as far as possible against excessive discharge. Howe-
ver, since Lithium-Ion batteries are self-discharging, complete over-discharge
protection is not possible. If the battery is damaged due to the excessive
discharge, the safety system will switch off the M60 permanently, until the
battery has been replaced. There is no warranty for over-discharge!

Which solar panel fits to M60?
This M60 device was especially designed to work highly efficiently with
different solar panels.
The connector must be a DC plug (round hollow type 5.5 x 2.1).
Be careful when using modular adapter plugs from other manufactures! They may have
the inverse polarity!
The acceptable solar input voltage (Solar IN) of the M60 is limited to 30V.
Please note that the open-circuit voltage of the solar panel must be lower than 30V;
otherwise the M60 will be damaged!
As regards the size of the panel, please note that the maximum power of the
device may process amounts to 30 W. Above an input power of 30W the char-
ge current will automatically be limited. Depending on the weather conditions,
we recommend using solar panels with a peak power from 30 to 62 Watt. Higher
panel power will not accelerate the charging process. But it gives you an output
reserve if the conditions are not perfect.
Please note, that even a minor shadow on the solar panel surface consider-
ably reduces its power.
Duration of a charging process in practice
The nominal capacity of M60 is equate to standard notebooks. When using a
SUNLOAD solar panel 62 Wp (flexible and foldable) for a complete charging
you need at least 3h provided that the sky is clear and the panel is orientated
to the sun.
If you have cloudy weather conditions and you use only a 30Wp panel the
time for a complete charging can increase up to 8h - 10h.
