CO600 Coating Thickness Gauge
─ 1 ─
1. Overview
CO600 series coating thickness gauge is designed to determine the thickness
of a magnetically non-conductive coating on ferrous substrates, or the thickness
of an electrically non-conductive coating on non-magnetic metal substrates.
Standards: ISO 2178/2360/2808, ISO 19840, ASTM B244/B499/D1186/D1400,
BS3900-C5

4. Before First Use
1. Check the package according to the packing list.
2. Install battery: release the screw and remove the cover. Insert 2 AA batteries
and then fix the cover. Note that the battery should be removed when not in
use for long periods. Renew the battery if the indicator shows 20% or less.
3. For separate type, install the probe according to the diagram below. Note
that the probe may be inserted only when the gauge is OFF.

6. Measurement Procedure
1. Long press the On/Off button to turn the gauge on.
2. Check the specimen and select a suitable calibration method. Calibrate
accordingly and the latest calibration will be stored and applied as a rule.
3. Set upper or lower limit when necessary.
4. Set statistics, storage and adjust other settings when necessary.
5. Start measurement. Note that the probe should be put perpendicular to the
surface to be measured to minimize measurement error.
6. Turn off the gauge after measurement by long press the On/Off button.
7. Calibration
1. Types of calibration
1) Zero calibration: single point, use the zero plate directly.
2) 2 point calibration, smooth: suitable for coatings on smooth surface.
3) 2 point calibration, rough, method 1: recommended for sand- or shot-
blasted surfaces with roughness of less than 55-65 µm. Calibration
should be done directly on the blasted surface without coating.
4) 2 point calibration, rough, method 2: recommended for sand- or shot-
blasted surfaces with roughness of more than 55-65 µm. Calibration
should be done directly on the blasted surface without coating.
5) Factory calibration, can be reset by restoring factory setting.
Note: As to the selection of standard film, one that is slightly thicker than the
coating to be measured should be used for calibration. For example, for a
coating of about 80 µm, a standard film of 125 µm should be applied for
calibration.

2. Procedure of calibration
1) Click “Calibration”, select types needed, for example, “2-point calibration,
smooth”.
2) Put selected standard film on zero plate (other substrate may be used
according to calibration method) and measure the thickness.
3) If the result differs from that of the standard film, correct it using upward
or downward arrow, and then click “Next”.
4) Put the probe on the zero plate and measure the thickness.
5) Click “Zero” to zero the gauge.
6) When “2-point calibration, smooth, finished” appears on the screen, click
“OK”.
7) Calibration finished.
Note: It is recommended that the calibration be performed with blasted
substrate as support for standard films in case of: (1) thin substrates of less
than 0.8 mm (ferrous) or 0.3 mm (non-ferrous); (2) tubes or curved
substrates especially those with small diameters.
8. Upper/Lower Limit Setting
1. Click “Menu”.
2. Select Upper/Lower limit.
3. Select “On” or “Off”.
4. Select “Upper limit” or “Lower limit” and click “OK”.
5. Set the limit using upward or downward arrows. Note that the upper limit
should be larger than the lower limit.
6. Select “Save and Exit”, and then click “OK” to finish.

9. Statistics
Statistics is always running, and the analysis is based on the data since the last
selection of “Clear and start new statistics”. The results of statistics won’t loss
after turning off the gauge. However, only the last five measurement results can
be displayed.
1. Select “Menu” on the main screen, and then select “Statistics”.
2. Select “On” or “Off” to turn on or off the display of statistical results on the
top-left corner of the main screen.
3. Select “Clear” and then “Clear and start new statistics” to clear available
data and start new statistics.
10. Language, Volume, Screen Rotation and Restore
Factory Setting
1. Can all be adjusted using the “Menu” on main screen.
2. Shortcut for language: press the second button from left long.
3. Shortcut for volume: press the third button long.
4. Screen rotation: auto-rotation can be turn on or off.
5. Factory settings: Language (English), Unit (µm), Screen Rotation (On),
Volume (max), Brightness (max).
11. Notice
1. In case of contact with water, turn off the gauge, remove the battery
immediately and then dry the gauge properly.
2. Contamination like paint, dust and iron fillings etc. in the space between the
probe and the socket should be removed immediately to avoid locking.

3. Contaminations on the tip of the probe such as paint and dust etc. can be
removed by carefully applying a cutter blade.
4. The cable of the probe should be stored properly, and sharp bending should
be avoided.
