Instruction Manual

Introduction

The PCI4S954PW 4-Port PCI Serial Card (with Power Output) turns a PCI slot into 4

RS232 (DB9) serial connections and enables compatible devices to draw power from

the serial ports.

Suitable for many RS232-powered serial applications, this PCI serial card oers a selectable

5V or 12V power option capable of power output using pin 1, 4, 8 or 9, allowing you to

congure the card to suit the requirements of your powered RS232 devices.

A exible solution for adding serial ports to full-sized, or small form factor systems,

the 4-port serial card includes both low and full prole brackets while the included

breakout cable helps to avoid cluttered connections.

Installation

WARNING! PCI cards, like all computer equipment, can be severely damaged by static

electricity. Be sure that you are properly grounded before opening your computer

case or touching your PCI card. StarTech.com recommends that you wear an anti-static

strap when installing any computer component. If an anti-static strap is unavailable,

discharge yourself of any static electricity build-up by touching a large grounded metal

surface (such as the computer case) for several seconds. Also be careful to handle the

PCI card by its edges and not the gold connectors.

Jumper Conguration

Each serial port has a set of jumpers that are

used to congure the voltage and on which

pin the power is output. The ports can also

be congured to not output any power and

function as a standard serial port.
