while the upright seating position makes it comfortable for every age and rider.
2. How does it work?
An Ebikes4Africa e-bike is like a normal bicycle, but with an electric motor and a battery. The battery
provides electric energy to the motor to support the cyclist. As soon as the cyclist starts to pedal, the
motor starts to turn the back wheel at a level in accordance with the support level on the display.
Quick Start:
● Slide battery into holder and lock
● Switch on the display by pressing the on/off button on the handlebar. Keep pressed for at least
3 seconds
● Choose support level with arrow buttons
● You can now begin to cycle and the motor will provide support as soon as the rider starts to
pedal
The battery has a key to secure it to the frame. To remove the battery, make sure to unlock the key
first. The battery can be charged after every tour, as there is NO memory effect. The battery level is
indicated on the display (45Volt = empty; 54Volt = fully charged). The battery can stay on the frame
while charging.
Good to Know:
● Pulling the brakes will interrupt the motor and stop it from working.
● Do not pedal and brake at the same time!
3. Service and Maintenance
Before and after every ride make sure:
● Battery level is above 52 volts
● Brakes are working
● Back wheel and axle nuts are secured
● Batteries are in the correct position
● Maintain the right tyre pressure (0.6-1bar for Fatbikes, 2-3bar for MTBs)
● Pedals and cranks are secured
● Front wheel quick release are secured
● Stem and handlebars are secured

● Front and back wheel run freely without touching fork, brakes, chain or frame
● Check tyres for punctures and cuts
● In case of a flat tyre, use a hand pump or the CO2 tool to inflate the tyre as quickly as possible,
then turn it so the slime can seal the puncture (don't remove large thorns, they help to seal the
puncture). If the puncture persists, patch the puncture with a patch and rubber solution.
a. Li-Ion Battery
The Li-Ion battery is the most sensitive and expensive part of the e-bike. Special care needs to be
taken to guarantee a long life.
Safety Measures:
● Do not expose the battery to direct sun, high temperatures, fire or wet conditions
● Use the battery cover for protection against weather and outside elements
● Only use the given chargers (power butler or 220V charger) for the battery
● Do not charge anything other than your SunCycles battery with the given chargers. Connecting
other appliances to the charger will damage the charger and the appliances
● Do not disassemble the battery or the chargers & don’t let the battery drop
● Disconnect charger from battery when fully charged and the green light is on. Charging the
battery from completely empty takes 4-5 hours
● You can charge the battery after every ride
● The battery can stay on the frame while charging
● Do not charge the battery unattended
● Do not short-circuit the battery
● Charge the battery in a cool, dry environment
● Recharge the battery every three months if not used
b. Motor
The electric motor is inside the back hub and connected to the battery via cables. To remove the back
wheel (in case of a puncture), special care needs to be taken:
● Remove the cable ties to free the motor cable
● Make sure the cable coming out of the motor's axis is not being stressed
● Loosen the nuts on both sides
● Remove the back wheel

When remounting the back wheel, make sure that the washers are in the correct place and the torque
arms are tightened. The torque arms support the motor's torque into the frame, becoming essential for
safety.
Your brushless hub motor needs no oil or any service.
c. Display
The display screen shows all relevant parameters like speed, trip distance, battery level, and support
level. The assistance level can be adjusted via the UP/DOWN buttons.
The system can be programmed according to model specifications (SW-LCD
or KT-LCD), with details attached in the appendix.
ATTENTION: Changes in programming can lead to damage of the
system, which will forfeit the warranty. Increasing power will reduce
battery range and overall lifetime of the product.
d. Brakes
The brakes are the most important feature of a safe ride. Please make sure that both brakes are
working at all times. They need to be readjusted as soon as they wear off and the brake levers are
getting too easy/loose to pull. There are two adjustments methods for left and right brake pads. Make
sure the pads are not touching the brake disc when freewheeling.
When the brake pads are worn down completely, they need to be replaced. A strange sound while
braking and a loss of braking power are indicators that the pads are worn down and the thickness of
the pads must be checked.
e. Suspension
The suspension fork can be adjusted to fit the rider’s weight (preload turn on
top of the fork) and can be locked out in case the rider prefers not to have a
suspension effect. A few drops of oil on the diver tubes every few months will
keep the fork in good working condition.
Depending on the model, the rear suspension is either a single air shock
(FAT-E) or a double air shock (MTB-E) with lock out. The air pressure needs
to be adjusted to suit the rider’s weight and terrain, at max. 200psi with a
special shock pump. Make sure there is always enough air inside the shock
to prevent damage.
ATTENTION: The back suspension bearings need to be checked after every
ride and if loose, fasten to keep the mechanics working.

4. Troubleshooting
If the e-bike doesn't work:
● Make sure the support level is min. 1
● Make sure the battery is charged
● Make sure the battery is correctly mounted
● Make sure the PAS sensor is in the right position and not bend (the red sensor needs to be
1-4mm away from the turning magnet disc)
● Make sure all cables and connectors are fitted correctly
● Make sure the brakes are not pulled or defect
Display: If the display shows an error code, please refer to the display manuals at the end of this
manual.
PAS Sensor: Check if the sensor on the bottom bracket is still in the right position and the magnet
disc is moving past the sensor with a distance of max. 5 mm while pedaling
Battery: Is the battery charged? What does the battery indicator on the battery show? Is the battery
charging slot okay? Does the charging work/show first a red then a green light on the charger?
Motor: Are the motor cable and plug okay? Is the motor and the torque washer mount correctly? Does
the motor make strange sounds while freewheeling?
