GENERALZ
The installation must conformwith local codes,or in the absenceoflocal codes,with the National Fuel Gas
Code,ANSI Z223.1- Latest Edition. Canadian installation must complywith CAN/CGA-B149.1Natural Gas
Installation Code,CodeCAN/CGA-B1492PropaneInstallation Code.
Thesemodelsaredesigncertifiedfor operationonNatural or Propanegases.
The appliance shouldbeconnectedONLY to the type ofgasfor which it is equipped AI1Southbendequipment
is adjusted at the factory.
NOTE: Checktype ofgasonserialplate.
Models: SCB-Series- serialplatelocatedleft front corner on bottominside lower compartment.
Models: SCBC-Series- remove front control panel. Serial plate attached in the center on the
compartment front shieldtounit.
NOTE: Each SCB-SeriesBroiler is a completeunit with an individual 1%”NFT manifold acrossits entire
width. Units can be batteried by joining the unions at the endsof the manifolds- This manifold is not
equipped directly with apressureregulator. However,the manifold must beconnectedwith an adequately
sized gas appliancepressureregulator adjusted to supply a pressureto this manifold as marked on the
serial plate; 6”W.C.for natural gasand 10”WC. for propane gas.In addition, the pressureregulator must
meetthe following requirements:
1. The pressureregulator installed shouldbecertified by a nationally recoO&ed testing agency.
2. The regulator musthaveamaximumregulation capacityfor the total connectedload.
3. The regulator musthaveapressureadjustment rangeto allow adjustmentto the manifoldpressureonthe
appliancerating plate.
4. Unless the manifold pressure of all connected appliances is the same, a separate regulator must be
supplied for eachunit(s) to indicateunit or units having differing manifold pressures.
5. If applicable, the vent line fromthe gasappliance pressure regulator shall be installed to the outdoors in
accordancewith local codesor, in the absenceof local codes,with the National Fuel Gas Code,ANSI
223.1 - Latest Edition. Canadian installation must comply with CAN/CGA-B149.1 Natural Gas
Installation Code,CodeCAN/CGA-B149.2PropaneInstallation Code.
An adequategassupply is imperative.Undersizedor low pressurelines will restrict the volumeofgasrequired
for satisfactory performance.A steadysupply pressure,between 7” W.C.and 8” WC. for natural gas and 11”
W.C. and 12” WC. for propanegasis recommended.With all units operating simultaneously, the manifold
pressure on all units shouldnot showany appreciabledrop. Fluctuations ofmorethan 25%onnatural and 10%
on propane gas will create pilot problems and affect burner operating characteristics. Contact your gas
companyfor correctsupplyline sizes.
As an option, the unit maybesuppliedwith a rear gasconnection.The pipe sizeofthis connectionis oneinch.
Unless otherwise specified,this connectionis weldedto the right sideofthe manifold.
NOTE: Each SCBC-SeriesCounterBroiler is a completeunit with an individual %”NBT supply connection at
the rear. An adequategassupplyis imperative. Undersized or low pressurelines will restrict the volume of
gasrequired for satisfactoryperformance.A pressure regulator, which is provided with eachunit, is set to
maintain a 4” W.C.manifold pressurefor natural gas and a 10”W.C.manifold pressurefor propane gas.
However, to maintain these conditions the pressure on the supply line, when all units are operating
simultaneously, shouldnot dropbelow7”WC. for natural gasor 11”WC. for propanegas.
A %”pressuretap is locatedonthe manifold ofeachunit.
All pipe joints should betestedfor leaks with a soapand water solution beforeoperating the unit. The test
pressure should not exceed14”WC.
CAUTION: THIS APPLIANCE AND ITS INDIVIDUAL SHUTOFF VALVE MUST BE
DISCONNECTED FROM THE GAS SUPPLY PIPING SYSTEM DURING ANY PRESSURE
TESTING OFTHAT SYSTEMAT TESTPRESSURESIN EXCESSOF l/2 PSIG (3.45kPa).
THIS APPLLANCEMUST BE ISOLATED FROM THE GASSUPPLY PIPlNG SYSTEM BY
CLOSING ITS INDIVIDUAL MANUAL SHUTOFF VALVE DURING ANY PRESSURE
TESTING OF THE GM SUPPLYPIPING SXSlZM AT TEST PRESSURESEQUAL TO OR
LESS THAN 1I2 PSIG(3.45kPa).
