Congratulations with the purchase of your Looky. On the last page of
this manual you will find a (product-) control-summary which will
be referred to in this manual. Read the manual carefully before you
start using the Looky.
Safety and Maintenance:
Protect the device and its batteries from moisture, rain, sand
or extreme temperatures like radiators or direct sunlight.
Do not use cleaning products that contain alcohol, methylated
spirits, ammonia or abrasives. These can damage the device.
Only use accessories that the producer supplies you with or
approves of.
Never connect the Looky to the adapter when the Looky is
switched on.
Never throw batteries into a fire. Batteries that are defect and
chargers are considered chemical waste. They therefore need
to be disposed of at a refuse/recycling centre of your choice.
Installing the Looky:
Place the batteries in the battery compartment (3). Pay
attention to the polarity of the batteries and ensure that the
nylon string (4) does not make contact with the exposed
terminal(s) of the batteries.
Charge the batteries completely before using the Looky.
Carefully read the charging instructions!

Instructions for charging:
Put the adaptor in the wall socket and connect its plug to the
adaptor entrance (5) of the Looky. Two short beeps will be
heard.
LED (6) burning constantly = batteries are being charged
LED (6) blinking = batteries are fully charged
LED (6) blinking = batteries are defect or
+ audible dual signal are non-rechargeable batteries
The charging process will be interrupted if you turn on the
Looky!
Pay attention:
* Charge the batteries in a well ventilated environment.
(Always remove the Looky from its carrying case. Do not
place it in direct sunlight or near a radiator.)
Battery maintenance:
* Remove the batteries from the Looky if you do not intend
to use it for an extended period of time. This will
improve the longevity of the batteries.
* Batteries are sensitive to overcharging. It is
recommended to only charge the batteries when they are
completely drained.
* Chargeable NiMh batteries have an auto discharge that
strongly depends on the temperature of the
environment. (e.g. never leave your batteries in a car that is
parked in direct sunlight.)
* New NiMh batteries must be charged several times before
reaching their nominal capacity.
* Charge NiMh batteries at least once every 6 months.
* The average lifespan of a battery is usually 300 charging
cycles, but this depends on the use. Total capacity will
slowly decrease after multiple charging cycles.

Switching the Looky on or off:
Keep one of the buttons (1,2) pressed (ca. 3 seconds) to switch
the Looky on. A two-pitched signal will be heard.
When you have the Looky switched on, and it doesn’t detect
any movement on the screen, it will switch itself off after
3 minutes. A two-pitched signal will be heard.
When the batteries are empty, the Looky will switch itself
off. You will hear a high pitched tone that fades away.
Folding handle:
The Looky has a foldable handle. This handle can be used in
several positions. When the handle is extended, you can use
the Looky as a magnifier. The closer you get to the object, the
bigger the magnification will be (from 3x to 8x).
It is also possible to use the Looky with the handle folded in.
The magnification will then be about 8x. This is easier when
you want some stability during the reading of texts.
If you want to alter the magnification, but
are experiencing some problems with
stability, we advise you to use the Looky
Support. This is a convenient tool to
change the magnification and viewing
angle while keeping the stability.

It is also possible to use the Looky when
writing. To do this, the handle must be
extended to the maximum. When you
then press the handle flat to the table,
the display will rise up at an angle. The
space that is created underneath the
Looky can be used to write. We advise to
use the colour mode when
writing.
Display (2):
By pressing the blue button you can select 3 display options:
- Colour
- Positive high contrast (black text on a white background)
- Negative high contrast (white text on a black background)
Freeze function (1):
By pressing the yellow button you can freeze the image on the Looky’s
display. Press the button again to revert to the regular viewing mode.
You can recognize this button by the elevated dot in the middle of
the button.
When the image is frozen, the lighting will be dimmed to save
battery capacity.
It is possible to switch between the 3 display modes when
the image is frozen.
