Indications for Use / Intended Use

The BraunThermoScan® 3 Ear thermometer is intended for the

intermittent measurement and monitoring of human body

temperature by consumers in the home.

Warnings and Precautions

Please consult your physician if you see symptoms such as

unexplained irritability, vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration,

changes in appetite or activity, seizure, muscle pain,

shivering, sti neck, pain when urinating, etc. in spite of the

absence of fever.

Please consult your physician if the thermometer indicates

a fever or high fever.

This thermometer is not intended for pre-term babies or

small-for-gestational age newborn babies (birth to 4 weeks of

age). Pre-term is dened as babies born before 37 weeks of

gestation. Small-for-gestational-age is dened as a newborn

baby, born at 37 weeks or later, with a weight below the 10th

percentile for newborn babies of the same gestational age

Nursing mothers should not take a temperature measurement

on themselves or have their temperature measured by

another individual while or immediately after nursing a baby,

as nursing can aect body temperature.

English

This thermometer is not intended to interpret hypothermic

temperatures. If the device displays a temperature of 97.5°F

(36.4°C) or less, and the individual is exhibiting atypical

symptoms or behaviors, contact your doctor or health care

professional.

DO NOT allow children to take their temperature unattended

DO NOT modify this equipment without authorization of the

manufacturer.

People who are taking antibiotics, analgesics, or antipyretics

should not be assessed solely on temperature readings to

determine the severity of their illness.

This thermometer contains small parts that can be swallowed

or produce a choking hazard to children.

Keep out of reach of children.

Temperature elevation may signal a serious illness, especially

in adults who are old, frail, have a weakened immune system,

or neonates and infants. Please seek professional advice

immediately when there is a temperature elevation and

if you are taking temperature for individuals who are:

• Neonates and infants under 3 months (Consult your

physician immediately if the temperature exceeds 99.4 °F or

37.4 °C).

• Individuals having diabetes mellitus or a weakened immune

system (e.g., HIV positive, cancer chemotherapy, chronic

immunosuppressant treatment, splenectomy).

• Individuals who are bedridden (e.g., paraplegia, quadriplegia,

stroke, chronic illness, surgical recovery, nursing home patient,

stroke, chronic illness, recovering from surgery).

• A transplant recipient (e.g., liver, heart, lung, kidney).

Fever may be lower or even absent in elderly patients.

DO NOT expose the thermometer to temperature extremes

(below –13 °F / –25 °C or over 131 °F / 55 °C ) or excessive

humidity (> 95 % RH).

This thermometer must only be used with genuine Braun

ThermoScan® disposable lens lters. Other lens lters can

lead to inaccuracy.

To avoid inaccurate measurements ALWAYS use this

thermometer with a new, clean, disposable lens lter.

If the thermometer is accidentally used without a disposable

lens lter, clean the lens after use (see“Care and cleaning”).

Keep disposable lens lters out of reach of children.

This thermometer is intended for household use only.

This product is not intended to diagnose any disease but

is a useful screening tool for temperature.

Use of this thermometer is not intended as a substitute

for consultation with your physician.

This thermometer must stay in stable ambient (room)

temperature for 30 minutes before operating.

Audio temperature indicator

Thermometer will signal by beeps normal, fever, or high fever.

Temperature reading Number of beeps

Normal (99.3 °F or ≤37.4 °C) One beep: )

Fever (99.5 °F or ≥ 37.5°C) Two beeps, repeated: )) )) ))

High Fever (101.5 °F or ≥ 38.6 °C) Four beeps, repeated: )))) )))) ))))

Body temperature

Normal body temperature is a range. It varies by site of

measurement, and it tends to decrease with age. It also varies

from person to person and uctuates throughout the day.

Therefore, it is important to determine normal temperature ranges.

English

How to use your BraunThermoScan®

Before taking the temperature, make sure the ear is free from

obstructions or excess earwax.

DO NOT attempt to take the reading without a hygienic lens

lter on – the measuring sensor must be kept protected and

clean from earwax to give accurate readings.

Change the hygienic lens lter with each use to ensure

hygiene, to keep child safe from cross-contamination and to

ensure earwax residues on the disposable lens lter do not

impact accuracy of the reading.

1.To turn the thermometer on, push the“start”button (4).

During an internal self-check, the display

shows all segments.

The reading showed on the screen is the

last temperature taken.

Flashing symbol of lens lter will appear if

no lens lter is attached.Temperature can

be taken only if lens lter is mounted on

the probe.

The thermometer is ready to use after two

beeps are sounded and the non-ashing

ear icon appears.

2. Fit the probe (3) snugly into the ear canal,

aim the probe straight towards the

opposite ear or temple, then push the

“start”button (4).

One beep signals normal temperature.

Audio temperature indicator will trigger 2

consecutive beeps when the reading is

equal or higher to 99.5 °F (37.5 °C) and 4

beeps if the reading is equal or higher to

101.5 °F (38.6 °C). The result is shown on

the display (7).

3. Gently pull o the hygienic lens lter (2).

Do not use force in removing the

hygienic lens lter.

4. Put on a new, clean, hygienic lens lter by

snapping into position.

5. Place the protective cap on (1).

The BraunThermoScan® 3 Ear thermometer

turns o automatically after 60 seconds of

inactivity.The thermometer can be turned

o by pressing and holding the start button

for more than 5 seconds.

Hygienic lens lters

Use a clean disposable hygienic lens lter with each

measurement:

1. To ensure hygienic use

2. To protect your child from cross-contamination

3. To ensure earwax residues do not impact accuracy of

the reading

Earwax and dirt on the tip of the hygienic lens lter, even in

microscopic layer, can create an obstacle between the sensor

and the infrared heat emitted by the ear and impact the

accuracy of the measurement.

Temperature taking hints

•Replace the hygienic lens lter with every use to maintain

hygiene and accuracy.

English

•A measurement taken in the right ear may dier from the

measurement taken in the left ear. Therefore, always take

the temperature in the same ear.

•The ear must be free from obstructions or excess earwax

build-up to take an accurate reading.

•External factors may inuence ear temperatures, including

when an individual has:

– been lying on one ear or the other

– had their ears covered

– been exposed to very hot or very cold temperatures, or

– been recently swimming or bathing

In these cases, remove the individual from the situation

and wait 20 minutes prior to taking a temperature.

•If ear drops or other ear medications have been placed in

the ear canal of one ear, take the temperature in the

untreated ear.

Care and cleaning

The probe tip (5) is the most delicate part of the thermometer.

It has to be clean and intact to ensure accurate readings.

If the thermometer is accidentally used without a hygienic

lens lter, clean the probe tip as follows:

Very gently wipe the surface with a cotton

swab or soft cloth moistened with alcohol.

Do not use cleaners other than alcohol on

the probe tip. Use of other cleaners could

damage the tip.

Once the alcohol has dried completely, a

new hygienic lens lter can be put on and a temperature

measurement taken. If the probe tip is damaged, please

contact your authorized local service center.

Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the thermometer display and

product exterior. Do not use abrasive cleaners. Never

submerge this thermometer in water or any other liquid.
