Chapter 1OVERVIEW

Thank you forpurchasing PLANET FT-70Xfamily Fast Ethernet

Twisted pair to Fiber-optic Converter. This converter is usedto

convert one type media signal to othertype equivalentthat

allowstwotype segments connect easily, efficiently and inex-

pensively. This converter canbe used as astandalone unitor as

aslide-in module to the10”/19”media chassis (up to15 units) for

aTPandFiber combined networks at acentral wiring closet.

Please contact with your salesrepresentative for moreabout the

19”media chassis.

Chapter 2MODEL LIST

YourFast EthernetConvertercomes with one of the following

models.

Chapter 5INSTALLINGTHE CONVERTER

Please followthese steps to install the converter:

• Turn off the powerof thedevice/station in anetwork to

which the FT-70Xwill beattached.

• Ensure that there is noactivity in the network.

• Attach fiber cable fromthe FT-70X tothe fiber network. TX,

RXmust bepaired at both ends for some twoconnectors

models.

• Attach aCat. 5UTP cable fromthe100Base-TX network to

theRJ-45 port on the FT-70X.

• Connect the 5VDC poweradapter to the FT-70Xandverify

that thePower LED lights up.

• Turn onthe power of the device/station,the TX Link and FX

Link LEDs should light whenall cables are attached.

FT-70X

Note:

n RJ-45/STP, UTP Cat 5, straight-through cable is ac-

cepted.

n Cabling fromFT-70XTP port to aTP deviceis as below:

q To Workstation: DIPswitch on DTE

q To Hub/Switch: DIPswitchon MPR

n Please refertosection 8formoreabout the wiring dis-

tance of yourTP, Optic-fiber networks.

n Please note FT-706A15/706B15is designedto work to-

gether. It meansyou must connect FT-706A15 to

FT-706B15from them towork normally. If bothends are

FT-706A15orFT-706B15, they can tworknormallyand

may damage thefiberconnectors.

Chapter 6 DUPLEX MODESETTING

The twistedpair port of FT-70Xsupport duplexmode selection

by Auto-Negotiation (A-N). The following is theduplex mode

parameters:

Fast Ethernet Device FT-70X Duplex Mode support

Fast Ethernet Hub Half-Duplex

Fast Ethernet Switch (without A-N) Half-Duplex

Fast Ethernet Devices *

Support Auto-Negotiation Full-Duplex / Half-Duplex

Note: Normally, an A-Nswitch will bedetected and set to

Full-duplexwhere adual-speedhub will bedetectedand

set to Half-Duplex.
