1 Introduction
1.1 Validity
This document applies to the external storage system DAS-4 Eco in conjunction with SMA-
VIA appliances DMS 2400 and DLS 1600. It has been produced on the basis of software
version 1.0.0.
Pictures in this document may differ from the actual product.
1.2 Documents
Installation and Commissioning (this document)
The document entitled Installation and Commissioning describes installation, mounting,
connection, start-up and exchange of the different modules. General notes on the pro-
ductand technical data are additionally provided.
The target audience of this document is exclusively trained and authorized professionals
(installers).
1.3 Conventions
Various warning words and symbols indicate potential sources of danger.
DANGER
DANGER indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, will result
in death or serious injury.
WARNING
WARNING indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could
result in death or serious injury.
CAUTION
CAUTION indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could

2 Safety Instructions
Only use this device if it is technically in proper working order, to the intended purpose and
while keeping safety and potential dangers in mind.
Qualied Personnel
Installation, mounting, connection, commissioning and conguration of the unit may only
be carried out by qualied personnel. This also applies to the maintenance, testing and re-
pair, whereat the regulations of the DIN VDE 0701 series of standards (repair, modication
and inspection of electrical appliances) must be followed.
Regulations
The use of video and audio surveillance systems in general is strictly regulated. Inform
yourself about the applicable laws and regulations regarding data, working and environ-
mental protection before using the unit and ensure compliance with them.
System Components
Only use internal components that have been tested and approved by Dallmeier. Inappro-
priate internal components can cause malfunctions, damages and data loss and can result
in loss of warranty.
RAID System
Devices that are congured with a RAID system for redundant recording always must be
supplied with power via an uninterruptable power supply (UPS). A sudden voltage drop can
damage the RAID system.
Modications
Do not make any modications to the hardware or software that has not been tested and
approved by Dallmeier. Inappropriate modications can cause malfunctions, damages and
data loss and can result in loss of warranty.
Documentation
Carefully and completely read the documents included in delivery. Always observe the
contained instructions, notes and warnings.
Condensation Water
If the unit is brought from a cold to a warm environment, resulting condensation water
can cause malfunctions and damages. In this case wait (up to 8 hours) until the unit has
reached room temperature before commissioning.
Operating Conditions
Unfavourable operating conditions can shorten the life of the unit and can cause malfunc-
tions, damages and data loss and can result in loss of warranty. Observe the specications
given in the technical data, the operating condition requirements and the maintenance
instructions.
Shocks
Shocks can cause malfunctions and damages. The unit may not be moved while in ope-
ration.

Foreign Bodies
If objects or liquids get into the unit, immediately disconnect it from the power supply (pull
out the power plug). Contact the sales partner responsible for your area.
Burnt Smell
If you notice burnt smell or formation of smoke from the unit, immediately disconnect it from
the power supply (pull out the power plug). Contact the sales partner responsible for your
area.
Opening
The housing of the unit may only be opened by qualied personnel for inspection, mainte-
nance and repair.
Disposal
Disconnect the unit from the power supply. Remove all connected devices. Return the unit
to your respective sales partner.

3 General Notes
3.1 Scope of Delivery
Included in the standard scope of delivery is:
1 x DAS-4 Eco
1 – 4 HDDs (as ordered)
1 x SATA cable
1 x Power supply cable (to be connected to the recorder)
1 x Documentation Installation and Commissioning (CD)
The scope of delivery may differ depending on the ordered equipment or device variant.
The device’s range of functions depends on the ordered equipment or device variant and-
may therefore not correspond with this document’s content. Certain functions and features-
may require an activation that is subject to costs.
3.2 Transportation and Packaging
Store the original packaging for transportation at a later date. Dallmeier electronic is not
esponsible for damage resulting from unprofessional/improper transportation. The good
should only be shipped in their original packaging.
If the original packaging is no longer available, ensure that the packaging used sufciently
protects the unit against damage, moisture, heat and cold.
3.3 Proper Usage
The DAS-4 Eco is a user-friendly and economic storage expansion (JBOD).
The housing of the only 1 HU high device is capable of holding up to 4 SATA HDDs within
lockable slide-in units with a total capacity of max. 8 TB at present. They can be congu-
red for redundant RAID 1 recording via the device.
In case of a hard disk failure, the HDDs’ Easy-Change functionality allows for a quick
replacement of the hard disks from the front side of the device and therefore ensures
the highest degree of maintainability possible. Two redundant high performance fans
guarantee an optimal ventilation. Power is supplied directly via the 12 V DC output of the
device. An additional power supply unit is not necessary.

3.4 Performance Features
The DAS-4 Eco is especially characterised by the following functions and properties:
• 4 lockable slots for Dallmeier approved and authorised SATA HDDs
• No RAID (JBOD) or RAID 1 (conguration via recorder
• Easy-Change functionality in case of a HDD failure (no hot-plug, no hot-swap)
• 2 redundant high performance fans
• Power supply via recorder (12 V DC output)
• Data transfer via SATA extension interface
• Easy installation (plug & play)
• Practical handling
