EXCELPrime is used to connect a solid, liquid and gas fired appliances,
including wood burning stoves, freestanding fireplaces, and furnaces to a pre-
fabricated metal or masonry chimney. EXCELPrime is intended for interior use
only.
Contact local building or fire officials about local restrictions and building
inspections in your area.
Always follow the wood burning stove manufacturer's installation instructions.
Keep these installation and operating instructions in a safe location for future
reference.

INSTALLATION NOTES
If you are planning to install a wood stove, we recommend that you:
1. Install the stove and stove pipe as described in the Installation Instructions
accompanying the stove. BE CERTAIN TO MAINTAIN THE REQUIRED
CLEARANCES TO COMBUSTIBLE CONSTRUCTION.
2. Keep your flue gases between 300° and 500°F. This will maximize
efficiency while minimizing condensation and creosote formation.
3. Do not burn sea driftwood and treated lumber.
4. Clearance to EXCELPrime can be reduced when combined with listed
EXCELPrime heat shields. Refer to heat shield instructions for details.
5. EXCELPrime is made of coated plain steel. Its durability is limited for coal
installation.
6. Have your chimney cleaned by a qualified chimney sweep. If you want to
clean your chimney yourself, then clean your chimney using a properly fitting
nylon or steel brush. Do not use a brush that will scratch the stainless steel
interior of the chimney. Use of an oversize brush may damage the chimney.
7. Do not expect chemical chimney cleaners to keep your stove pipe clean.
Their use does not negate the necessity of periodically inspecting and
cleaning your chimney.
8. After a chimney fire, do not use the stove again until your chimney and stove
pipe have been inspected by a qualified chimney sweep or Fire Department
Inspector.
9. Do not enclose this stove pipe. It must not pass through floors, attics,
closets, walls or ceilings.
10.EXCELPrime must not exceed 10 feet in length and a maximum of two 90
degrees elbow is permitted.
11. If you plan to connect EXCELPrime to a masonry chimney you should have
the chimney checked by a qualified chimney sweep. Masonry chimneys
should only be used if they are in good condition and meet local building
code.

STRAIGHT UP INSTALLATION
For most straight up installations the only
part required is an adjustable length
(SWA). The SWA adjusts to allow any
overall length from 40" to 68". The SWA
is packed in two pieces.
Pick up the section with the expanded top
and slide it into the section with the
shrunk bottom. Do not drop the length or
it may become stuck.
1. Set the adjustable length so that the
shrunk bottom fits into the flue collar of
the stove. Screw the pipe to the flue collar
with three 3/4” metal screws. The black
screws provided are self drilling and will
not normally need a pilot hole for steel
stove collars.
2. Slide the top length of the SWA up over the chimney pipe adapter at the
bottom of the chimney support. Connect it to the adapter with three 3/8’’
metal screws provided.
3. If the system is straight (i.e. no elbows), then it is not recommended to fasten
the slip joint in SWA to allow for expansion.
4. If you require additional height you may add lengths above or below the
adjustable length. Always install the shrunk end on the bottom. Screw two
lengths of EXCELPrime together with the 3/8’’ metal screws provided.
90° ELBOW INSTALLATION
When connecting EXCELPrime to a chimney at the wall, there are multiple
choices for 90° elbows (SW90, SW90C, SW90S & SWA90).
SW90 - 90°elbow
SW90C - Clean Out Elbow
SW90S - Slip Elbow
SWA90 - Adjustable Elbow
SW90
SW90C
SW90S
SWA90
Most 90° elbow installations only require an elbow and the adjustable length
(SWA). If the height from the top of the stove to the top of the elbow is less
than 48”, then you will require a shorter length and a slip section or the slip
elbow. Depending on the wall construction you may also require a short length
between the wall and the elbow to ensure safe clearances.

EXCELPRIME 4 Owner’s Manual
1. Assemble the adjustable
length (see instruction for
straight up installation).
2. Screw the 90° elbow to the
adjustable length using the
3/8” metal screws
provided.
3. Set the adjustable length
so that the shrunk bottom
fits into the flue collar of the
stove. Screw the pipe to
the flue collar with three
3/4” metal screws. The
black screws provided are
self drilling and will not
normally need a pilot hole
for steel stove collars.
4. Extend the adjustable length up until the 90° elbow reaches the chimney
pipe adapter. Screw the elbow to the adapter using the three 3/8” metal
screws provided.
5. Screw the two sections of the adjustable length together using at least one
3/8” metal screw provided.
MASONRY CHIMNEYS
Connecting to an existing masonry chimney with EXCELPrime requires a
masonry adapter (SWM).
To block off a vacant opening into a masonry chimney you can use the masonry
plug (SWMP). Follow step 1 below for installation.
1. Install the Masonry Adapter (SWM). Bend the tabs
outwards and press the Masonry Adapter firmly
into the existing thimble of the masonry chimney.
The tabs will secure it in place.
2. Insert a length of EXCELPrime into the opening of
the masonry adapter. The length should pass all
the way through the adapter and extend into the
flue of the masonry chimney. Secure the length in
place by screwing into the tabs on the masonry
adapter.

DAMPER INSTALLATION (UBD)
The damper (SWD) allows you to control the air drawn through the chimney
and controls your stove's
combustion.
When the handle is in the vertical
position, the damper is fully open,
allowing the maximum volume of
combustion gases to flow.
Rotating the handle restricts
combustion gas flow and slows the
combustion process in the stove.
Minimum setting is 20% open.
Rules to follow
•The damper must be installed in a
vertical run of EXCELPrime and never
on a horizontal run.
Installation
The SWD damper is installed like a normal
length of ULTRABlack.
1. Install a fixed section of EXCELPrime
onto the flue collar of the appliance and
secure using three 1/2" metal screws.
2. Install the SWD damper on this section
with the seam to the back, ensuring that
the handle is located to the right of the
chimney. Secure to the lower connector
using the three screws provided.
3. Complete the installation by following the instructions for either a vertical
chimney or a chimney with elbows.
Note: Plan the fixed and adjustable measurements that you will require in
advance. Adjustable or slip sections should always be installed above a SWD.
A slip section cannot be installed directly onto the SWD.
Barometric Damper Adapter
If adding a barometric damper to your system, the
Barometric Damper Adapter (SWBA) permits a
tee to connect to a barometric damper. Connect
the SWBA to the snout of the tee with the screws
provided and then connect barometric damper to
the opposite end of the SWBA.
