Good Working Practices/Safety

The following suggestions will enable you to observe good working practices, keep yourself and fellow workers

safe and maintain your tools and equipment in good working order.

WARNING!! KEEP TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT OUT OF THE REACH OF YOUNG

CHILDREN

Electrical

• Check that the mains power supply is earthed.

• Regularly check the mains lead and plug for damage.

• Ensure that a fuse of the correct amperage is fitted to

the plug.

• Ensure that any extension lead used is correctly rated

to suit the machine or power tool.

• Ensure that the power lead and any extension lead is

kept clear of the blades or other sharp obstacles.

• Do not use electrical machines or power tools in wet

or damp areas or locations.

• If a replacement mains plug is fitted at any time this

must be of the appropriate size and fitted with the

correct size of fuse.

General

• Mount the machine on a flat level surface. Secure the

machine to the surface where applicable.

• Always use machines or power tools in an uncluttered

area.To reduce the risk of accidents, avoid leaving

materials or other items within the working area and

allow clear access to all machine parts and controls.

• Clean machines by wiping with a damp soapy cloth.

Do not use solvents or cleaners that may damage

plastic parts or painted/coated surfaces. Keep water

and solvents away from all electrical components, leads

and plugs.

• When storing or leaving tools for any length of time,

spray bare metal surfaces with Axminster XMP

protective spray to minimise surface corrosion.

• Always isolate machines and power tools from the

power supply when not in use or when changing parts,

General Instructions for 230V Machines

cutters and blades or when making any adjustments.

• Before using any machine or power tool, ensure that

all locking-nuts, chucks etc, are tightened and secure.

Check that all loose keys, spanners and other tools have

been removed.

• Always check that the correct machining or cutting

speed has been selected.

• Do not operate machinery or power tools when tired

or under the influence of alcohol, drugs or certain

medicines.

• Always ensure that long hair is tied back or retained

by a band, hat or safety helmet. Remove all loose

jewellery to prevent it from catching in rotating parts

of the machine.

WHEN USING MACHINES ALWAYS WEAR SUITABLE EYE PROTECTION,

EAR DEFENDERS AND DUST OR FUME INHALATION PROTECTION.

WARNING!! KEEP TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT OUT OF THE REACH OF

CHILDREN, UNLESS THEY ARE UNDER SUPERVISION.

Specific Safety Instructions for Bandsaws

• Use only the correct size of blade for the machine.

Ensure that the blade is sharp and that the blade

support clearances, blade tension and tracking are all

correct. Blunt and/or in-correctly set blades require

more force and make control of the work more

difficult, leading to the possibility of accidents.

• Ensure that the blade guard and top bearing

assembly is as close to the top of the work as possible.

This will both support the blade correctly and ensure

that minimum amount of blade is exposed.

• Ensure that the table and fence, if used, are fully

tightened and cannot move under load.

• Push sticks or push pads should always be used when

cutting wood on a bandsaw. If necessary, one push

stick should be used to push the wood through the

blade and another used to hold the timber up against

the fence.

• Ensure that the blade has completely stopped before

removing small scraps of wood from the table.

• Only saw timber which is lying flat on the table; work

which is curved in the vertical plane should be fully

supported along its length in a suitable jig.

• When tight curves are being cut there is a risk of the

blade jamming in the slot in the timber. Use a narrow

blade when cutting tight curves.

Assembly Instructions

Loosely assemble the stand, using eight M6 x 16mm bolts, nuts and washers. Place the stand flat on the floor,

check that it is standing square and then tighten up all the nuts.

With the help of a second person and/or suitable lifting equipment, lift the saw onto the stand, line up the holes

in the base with the holes in the stand and secure with eight M8 x 16mm bolts, nuts and washers.

Remove the insert (A) and pin (B) from the table and slide the table into position, being careful not to damage

the blade on the edge of slot in the table.

Assembly Instructions

Rotate the table through ˚ and lower into position whilst at the same time feeding the two securing bolts

through the holes in the mounting on the top of the body. Secure the table with the two plastic thumbnuts then

replace the insert and the pin.

Fit the fence mounting rail (C) to the front edge of the table using M6 x 20mm bolts and spring washers and the

fence support rail (D) to the rear edge with two M6 x16mm socket head screws and washers.

Fit the fence assembly (E) to the mounting rail, clamp it in position and measure the distance from the face of the

fence to the edge of the mitre guide slot at both front and back of the table. If necessary, adjust the angle

between the fence extrusion and the body of the fence by following these steps below:

1. Clamp down the fence by pushing the locking lever down.

2. Remove the four rubber grommets (F) covering the securing screws from the fence.

3. Using a 5mm Hex key loosen the four M6 socket head screws.

4. Adjust the fence until it is aligned with the mitre slot. Re-tighten the socket head screws.

(DOT NOT OVERTIGHTEN) then replace the rubber grommets.
