Safety Notices
Caution
A CAUTION notice denotes a hazard. It calls attention to operating procedure, practice, or
the like that, if not correctly performed or adhered to, could result in damage to the product or
loss of important data. Do not proceed beyond a CAUTION notice until the indicated conditions
are fully understood and met.
Warning
A WARNING notice denotes a hazard. It calls attention to an operating procedure, practice,
or the like that, if not correctly performed or adhered to, could result in personal injury or death.
Do not proceed beyond a WARNING notice until the indicated conditions are fully understood

Components and Connection Overview
1. Box Content – EMScanner
1 Scanner board
EMScannerR
2 Adapter
The adapter controls the EMScanner
3 RF SMA to type N
coaxial cable
It is referred as the RF cable in this
manual. It connects the scanner to the
spectrum analyser and has a SMA
connector for the scanner and a N
connector for the spectrum analyzer 50
ohm input port. It transmits RF output of
the scanner to the spectrum analyser.
4 Micro-D control
cable
It connects the adapter to the scanner to
enable control of the EMSCAN’s patented
scanner’s switched probes and to power
the scanner.
5 USB Cable
It connects the PC (laptop or desktop) to
the adaptor. The USB Cable provided with
the system has ferrites on both ends of the
cable
6 SMB-BNC Trigger
Cable
It connects the adaptor to the spectrum
analyser
Required Components (Supplied by user)
1. Spectrum Analyzer: It must include the necessary options to work with the EMScanner
(see Supported Spectrum Analysers). It measures the radio frequency (RF) signal
received from the scanner, generated by the very-near-field emissions of an adjacent
activated PCB and it outputs the data to the PC.
2. PC (Laptop / Desktop): It runs the EMScanner software and receives data, which it can
display and manipulate immediately or store for future data presentation. It must
support a LAN connection to a network or to the EMScanner.

Installation and Hardware Setup
1. Install latest version of Keysight IO
Go to www.keysight.com and search for “IO Libraries Suite” or click here
to open the website to download the latest version. On the website click
on the Download button and follow the steps.
2. Install the software application
Install the EMViewer software by clicking on the Setup application icon.
The application should be installed on the C: drive.
EMViewer can be downloaded from the Products tab at
www.yictechnologies.com
3. Setup
Connect the PC, scanner and spectrum analyser as per the diagram below.
If the spectrum analyser has multiple trigger ports, always connect to Trigger 1 IN.

Connections:
RF Connection: Connect the SMA side of the cable to the unit RF OUT and the N
Type side to the Spectrum Analyzer RF Input.
Trigger Connection: Connect the SMB connector to the Trigger output and the
BNC connector to the external trigger port on the rear panel of the spectrum
analyser.
USB Connection: Connect the unit to a PC using the USB cable.

Establish A Connection
1. Install latest version of IO Libraries Suite from Keysight website: www.keysight.com
2. Install the EMViewer software, the EMViewer can be found at
www.yictechnologies.com
Install the EMViewer software by clicking on the Setup application icon. The
application should always be installed on the C: drive.
Note: vc_redist.x86 is a USB driver needed to establish connection with the
EMScanneR. In some cases, the driver will not be installed automatically. In this
case, it will need to be installed manually. A copy of the USB driver will be in:
…\Program Files (x86)\YIC Technologies\EMViewer\Adapter USB Driver
Right click on EMViewer.inf - > Install.
3. Connect PC, scanner, adapter and spectrum analyzer as per the diagram below. If
you are using Ethernet between the PC and the spectrum analyzer, use a crossover
Ethernet cable.
If the spectrum analyzer has multiple trigger ports, always connect to Trigger 1 IN.
Note the Spectrum Analyzer MUST be visible on Keysight IO Libraries Suites “Connection
Expert”. Refers to Keysight Connection Expert help and support.
LED
LED light shows three stages:
Red: Boot mode (this stage is fast; you may not even notice it)
Orange: Initiation mode (checking firmware)
Green: User mode (connected to the EMViewer and ready)

Performing a Scan
There are three scan types:
Spectral/Spatial Scan: measures the magnetic field strength of radiated
electromagnetic emissions from an object as a function of both frequency and position
on the PCB. It collects a series of Spatial Scans over the entire frequency range of
interest as opposed to a Spatial Scan (which gathers data at single frequency) or a
Spectral Scan (which saves only the composite maximum data set over the scan area).
Spectral Scan: measures and displays the maximum amplitude vs. frequency of the
magnetic field strength over the scanned area.

8
Spatial Scan: measures the magnetic field of radiated electromagnetic emissions from
the DUT at a single frequency as a function of position. It can be a single scan or
interleaved scan.
Interleaved Scan is meant to overcome the limitations of the probe polarizations. By
measuring a DUT twice with a small physical shift between the two scans this blind
spot can be eliminated.
Menu Bar
Menu Bar is shown below. It allows to start a project node, to select a scan type, to start a
single scan, to scan continuously, and to stop a scan, as well as to specify scan settings.
Add Spectral/Spatial Scan Node
Click the Spectral/Spatial Scan button to setup a combined Spectral/Spatial scan.

9
Add Spectral Scan Node
Click the Spectral Scan Node button to setup a Spectral only scan.
Add Spatial Scan Node
Click the Spatial Scan Node button to setup a Spatial only scan.
Node Setting
You can set and change the Scan parameters from the setting window:

10
Scan Setting Tab
1. Center Frequency Supported range is 150KHz to 8GHz
2. RBW (Resolution Bandwidth): It is set by default at 122 kHz and can be reduced to the
lowest level allowed by the spectrum analyzer. Decreasing the bandwidth will increase
the sensitivity; the scan will however take more time to complete.
3. Interleaved Scan: This scan is meant to overcome the limitations of the probe
polarizations. By measuring a DUT twice with a small physical shift between the two
scans, blind spots can be eliminated.
4. Control Level: (For EMScannerR Only ) Select resolution level from 7.50 mm or Level
1 to 0.06 mm or Level 8.
Physical 7.50 mm With Interpolation
Effective 0.12 mm No Interpolation
5. Measure Peak: It activates the peak marking feature whereby peaks are rescanned at
a tighter bandwidth in order to accurately measure the frequency as long as the peak’s
value is 5 dB above the average noise floor of the scan. By default the maximum
number of peaks is set to 10. The maximum number peaks that can be measured is
30.
