The Baxi Ecogen™Dual Energy System

ECOGEN™

Introduction to Baxi

Innovators in heating technology

For over 150 years, Baxi has led the way with new and

pioneering heating solutions. We are proud that we still

manufacture boilers in the UK, close to the site where

Richard Baxendale first established the business, in Preston,

Lancashire.

Today, our dedication to innovation is greater than ever as we develop new ways to heat

homes. We are committed to delivering sustainable heating and hot water solutions that

minimise energy usage, cut carbon emissions and deliver maximum value for you and your

customers.

Above all, we want to be at the heart of the home, bring warmth to people’s lives and

protect the planet for future generations.

Here are just some of the many heating solutions we offer that can be tailored to suit

your needs:

installations generating electricity.

A step change in the right direction.

Baxi Ecogen offers greater efficiency than the

combination of a condensing boiler for heat and

power from an electricity supplier. That's because,

unlike a power station, it makes use of the excess

heat from electrical generation to provide central

heating and hot water. Furthermore, it generates

electricity locally, eliminating transmission losses.

And that’s only the start. Baxi Ecogen also

generates electricity at times of peak demand so it

The Baxi Ecogen is a logical, practical and familiar

overview on how inner workings of the Baxi Ecogen. For a more

detailed explanation, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Electrical generation

For electricity generation, the Baxi Ecogen uses a

free piston Stirling engine. This engine is heated

by burning gas. The helium working fluid expands

and contracts to move a piston up and down. This

piston travels between a copper coil, generating

up to 1kW of electricity at 50Hz single phase.

Electrical connection

The Baxi Ecogen uses a single cable connection

for its own electricity consumption and for

?KNA?=>HALNKRE@AO=PSKS=UOQLLHU+K

additional wiring is required for electrical output

and the Baxi Ecogen can be connected to the

existing domestic electricity circuit.

While every home is different, it’s surprising just

DKSOEIEH=NLAKLHAONKQPEJAO=NA&JKPDANSKN@O

daily trends for heating and electricity demand

are well synchronised making it easy to identify

when peak electricity is required. And as the Baxi

Ecogen only generates electricity, heating and hot

water when there is a demand it’s easy to see why

switching makes such financial sense.

Smart operation

The operating sequence of the Baxi Ecogen is

more sophisticated than a regular boiler. At start

up, a regular boiler will operate at the maximum

heat output and then progressively reduce the

output to match the heat demand. Baxi Ecogen

does the opposite.

At start up the Baxi Ecogen starts the Stirling

AJCEJABENOPG4=TE"?KCAJ?KJOP=JPHU

monitors the system temperatures and, if

required, the supplementary will also operate.

This gives opportunity for the Stirling engine

alone to fulfill low heat demands, or keep the

to maximise electrical generation.

A range of accessories is available to provide

room, outdoor and hot water load compensation

for optimum efficiency and comfort. See page 11

for more information.
