Adding 2 Drives to the C1150 Series Jukebox
ESD Precautions
The optical disk jukebox contains very sensitive electrical components. It is EXTREMELY IMPOR-
TANT that you follow the proper procedures for preventing ESD (Electrostatic Discharge). Use wrist-
grounding straps, anti-static mats, and anti-static work stations when removing and replacing the
major assemblies.
Tools Required
The following tools are needed:
• Torx driver with the following bits: T-10, T-15, T-20
A T-20W bit may be helpful, but is not necessary.
a. For a performance upgrade, install 32 magazine slots (C1155F/G/H)

C1150F/G/H (2 drives) 1 kit (2 drives) C1160F/G/H (4 drives)a
Caution
Failure to follow proper procedures could lead to intermittent
failures and/or premature hard failures in the disk controller
and mechanism.

Note
The “x” in the part numbers listed in the following parts tables
represents a number from “0” to “9” depending on the
revision of the part. For example, if the part is newly
released, the number will be “0”. The first time the part is
revised, the number increments to “1”; the second time the
part is revised, the number increments to“2”, and so on.
If you are unsure of the current part number, enter a “0” or a
“1” in place of the “x” when checking your parts database and
the current part number will be displayed.

Before You Begin
1. Look in the jukebox front "window" and make sure that there are no disks in any drive.
Use the control panel to eject any disk still in a drive
2. Bring the jukebox “down.”
Procedures for bringing this jukebox offline depend on the specific host system. Coordinate with
the system administrator to prepare this jukebox for the upgrade. This may involve “downing” the
host system also.
3. Remove power from the jukebox.
4. Disconnect the SCSI interface from the host.
Caution
Do NOT switch off power to the jukebox until you are sure the
SCSI bus is inactive. Switching off the jukebox when the
SCSI bus is active can cause data loss and/or indeterminate
bus states.
When doing this upgrade, be sure that disk cartridges are not
moved from their original slot locations. If you need to remove
the cartridges, record their SLOT LOCATIONS and
ORIENTATION so they can be replaced to their ORIGINAL
positions. Failure to follow this practice results in a serious
loss of file system integrity.

Installing the 2-Drive Upgrade
1. Remove the left, right and back panels. Refer to Figures 1 and 2.
Figure 1: Right-side panel access
a. Remove the T-20 screw that holds the bottom edge of the panel.
b. Lift panel up and out. (Internally, the panel rests on four retaining pins.)
c. Remove the left-side access panel by lifting it up and out. There is no screw on the bottom of
the left side panel.
Caution
Put on a grounding strap to work inside the outer shell of this
jukebox.

Installing the 2-Drive Upgrade
1. Remove current drive cables from the interposer PCA.
2. Remove the air baffle plate. Refer to Figure 3 for the correct location of the plate and of the 3
screws that must be removed. (You will need to use 2 of these screws to add the drive enclosures.).
Figure 3: Location of the air baffle plate
3. Verify that DIP swtiches on the top of the new drives are set to OFF, which is in the forward posi-
tion (toward the front of the drive.) Refer to Figure 4.
Note
There is 1 drive installed in each drive enclosure.
To add 2 drives, you will install drive enclosures where the air
baffle plate is currently installed.

4. Install drives in drive enclosures (1 drive in each enclosure).
a. Remove the top cable access plate of each drive enclosure by removing the 2 T-10 screws which
hold the plate onto the enclosure.
b. Insert the drive interface, SCSI and power cables (in that order) through each drive enclosure
opening (from outside to inside, front to back in the opening). Refer to Figure 5 for proper
placement.

c. Insert the single drive into the enclosure and position it near the cables at the rear, and in the
upper portion of the enclosure — do not mount the drive at this point — the drive interface
cable and clip must be mounted in the next step.
d. Connect the drive interface cable and clip.
Put the clip near the drive end of the cable. (Mounting the clip is shown separate from the drive
enclosure for clarity in Figure 6.)
Place the cable/drive connectors near each other. Remove the covering on the adhesive on the
back of the clip and press the clip into the position shown in Figure 7. Connect the drive inter-
face connector to the drive.
