David & Judy Petersen & the BestRest Staff
The CyclePump is a compact, on-board 12-volt
inflator (compressor) that can be used for
roadside inflation of motorcycle tires. It can be
used to fill flat tires that have been repaired, or
for tires that just need a few more PSI.
Read & follow these instructions to prevent
personal injury, damage to the tire, the
motorcycle, or the CyclePump. Don’t proceed
until you’ve read and understand all safe
operating procedures. Don’t inflate longer than
five (5) minutes without checking tire pressure.
Refer to your motorcycle owner’s manual or
tire sidewall for inflation recommendations.
DANGER! Misuse can cause property damage
or personal injury. Always wear safety glasses
when inflating any tire!
FIRE HAZARD! Do not use near flammable
materials, liquids, or vapors.
ELECTRICAL HAZARD ! Do not connect to
any 110V or 220V power supply, battery
charger, or wall outlet; the CyclePump is not
designed to operate from those sources and
electrocution hazard may result.
Adventure Model
This CyclePump Adventure Model is specially
designed with expedition quality, reinforced
components. Special features include folding
legs, improved case design and air filtering, a
longer 18” air hose, two 8-ft power cords with
SAE fittings that can be connected in series for
emergency automotive applications, and
Velcro straps for ease of storage.
Powering options include a dual-purpose plug
that fits an automotive-style cigarette lighter or
BMW-style outlet; SAE connectors and a set of
fused battery clamps allow connection to
motorcycle or automotive battery terminals.
For BMW motorcycles, remove the round
plastic ring on the end of the power plug. Pull
the ring straight off the end and do not twist.
Replace the ring and it will fit your automotive
style cigarette lighter. Don’t lose the ring!
Your CyclePump has a molded SAE 2-prong
power plug, which can be attached to a 12-volt
SAE power outlet, if there’s one on your
motorcycle. SAE connectors are commonly
used on electric vests and 12-volt accessories.
When using the battery alligator clips connect
the red clamp to the positive (+) terminal;
connect the black clamp to a suitable ground.
The positive wire has a 15-amp fuse to prevent
accidental grounding or short circuits. You can
attach these clips to any 12V battery.
The CyclePump is not polarized; it will work
regardless of positive or negative connections.
It will work from any 12-volt DC automotive or
motorcycle type power supply or battery.
BestRest’s Warrantee and Return Policy can
be found on the back of this sheet.
READ THESE
INSTRUCTIONS !!!
1. Select a clean working area,
free from loose materials, dirt,
water, or other items that could
be sucked into the CyclePump. Keep it clean!
Don’t place the CyclePump in dirt or sand. Foreign
material shortens the life of the unit. Repairs or
cleaning foreign materials inside the case is NOT
covered under warranty. KEEP IT CLEAN !
2. Fold down the 4 legs on the bottom of the case.
These legs keep the aluminum case off the ground,
prevent ingestion of dirt or sand, and keep the unit
stable when operating.
In extreme conditions you can hold the unit in your
hand, hang it from a spoke, or leave it in the pouch to
prevent ingestion of dirt or sand.
3. Don’t allow the CyclePump to rest against spokes,
rims, or other motorcycle parts. Vibration may scratch
those surfaces.
4. Remove tire valve stem cap.
5. With the silver clip-on air chuck lever depressed,
firmly press the brass air chuck onto tire valve stem &
release the silver lever.
A - Depress lever
B - Press air chuck down
FIRMLY on the stem
C - Release lever while
holding the air chuck
down on the valve stem
7. Once the chuck is firmly pressed onto the valve
stem, release the lever. The chuck locks in place and
grips the threads on the valve stem. If you don’t get a
good tight air seal, repeat the process.
6. Attach the universal plug, or battery clamps or SAE
connector to the power cord.
7. Connect to a suitable 12-volt power supply and
slide switch ON. Moderate vibration and motor noise
is normal.
9. Inflate for 2-3 minutes.
10. Slide switch OFF.
11. Check the tire pressure using a good quality air
gauge. If using a BestRest EZAir in-line tire gauge it’s
not necessary to remove the air chuck in order to
check tire pressure. If you don’t have our gauge you
should get one; it makes tire management quick &
easy.
12. Remove air chuck.
13. Release excess air if tire pressure is too high.
14. Repeat steps as needed to increase pressure.
15. Replace valve stem cap.
16. Fold the legs, wrap the cords, and stow all the
CyclePump components in the red pouch.
Helpful Hints & More Product Info
Here’s the best method for storing the parts inside the
red pouch (yes, everything fits):
A. Coil air hose twice & hook the lever of the air chuck
on the hose. Use the Velcro strap to secure in place.
B. Wrap power cord neatly & stow alongside the case,
using the Velcro strap.
C. Place the case and power cord into a plastic bag
and slide the plastic bag into the red pouch.
D. Wrap the second power cord neatly and stow
alongside the case, next to the switch.
E. Last, place the power plug and alligator clips in the
top of the pouch, next to the coiled air hose. Fold the
flap & the Velcro will hold everything neatly together.
Inflation time is a function of tire size and desired
pressure. We recommend inflating your tires at least
once under controlled conditions. Develop your own
inflation chart for each tire. Front and rear tires
require different inflation periods due to their different
sizes. As a general rule-of-thumb, a front tire takes
about 2-3 minutes to inflate, a rear tire takes about 4-
5 minutes to inflate.
The CyclePump power cord is NOT provided with a
safety fuse. We recommend you connect to a fused
12-volt DC automotive outlet, rated at 10 – 15 amps.
The aluminum case may get HOT with extended
operation; allow it to cool if needed.
Keep the CyclePump clean & dry. If carried in wet
conditions put it in a plastic bag.
Don’t seal the case - it must draw air through the
corner seams & other openings.
Don’t disassemble or modify. The warranty is void if
internal paint seals are broken, if the screws or rivets
are removed, or if the unit has been modified.
Don’t remove the silver sticker that covers the grease
cup on the end of the case. No additional lubrication
is needed.
Don’t pull the power plug out of your dash or power
outlet (by pulling on the cord), or you’ll damage the
wires and internal connections. Instead, hold onto the
main body of the plug when you pull it free from the
receptacle.
Don’t let the CyclePump run unattended. Excess air
pressure could damage the tire, rim, or the
CyclePump.
Don’t run the CyclePump so long as to drain your
battery. On older motorcycles it’s a good idea to “idle”
the engine. On modern motorcycles with a good
battery and charging system it’s not necessary to run
the engine when the CyclePump is operating.
Regularly inspect the aluminum case, air hose, air
chuck, electrical cords, and electrical plugs for
missing parts, wear, fatigue, or other signs of failure.
Remove the CyclePump from service until items are
repaired.
The nylon bushings on both sides of the switch
prevent damage to the switch if the unit is dropped on
a hard surface. Don’t remove them.
The CyclePump is rated to inflate tires to pressures
exceeding 100 PSI. High-pressure applications
require longer pumping periods and may eventually
shorten the unit’s service life.
BMW CANbus Systems
Some BMW motorcycles, including the R1200GS and
K1200LT, use a computerized electronic "CANbus"
wiring system. This system monitors and limits the
amperage (current) of the accessory outlet to
approximately 5 amps.
The CyclePump requires 7-10 amps to operate
effectively. When you plug the CyclePump into a
CANbus equipped accessory outlet the CANbus
system will automatically shut down the circuit and the
CyclePump will stop working. This is not the fault of
the CyclePump; instead it's a design feature by BMW.
If you have a CANbus equipped BMW motorcycle, use
the CyclePump’s alligator clips to obtain 12 volt power
directly from the motorcycle battery terminals.
