ThismanualdescribestheinstallationandoperationoftheHotblast,HB1440E
wood heater. This heater meets the 2016 U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency’s emission limits for wood heaters sold after May 15, 2016. Under
specicEPAtestconditionsthisheaterhasbeenshowntodeliverheatata
rateof18,850–56,000BTU/hr.Thisheaterachievedaparticulateemissions
rateof0.39lb/mmBtuwhentestedtomethodCSAB415.1-10(*andanoverall
efciency of 62.6 %). The maximum overall heat output of this heater was
testedtobe89,000Btu/hr.
Thiswoodheaterhasamanufacturer-setminimumlowburnratethatmustnotbealtered.Itisagainstfederal
regulationstoalterthissettingorotherwiseoperatethiswoodheaterina mannerinconsistentwithoperating
instructionsinthismanual.
Theoperationofthiswoodheaterinamannerinconsistentwiththeowner’smanualwillvoidyouwarrantyand
isalsoagainstfederalregulations.
Thisheaterisdesignedtoburnnaturalwoodonly.Higherefcienciesandloweremissionsgenerallyresultwhen
burningairdriedseasonedhardwoods,ascomparedtosoftwoodsortogreenorfreshlycuthardwoods.

Unpacking And Preassemble
UNPACKING
1. Removeallpackagingfromthefurnace.
2. Removethesuppliedpartsfromthefurnace.
BRICK ALIGNMENT
Inspect for any damage. Ensure that the bricks and ash plug are positioned correctly and not broken (see
illustrationforproperbrickarrangement).
TOOLS AND MATERIALS NEEDED FOR INSTALLATION
Thefollowingisalistoftoolsandmaterialsneededtoinstallyourfurnace.
• 7/16”socketwrench.
• 5/16”socket(Bestifusingapowerdrillandasocketbit).
• Pairofpliersorchannel-locks.
• Powerdrillwithan1/8”drillbittoinstallsheetmetalscrewsintoconnectorpipe..
• Sheetmetalscrews.
• Non-combustibleoorprotectorasspeciedinthismanual.
• Allchimneyandchimneyconnectorcomponentsrequiredforyourparticularventinginstallation..
• Electricalwiringtoolsandsupplies.

Yourfurnacemustbeinstalledasshowninthismanualandincompliancewithalllocalandnationalcodes.
It is of the utmost importance that the clearances to combustible materials be strictly adhered to during
installationofthefurnace.Refertothetableanddiagramsbelowforminimumrequiredclearances.

Thefurnacemustbeplacedonsolidconcrete,solidmasonry,orwheninstalledonacombustibleoor,onaoor
protector.Theoorprotectorisrequiredtoprovideheat,liveember,andashprotectionandmustbeofanon-
combustible,continuoussolidsurfacetoprotectagainstinltrationofliveembersandash.Floorprotectionmust
haveandR-Valueofatleast2.8. Refertooorprotectormanufacturer’sinstructionsfor installationdirections.

Duct Work Installation
We strongly recommend that the hot air ductwork be installed by a home heating specialist. If doing the
installationyourself, before you decide which installation will best suityourneeds, consult a qualied heating
technicianandfollowhisrecommendationsastothesafestandmostefcientmethodofinstallation.
Thisfurnacecanbeinstalledinthreeways,asastandaloneunit,parallel,andinserieswithanexistingfurnace.
SUPPLY AIR (HOT AIR) PLENUM
Thewarm-airsupplyductshallbeconstructedofmetalinaccordancewithNFPA90B,2-1.1.Theplenumsinstalled
tothefurnaceshallbeconstructedofmetalinaccordancewithNFPA90B,2-1.3.
Wheninstallingthisfurnacethehotairplenumistohaveaminimumheightof24”(610mm)ifthetopoftherst
verticalsectionisnotushwiththetopofthersthorizontalsectionofductwork.Ifthetopoftheplenumisush
withthetopofthersthorizontalsectionofductworkthentheminiumheightis15”(381mm).
RETURN AIR (FRESH AIR)
Thereturn(fresh)airintakeonthefurnaceisontherearoftheunit.Theductworkmustbemechanicallyattached
totheunitorUFB908blowerboxwithsheetmetalscrewstoensureaproperoperation.
STAND ALONE INSTALLATION
Ifinstallingthisfurnaceasastandaloneunit,ensurealllocalcodesandallinstructionsinthismanualarefollowed,
includingclearancetocombustibles,oorprotectorspecicationsandsafetywarnings.

ASSEMBLY OF FURNACE
Yourfurnacerequiresthefollowingitemstobeassembledorinstalled
bytheserviceperson:
BlowersandBlowerControls
ElectricalConnections
1. Remove all parts from the unit (blowers, thermodisc, and all
wiring)andinspectfordamage,includingtherebrickassome
breakagecouldoccurduringshipment.
2. Installthe thermodisc on rear of furnacecabinetwith the two
screwsprovided.Mounttheconduitassemblyfromthejunction
boxtothethermostatbracket.Crimpthetwofemaleterminals
toeachofthewireleads.Plugthewirestothethermodisc.NOTE:
Itdoesnotmatterwhichofthetwowiresplugstowhichterminal
onthethermodisc.
3. Remove blowers from cartons. Remove junction box cover.
Attachclipnutsasingureshown.Installblower(s)andgasket(s
with1/4"-20x3/4"boltsasshown.
4. Wire right side blower rst (See wiring diagram) and replace
coveronjunctionboxonblower.
5. Wireleftblowersameasaboveandreplacecover.
SMOKE CURTAIN
Using two 1/4-20 x 1-1/4”
Carriage bolts, two smoke
curtain clips, and two nuts,
attach the smoke curtain in
placeabovethefuelfeeddoor
asshown.Afterinstallation,the
smoke curtain should swing
freelybackintothefurnace.
