WARNING!: Always use care in handling the magnet ring. Any interaction with a metallic object may cause
a pinch point that could result in personal injury.
Caution: Do not apply the Retro-fit Kit to Aluminum or Front Air Clutches. Verify clearance for all rotating
components before starting the vehicle. The Retro-fit kit may not fit on some pre 2007 model year vehicles.
1. Remove the fan. Disengage the clutch with air pressure and align the access
holes with the bolts inside the clutch. Once aligned engage the clutch by removing
the air pressure. Remove the fan clutch with a flex head ratchet and 5/16” hex bit.
Discard clutch mounting bolts and coupling.
2. Two carriage bolts with washers and wing nuts are necessary for compressing
the fan clutch. The bolts should be at least four inches long.
3. Alternately tighten the wing nuts until the fan clutch compresses by 1/16”.
Caution: Do not over compress or the clutch may be damaged.
4. Remove and discard all retainer plate screws, retainer plates and lining. If the
lining sticks, use a hammer and a screwdriver to free it by tapping on the dividing
cut in the lining
5. Inspect the two surfaces where the lining makes contact. These surfaces may
be cleaned with a ScotchBrite™ pad.
6. Install the new lining. If necessary tighten the carriage bolts until the lining
becomes flush with the outer edge of the clutch housing.
7. The magnet ring is shipped with the flux ring. Pull the magnet ring off the flux
ring. Set the flux ring aside as it will be used when the clutch is installed onto the
vehicle. Install the magnet ring with the magnets facing out. Install the torx flat
head screws (note the screw head fits in a countersunk hole so that the screw
head does not protrude above the surface of the magnet ring). Torque the screws
to 45 lb-in (5.1 Nm).
8. Take the updated clutch and remaining retro-fit kit components and proceed to
the Clutch Installation instructions.
CAUTION!: Be sure to keep the magnets facing up and avoid any contact of the
magnets with other objects. The magnets could be damaged by sharp contact
with other objects. Personal items that can be affected by a magnet such as cell
phones, credit cards and watches, could be damaged by the power of the
magnets.
