3. CAUTIONS TO BE OBSERVED WHEN

TROUBLESHOOTING

Unlike manyotherappliances, the microwave ovenis high-voltage, high-current equipment.

Though it is free fromdangerinordinaryuse, extreme care shouldbe takenduring repair.

CAUTION

Servicemenshouldremove theirwatches

wheneverworking close toorreplacing the

magnetron.

3.1. Check the grounding

Donot operate on a 2-wire extension cord. The microwave ovenis designedtobe usedwhen

grounded. It is imperative, therefore, tomake sure it is groundedproperlybefore beginning

repairwork.

3.2. Warning about the electriccharge inthe high voltage capacitor

Forabout 30 seconds afterthe ovenis turnedoff, anelectric charge remains inthe high voltage

capacitor.Whenreplacing orchecking parts, remove the powerplug fromthe outlet and short

the terminal of the high voltage capacitor(terminal of leadwire fromdiode) tochassis ground

withaninsulatedhandle screwdrivertodischarge.

WARNING

There is high-voltage present, withhigh-current

capabilities inthe circuits of the high voltage

winding and filament winding of the high voltage

transformer. It is extremelydangerous towork on

ornearthese circuits withovenenergized. / DO

NOTmeasure the voltage inthe high voltage

circuit including filament voltage of magnetron.

WARNING

Nevertouchanycircuit wiring withyourhand nor

withaninsulatedtool during operation.

3.3. When parts must be replaced, remove the power plug from the

outlet.

3.4. When the 8Amp fuse isblowndue to the operation of short

switch:

WARNING

Whenthe 8 Ampfuse is blowndue tothe operation

of short switch, you must replace Primarylatch

switchand short switch. Alsoreplace powerrelay

B (RY1) whenthe continultycheck reads shorted

contacts(1-2).

1. Thisismandatory. Refer to “Adjustments and Measurement” for

these switches.

2. When replacing the fuse, confirm that ithas the appropriate rating

for these models.

3. When replacing faultyswitches, be sure mounting tabs are not

bent, broken or otherwise deficient intheirabilityto holdthe

switches.

3.5. Avoidinserting nails, wire, etc. through anyholes inthe unit

during operation.

Neverinsert a wire, nail oranyothermetal object through the lampholes on the cavityorany

otherholes orgaps, because suchobjects maywork as anantenna and cause microwave

leakage.

3.6. Confirm after repair

1. After repairor replacement of parts, make sure that the screwsof

the oven, etc. are neither loose nor missing. / Microwaves might

leak ifscrewsare not properlytightened.

2. Make sure that all electrical connections are tight before inserting

the plug into the wall outlet.

3. Check for microwave energyleakage.

CAUTION / MICROWAVE RADIATION

DO NOTBECOME EXPOSED TO RADIATION

FROM THE MICROWAVE GENERATOR OR OTHER

PARTS CONDUCTING MICROWAVE ENERGY.

IMPORTANTNOTICE

1.The following components have potentials above

2000V while the appliance is operated.

*Magnetron

*High voltage transformer

*High voltage diode

*High voltage capacitor

Payspecial attention on these portions.

2.Whenthe appliance is operatedwiththe door

hinge ormagnetron fixedincorrectly, the

microwave leakage canreachmore than5mW/cm2.

Afterrepairorexchange, it is veryimportant to

check if magnetron and the doorhinge is correctly

fixed.

3.7. Sharp edges

CAUTION

Please use caution whenunpacking, installing or

moving the unit, as some exposededges maybe

sharptotouchand cause injuryif not handledwith

care.

4. MEASUREMENTS AND ADJUSTMENTS

4.1. Adjustment of primarylatch switch, secondarylatch switch and

short switch.

1. When mounting Primarylatch switch,Secondarylatch switch and

short switch to door hook assembly, mount the Primarylatch

swith, the Secondarylatch switch and the short switch to the door

hook assemblyas shownintable.

NOTE:

Nospecificadjustment during installation of Primarylatch

switch,Secondarylatch switch and short switch to the door hook

isnecessary.

2. When mounting the door hook assemblyto the oven assembly,

adjust the door hook assemblybymoving itinthe direction of

arrow inthe illustration so that the oven door will not have any

playinit. Check for playinthe door bypulling the door assembly.

Make sure that the latch keysmove smoothlyafter adjustment is

completed. Completelytighten the screwsholding the door hook

assemblyto the oven assembly.

3. Reconnect the short switch and check the coninuityof the

monitor circuitand all latch switches againbyfollowing the

components test procedures.

4.2. Measurement of microwave output

The output powerof the magnetron canbe determinedbyperforming IEC standardtest

procedures. However, due tothe complexityof IEC test procedures, it is recommendedtotest

the magnetron using the simple method outlinedbelow.

NecessaryEquipment:

-1liter beaker

-Glass thermometer

-Wrist watch or stopwatch

NOTE:

Check the line voltage under load.Low voltage will lower the

magnetron output. Take the temperature readings and heating time

as accuratelyas possible.

1. Fill the beaker with exactlyone liter of tap water. Stirthe water

using the thermometer and record the beaker’stemperature.

(recorded as T1).

2. Place the beaker on the center of glass cook plate. / Set the oven

for High power and heat itfor exactlyone minute.

3. Stirthe water againand read the temperature of the beaker.

(recorded as T2).

4. The normal temperature rise at High power position for each

model isas shownintable.

TABLE (1L-1min.test)

RATED OUTPUT TEMPERATURE RISE

800W(IEC60705) Min. 8°C
