INTRODUCTION
This device is designed for the fast detection of damp-
ness in wood and buildings, on construction sites, at
home, in the office or shop, etc.
The MC-500 allows moisture detections in wood down
to a depth of approximately 30 to 40 mm. This scanner
is even able to detect moisture behind ceramic tiles or
behind and under various floor or wall coverings! Simply
place device on top of the surface to be examined and
turn on – no injection into the object required!
OPERATION
Place the MC-500 onto the surface or slide it across
large areas to detect any presence of moisture or
leaks. For correct measurements, the bottom sensor
must be placed completely on the flat surface of the
material to be measured.
The device shows the
amount of moist in proportion
to the moisture content in the
material. The result is relative;
the difference between dry
and wet material is indicated
and the result should not be
treated as the exact moist
content in terms of weight.
The display value is
proportional and depends on
the density and the humidity
of the material to be measured
and can be interpreted as follows:

content Moisture rating
0 - 3 0-12% Dry: a varnish coating can be applied.
3 - 6 12-20% Air dry: if a varnish coating is to be
applied, ensure use varnish allowed for
moisture in the ground material.
6 - 11 20-30% Wind dry: finishing treatment only pos-
sible using agents with a high moisture
permeability. Whenever several layers
have to be applied, we recommend to
consider drying intervals.
> 11 > 30% Wet: finishing is only possible with a
paint system especially suitable for
wet wood.
NOTE! The density may be different for the materials.
The limits should be viewed as an indication.

This moisture scanner reacts to metal in the same
way as on humidity. In case there is a nail, armouring
or another metal object to be found inside or near the
material to be examined close to the measuring field
(plate on back side of device) the readout value will
be too high and cannot be used.
The moisture scanner MC-500 is not a high-precision
measuring device. We shall not assume any liability
for potential damage resulting from incorrect use
of the device or from the fact, that the scanner has
been used as a measuring instrument. For more
accurate measurements of wood and building ma-
terial it is recommended to use Exotek Instruments
MC-160SA or MC-380XCA.
Handle the device carefully and use in accordance
with mentioned specifications only.
ZERO ADJUSTMENT
The scanner does automatic zero when the bottom of the
unit is held into the air and away from any material while
turning on.
Keep hands away from the bottom sensor.
Pay attention to dry hands when using the scanner.
REFERENCE MEASURING
First find a dry area on a material and use it as a refe-
rence value, moisture rating - dry.
Now you can quickly detect higher humidity or leaks
as the measured value increases, either by moving
the device over this surface, or making point to point
measurements.

BATTERY
On the left upper corner, a battery level indicator is
visible. Replace battery if the bar indicator is flashing to
avoid wrong measuring values.
According to the regulations of the battery
Regulation of 2006/66EG §11, all batteries
must be returned free of charge to the trade
or the battery collection centers.
Scanner of batteries must not be disposed of
via household waste!
SAFETY
This device was designed and tested considering the
safety regulations for electronic devices. The trouble-
free operation can only be guaranteed if the usual
precautions and safety instructions in this manual are
observed if using the device.
Reliability of the device can only be guaranteed if the
device is not exposed to any other climatic conditions
as mentioned under “Technical Specifications”.
If the device is transported from a cold to a warm
environment, make sure that the device temperature
can adjust itself to the ambient temperature before
switching on. Device safety may be at risk if:
there are visible damages to the unit
the device is not working as specified
the device has been stored under unsuitable
conditions for a longer time.
In case of doubt, please return device to manufacturer for
repair or maintenance.

Bedienungsanleitung
BETRIEB
Messgut aufliegen.
Das Gerät zeigt die Menge der
Feuchte proportional zum
Feuchtigkeitsgehalt des
Materials. Das Ergebnis ist
relativ. Der angezeigte
Unterschied zwischen
trockenem und feuchtem
Material sollte nicht als
Wassergehalt in Gewichts-
prozent behandelt werden.
Der Anzeigewert ist proportional
und abhängig von der Dichte und der
Feuchtigkeit des zu messenden Materials und kann
wie nachfolgend interpretiert werden:
