1. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

PDFcreated withpdfFactoryProtrialversion www.pdffactory.com

1.1. GENERALGUIDELINES

1. For continued safety, no modification of anycircuitshouldbe

attempted.

2. Disconnect AC Plug before disassembling thisunit.

3. Itisadvisableto use an isolation transformer inthe AC supply

before servicing.

4. When servicing, observe the original lead dress. Ifashort circuit

isfound, replace all parts which have been overheated or

damaged bythe short circuit.

5. After servicing, see to itthat all the protective devices such as

insulation barriers, insulation papers, shield, and isolation R-C

combinations etc. are properlyinstalled.

6. After servicing, be sure to restore the wires, leads, insulation

barriers, shields, etc.

7. After servicing, make the leakage current checks to prevent the

customer from being exposed to shock hazards.

Caution:

Use aseparate Isolation Transformer for thisunitwhen servicing.

1.2. LEAKAGECURRENTCHECK

1. Connect AC Plug to 120 voltor 240 voltAC outlet.

Donot use the ground prong of AC Plug. (See Fig. 1-2-1)

Donot use aisolation transformer for thischeck.

Fig. 1-2-1

2. Connect a1.5Kohms, 10 watts resistor, inparallel with a0.15 F

capacitor, between each exposed metallicpart on the set and a

good earth ground. (See Fig. 1-2-2)

Fig. 1-2-2

PDFcreated withpdfFactoryProtrialversion www.pdffactory.com

3. Use an AC voltmeter, with 1000 ohms/voltor more sensitivity, to

measure the potential across the resistor.

4. Check each exposed metallicpart, and measure the voltage at

each point.

5. Reverse the AC plug inthe AC outlet and repeat each of the above

measurements.

6. The potential at anypoint shouldnot exceed 1.125 voltRMS. A

leakage current tester (Simpson Model 229 equivalent) maybe

used to make the hot checks, leakage current must not exceed

0.75 milliamp. Incase ameasurement isoutside of the

limitsspecified, there isapossibilityof shock hazard, and the LCD

Projector shouldbe repaired and rechecked before itisreturned

to the customer.

1.3. UV-PRECAUTION

1. Besure to disconnect the AC Plug when replacing the lamp.

2. Since the lamp reaches averyhigh temperature during its

operation, waituntil ithas completelycooled off when replacing

the Lamp Unit.

3. The lamp emits small amounts of UV-Radiation.

Avoiddirect-eyecontact. Fig. 1-3-1

2. OPERATION GUIDE

Note:

-Atthisservice manual, itmentions onlythe Operating Instructions

of PT-L759Uas the representative of PT-L759U, PT-L759E and PT-

L759A.

-Because some pages inthe user instruction manual are used for

thischapter (page 5through 50 inthisservice manual)without

change, note that the page numbers showninthe sentences of

thischapter are those of the user instruction manual.

3. SERVICE CAUTIONS AND NOTES

3.1. SERVICEPOSITION

The position showninFig. 3-1-1 is usedforchecking, adjusting and replacing parts.

Extension Cable (LSUA0024) is necessaryforservicing.

Fig. 3-1-1

1. Inthe order described inthe "4.2. DisassemblyMethod of Cabinet

Parts" of 4. Disassembly/AssemblyProcedures, remove the Top

Cover Ass'y.

2. Remove 7screws(F) and 2screws(G)as showninFig. 4-2-6.

3. Disconnect connectors P3501, P3502, P3503 and P4001 on the

MainC.B.A.

4. Connect Extension Cables as follows:

A. Connect Extension Cable(36 pin) between P3501 on the Main

C.B.A. and LCD Red Unit.a) Connect Extension Cable(36 pin)

between P3501 on the MainC.B.A. and LCD Red Unit.

B. Connect Extension Cable(36 pin) between P3502 on the Main

C.B.A. and LCD Green Unit.

PDFcreated withpdfFactoryProtrialversion www.pdffactory.com

C. Connect Extension Cable(36 pin) between P3503 on the Main

C.B.A. and LCD Blue Unit.

5. Carefullyplace the MainC.B.A. as showninFig. 3-1-2.

Note:

The LCD Projectorpowercannot be turnedon unless the AirFilterunit is correctlyinstalled.

6. After servicing, remove Extension Cables.

7. Reinstall the MainC.B.A., and reconnect connectors.

8. Make sure that all wires and leads are placed intheiroriginal

position.

Fig. 3-1-2

3.2. How to displayLamp operation time (Service Mode)

1. Connect ajumper wire between TP6012 and TP6013 on Main

C.B.A. for over 5seconds as showninFig. 3-2-1.

Fig. 3-2-1

EEPROM IC (IC6009) toreplacedMainC.B.A. from

original MainC.B.A.

3.3. How to initialize EEPROMIC

PDFcreated withpdfFactoryProtrialversion www.pdffactory.com

If bothEEPROM IC’s (IC6009, IC6010) on MainC.B.A. are replaced: Afterreplacing both

EEPROM IC’s (IC6009, IC6010), be sure toperform eachof following steps inthe order

presented.

1. Connect ajumper wire between TP6016 and TP6017 on Main

C.B.A. for over 5seconds to set to factoryset mode. Then,

remove the jumper wire.

2. “FACTORY” appears on screen.

3. Connect ajumper wire between TP6016 and TP6017 againfor over

5seconds to initialize EEPROMIC’s. Then, remove the jumper
