SAFETY INFORMATION
Please read before proceeding with Installation or Commissioning
This unit should only be installed, operated, serviced or repaired by suitable trained or
authorised personnel.
No unauthorised or untrained personnel must open or remove the cover without
isolating the mains supply first.
Before connecting Mains supply check that the 110V/ 240V switch on the PCB is correct
for the voltage applied. Personal injury and/or Permanent damage to the unit are possible
if the incorrect supply is connected. Supply is AC 50Hz, fused at a maximum of 3 Amps.
Connection to the mains supply is via a 4-way connector next to the transformer at the top
of the PCB marked: -
E = Earth Connection (Must be Completed)
N = Neutral
E = Earth
L = Live
Always ensure correct connection before powering, incorrect connection may result in
personal injury and/or component failure.
The mains input is protected within the Unit by a 250mA quick blow 20mm glass fuse.
Replacement must only be carried out with the supply isolated externally, (Only replace
with a fuse of correct value)
Secondary supply is protected by a 250mA SB fuse
Removal of the modem must not be completed until unplugged from the BT socket.
On No account must the unit be installed, commissioned or repaired in adverse weather
conditions i.e., thunder, lightning, Rain etc.
These safety notices are not exhaustive and user must maintain their own safe working
practices.

Installation Details
Mounting and Enclosure.
Enclosure is rated at IP65 and is mounted via a mounting tab at each corner of the case.
I/O Connections.
Digital & Analogue inputs are connected to the 3 columns of disconnect terminals towards the bottom of
the PCB. I/O numbers are clearly marked on the PCB.
The First two columns are for digital inputs (Volt Free) and the third column is for Analogue inputs

Initial Power up Guide
1. Ensure all I/O and supply connections have been completed and checked before proceeding.
2. Check all the DIL switches next to the LED’s are OFF (Towards Left side of the PCB)
3. Ensure 110/240V switch is selected correctly. Switch the mains supply on and connect the battery
leads, the unit will now start its power up sequence.
4. Observe the LED’s toward the centre of the PCB.
Green PWR LED should be illuminated indicating the presence of the system 5V.
Green WDOG LED will flash rapidly for 5 seconds upon power up whilst the unit checks for bootable
code. The LED will then blink every four seconds indicating a healthy heartbeat.
Red TX & RX LED’s will strobe whilst either the PSTN or GSM modem is set-up.
Green DCD LED will illuminate whilst PSTN or GSM modems are connected with a remote modem.
After power up and boot code is loading (WDOG LED flashing rapidly for 5 seconds) the display will
show the Multiform Start-up banner followed by the Site Name, time & date (This may be corrupt if no
configuration is loaded).
Communications with either a GSM or PSTN modem is checked. If no modem is found the unit will
display “Modem Error” for 5 seconds then revert to standard I/O display.
If a GSM modem is found the display will show “Searching” followed by “Registered” then again revert
to I/O display
A PSTN modem will show “Connected” followed by the I/O display.
The top line of the display indicates digital inputs 1-16 followed by the Mains & Battery status. The
bottom line displays scaled Analogue Input values scrolling every 4 seconds.
For Extended I/O units the second bank of 16 digital inputs is displayed (alternately with bank 1) every 4
seconds, with ‘#2’ being shown after the digital inputs to indicate the second bank. i.e. Inputs 17-32
The normal state for both Mains & Battery is indicated by a “1”, with Battery status followed by Mains.
Note: There is a small time delay of 4 seconds for the mains failed flag to change on power failure due
to voltage within the reservoir capacitor.

Configuration
System Tab
M20/M40 units are configured using the configuration tool supplied by Multiform Design.
Note: Communications with the M20/40 is controlled via the Outstation Id. Therefore the ID selected on
the configuration package must match that of the Outstation
If you are unsure of the outstation Site ID, upload and save the configuration as standard.
Options for setting the following items: - Site Name, Site ID, Dial Out Telephone Numbers, Model Type,
Time & Date and Engineer On Site Input selection.
Selecting the ‘Outstation Model’ will automatically select the correct communication options and
available I/O.
SMS Duty-Roster. Phone numbers, quantity of officers and day and time of changeover. (See SMS
Section, page 17, for more details).
‘Log start of day’. Set as required to enable daily totals to be calculated.
‘Outstation Callback’. Test function to cause the outstation to dial out to the first number on the dial out
list for testing purposes.
System Counters. Monitoring communication and outstation resets.
Once user defined data has been entered
Select ‘File’ and ‘Save As’ to save your configuration before proceeding.
