VentilationRequirementsforProperOperationofyourCoyoteGrill
•Asimplewaytothinkofwhatisoccurringinsideyourgrillisthatwhenyourburnersareon,theyare
emittingaflamethatcreatestheheattocookyourfood.Thisheatmustexhaustfromthegrill,otherwise
youwouldeventuallyhaveaunitthatwouldnotonlybuildupimmenseheatbutalsoimmensepressure.
Thiscouldcauseseveredamagetonotonlythegrillbutanyoperatorsorpropertynearby.Withthatsaid,if
youhavewindcomingintothebackofyourunit,theproblemwillnotbewiththewindhittingyourflames
andcausingthemtopushtheflamedownward.Theproblemactuallylieswiththewindactingasablockfor
theexhaust,whichismainlyoutthebackofthehood(abovetherearpanelbutbelowthetopofthehood).
Thisblockageofexhaustiswhatstartstheproblems.
•Iftheislandisventilatedproperly(withaminimumof2ventsforcrossventilationandatleast20sqinon
eachvent)thenanyheatthatistrappedinsideduetowindshouldbeabletodissipateoutoftheisland
vents.However,iftheislandisnotventilatedproperlyandthewindiscomingfromtheback,thentheheat
willtrytoescapethroughtheeasiestexit,whichwillmostlikelybethroughthebottomofthegrillandfront
controlpanel.Thiscancausethecontrolpanelandknobstogethottothetouchandpossiblyevenburn
yourfingers,nottomentionthatitcanmeltallrubbergasketsonthevalvesanddamagetheignition
systemtowhereitwillneedfullreplacement.
•Ventilationandthevariableofyourmostcommonwinddirectionmustalwaysbeconsideredwhen
planningyouroutdoorcookingisland.Justthesameasyouwouldplanthelayoutandmeasureyourindoor
kitchen,youmustalsodothesamefortheoutdoorsbutyoucannotforgetaboutMotherNatureandthe
effectsshecanhaveonyouroutdoorcookingequipment.
oCoyoteWindGuards:Ifyoudorunintoasituationwhereyouwillhavewindcomingintotheback
oftheunit,Coyotedoessell"WindGuards"thathelpkeepyourgrilllfromoverheatingduetono
exhaustoccuringoutthebackofthegrill.OurWindGuardsshouldneverbeconsideredasa
guaranteedsolutiontothisproblem.Theyareonlyintendedtohelpthewinddivertupandover
thetopofthegrill.Ifthewindisstrong,thenyoucanstillhaveproblemswiththeheatbeing
trappedinthehood.OurWindGuardscanbepurchasedthroughanyofourauthorizeddealers.
Clearance:
•TONON‐COMBUSTIBLECONSTRUCTION:Fornon‐combustiblematerial,Coyotegrillscanbeplaced
directlyon,oradjacenttothenon‐combustiblematerial.ThehoodonaCoyotegrillpivotsmainlyon
thebody.Ifyouhaveawallorpartitionbehindtheunitthatwouldblockventilation,thenaminimum
of7"clearancefromthebackofthegrilltothewallisneededforthepurposeofventilation.Ifyoudo
nothaveawallorpartitionblockingtheventilationoftheunit,thenyouonlyneedanextra2"behind
theunitforthehoodtoopenfully.Ifyouwishtousetherotisserieoption,youwillwanttomakesure
thatyouleaveadequatespace(atleast6")oneachsideofthegrillsothatthemotorandrotisserie
spithandlewillhaveroomonthecounter,astheseextendpasttheoveralldimensionsofthegrill
body.
•CLEARANCETOCOMBUSTIBLECONSTRUCTION:Forcombustibleconstruction,youmusthaveatleast
24"clearancetoanycombustiblematerial(inanydirection)foraCoyoteWarrantytobeupheldand
forthesafetyofthehomeowner.YoucanNOTlocatethegrillunderanycombustiblematerialwithout
