Setting Up Your New PhotoCake IV
System
Your New System
Your PhotoCake IV machine
will come with:
•A touch screen monitor
•The PhotoCake controller
•A printer
•A merchandising kit, which
includes help sheets, a
power strip, samples of
edible ink and edible media,
and more!
Unboxing
Remove your monitor and
controller from their boxes.
Remove the printer from the
box, then carefully take off all
blue tape. Also remove any
padding from the printhead.
Connecting the System
For your convenience, the monitor,
controller, printer, and cables are all
labeled.
•The Blue #3 cable goes from the monitor (#3 side in
monitor) to the blue port on the controller
•The Pink C plug goes into the back of the monitor
•The Sea Foam plug goes into the back of the controller
•The Red #2 cable goes from the printer (#2 side in
printer) to the red port on the controller
•The Red A cable goes from the printer (A side in
printer) to the power strip
•The Blue B cable goes from the controller (B side in
controller) to the power strip
•Plug the power cable for the monitor into the power
strip
Please note: Always plug all three power cables
into the provided power strip. Do not plug
anything else into the strip.
Printer Maintenance
At the top of your printer, you will see a large sticker reminding you about
printer maintenance. These activities will help your printer to have a longer life.
Daily Maintenance
•Print every day. If you don’t print an image for a customer, be sure to do a color test Remember that color tests can
use standard printer paper. The steps are:
•From the main menu, select “Maintenance”
•Select “Color Test”
•Follow the on-screen instructions
•Leave the printer powered on. It will occasionally run minor maintenance when not in use
Weekly Maintenance
•Wipe the outer surface of your printer with a damp cloth. Allow it to air dry before using.
•Clean the printer rollers (located inside the printer cover and printer bed) with a damp cloth. Be sure that the printer
is off first and that you don’t use enough so much moisture that it drips inside the printer. Allow it to air dry before
using.
Printer Output Tray
Pull out the built-in output
tray and lift the flap.
Then attach the included
enhanced output tray with the
lifted flap going through the
hole.
Calibrating the Touch Screen
Attach the stylus from the
merchandising kit to the
corner of your touchscreen
monitor.
Then power on the controller
and monitor. You will be
prompted to touch and hold
different parts of the screen.
Be sure to use the stylus.
Installing Printer Ink*
Epson 4100/4105
•Press the right arrow until the
“Maintenance” icon, then press OK
•Press the down arrow until the “Ink
Cartridge Replacement” icon, then press
OK
•Press OK at the warning
•Lift the top of the printer and wait for the
printhead to stop moving
•Remove cartridge from its packaging, then
remove the yellow tab
•Each slot is clearly marked with which
color belongs there
•Insert the cartridge with the label facing
left, then gently press down until it clicks
•When finished, shut the top and press ok
•The printer will initialize the cartridges,
which may take a few minutes
Epson 2830/2850
•Press the right arrow until the “Settings”
icon, then press OK
•Press the right arrow until the
“Maintenance” icon, then press OK
•Press the right arrow until the “Ink
Cartridge Replacement” icon, then press
OK
•When the screen says, “Replace ink
cartridges”, lift the top of the printer, then
press the diamond shaped button
•Wait for the printhead to stop moving
•Remove cartridge from its packaging, then
remove the yellow tab
•Each slot is clearly marked with which
color belongs there
•Insert the cartridge with the label facing
left, then gently press down until it clicks
•When finished, shut the top and press ok
•The printer will initialize the cartridges,
which may take a few minutes
*These instructions will work with both the E and U models for these Epson printers. A sticker will be on your printer to remind you if
you have the E or U model. The color of the sticker will match the color on the appropriate ink cartridge packaging.
