Read this first
Please read the following important safety instructions carefully
before using this scanner. Failure to observe these instructions may
result in personal injuries or damages to this scanner.
Important safety instructions
Do not place this scanner under direct sunlight or near heat
sources, such as in a closed car under sunlight or near a
stove. The outer casing of this scanner may become
deformed and the sophisticated sensors inside may become
damaged due to excessive heat.
Do not use this scanner near water, in the rain or allow any
liquid to get inside this product. Water and moisture may
cause damages to the electronic components and lead to
malfunctions.
Do not use this scanner in dusty environments. Dust grains
may cover this scanner and scratch the original to be
scanned. Clean the originals before scanning.
Do not use this scanner near strong electromagnetic
sources, such as a microwave oven or television. The
electromagnetic interference may cause this scanner to
malfunction.
Do not attempt to disassemble or modify this scanner.
There are no user-serviceable parts inside this scanner, and
unauthorized modifications will void your warranty.
Do not drop or apply shock/vibration to this scanner.
Strong impacts may damage the components inside.
Do not insert objects other than compatible memory cards
into the memory card slots of this scanner. The metal
contacts inside the slots can easily become damaged by
foreign objects.

This scanner contains a rechargeable built-in Li-Polymer
battery. The battery should only be charged via USB
connection to a PC. If the battery needs replacement, the
operation should only be performed by an authorized and
qualified service person. Do not attempt to replace the
battery yourself.
Keep this scanner away from small children and do not
insert any foreign objects into the openings of this scanner,
as the ports and sockets will become damaged and the
internal components may short-circuit and lead to
explosion or fire.
If there are strange odors or heat emitting from this scanner
or any signs of malfunction, disconnect the scanner and
contact your dealer for inspection or service.

Scanner accessories
You r IRISCardTM Anywhere 4 scanner is provided with the
following accessories. If there are any items missing or damaged,
contact your place of purchase immediately.
• 1 calibration card
• 1 USB cable
• 1 sensor cleaning swab
Parts of the scanner and their functions

Status indicator Indicates the operating status of the scanner. See
Indicators on page 7 for details.
Power indicator Indicates the power status of the scanner. See
Indicators on page 7 for details.
Power button
• Press and hold this button for 1 second to turn the
power on or off.
• Press this button to wake up the scanner when it is
in sleep mode.
Paper guide Slide the guide to adjust the feeding slot for smaller
originals and ensure proper alignment.
Feeding slot Insert an original into this slot to start scanning.

card slot
Accepts the following types of memory cards: SD, xD,
MMC and MS. See Supported memory card types
on page 16 for details.
USB socket For connecting a USB flash drive. See Inserting a
USB flash drive on page 13 for details.
Mini USB
socket
For connecting the scanner to a computer via the USB
cable. See Connecting to a computer on page 12 for
details.

Vents Dissipates heat inside the scanner. Do not block these
slots when using the scanner.

Indicators
Please see below for the lighting patterns of the indicators and their
meanings.
Power Status
Scanning current original. Please wait until the
process is complete before scanning another one.
• When the scanner is connected to a computer: the
battery is fully charged and the scanner is ready for
use.
• When the scanner is not connected: the scanner
power is on and the scanner is ready for use.
• The scanner is powered off.
• The battery is fully charged (when scanner power is
off and connected to a computer).
• Initializing system and memory devices. Please wait
until the process is complete before using the
scanner.
• Busy storing image file. Please wait until the
process is complete before scanning another
original.
Reading/writing data in the scanner memory or
storage devices.
• Paper jam. Please refer to page 20 to remove the
original.
• Calibration error. Retry the calibration following the
instructions in Calibrating the scanner on page 18.
Memory card full (free space below 1MB), card error,
card locked or file system not supported. Please use
another card, delete some files on the card, unlock the
card or re-format the card to the FAT16 or FAT32 file
system.
The battery power is low. Please charge the battery as
soon as possible.
