Xandemistheownerofvariousintellectualpropertyandtechnologyrightsassociateditssystems,including

patent,copyright,tradesecret,andtrademarkrights.Exceptfortherightsexpresslygrantedherein,Xandemdoes

nottransfertoyouoranyotherenduseranyofXandem’stechnologyorotherintellectualpropertyortechnology

rights.Allright,title,andinterestinandtoXandem’stechnologyandintellectualpropertywillremainsolely

withXandem.Youagreethatyouwillnot,directlyorindirectly,reverseengineer,decompile,disassemble,or

otherwiseattempttoderivesourcecodeorothertradesecretsfromXandem’stechnology.



Limitations of Alarm Sensing Equipment

XandemTomographicMotionDetectionequipmentshouldbetestedperiodicallytoensureproperoperation.The

product,ifusedproperly,mayprovidealertofphysicalintrusionandsimilarenvironmentalchanges.However,

Xandemisnotaninsurer,andtheequipmentisnotasubstituteforinsurancenorisitaguaranteethatlossfrom

physicalintrusionwillbeprevented.Usersshouldprotectthemselvesfromriskoflosswithalladditional

availablemeans,includingproperinsurance.Xandemmakesnorepresentationthatthisproductcannotbe

compromisedorcircumvented,orthatitwillprovideanadequatesensing,orthatitwillpreventanyinjuries,

propertydamage,orotherlosses.Likeanyalarmproduct,itmaybebypassed,itissubjecttocompromise,andit

mayfailtowarnforavarietyofreasons,including,butnotlimitedto:improperinstallationorpositioning;

impropermaintenance;tampering;deadorimproperlyinstalledbatteries;sensinglimitations;component

failures;receivers;intrusionsoutsideoftheproduct’sdesignedrange,andavarietyofotherenvironmental

conditions.



Warranty

Xandemwarrantsthattheequipmentwill,for365daysafterdeliverytoyou,performinsubstantialconformance

withthisUserGuide.Yoursoleandexclusiveremedyforthebreachofthiswarrantyistoreturntheequipment,

atXandem’sexpense,toXandemandXandemwill,atitsoption,repairorreplacetheequipmentandreturnitto

you,atXandem’sexpense.If,inthesoleopinionofXandemtheforegoingremedyisnotfeasible,thenXandem

willcredityouforthepurchasepriceoftheaffectedequipment,lessitsdepreciatedvalue,calculatedusinga

straightlinemethodofdepreciationandbasedonausefullifeoffive(5)years.Priortoreturningequipmentfora

warrantyadjustment,youmustfirstcontactXandemforinstructionsandreceiveaReturnMaterialAuthorization

number(“RMA”).DocumentationaccompanyingyourreturnedequipmentmustincludetheRMA,original

invoicenumber,indicationofthequantityofreturnedproductsandadescriptionoftheallegeddefect.Products

returnedhereundermustbeshipped,transportationprepaid,atyourrisk,bythemosteconomicalmethodof

shipment.Shippingcostswillbecreditedonlyonequipmentthatwasnotinaworkingconditionpursuanttothis

warranty.Xandemwillnotpayforexcesstransportationcostsresultingfromtheuseofanythingotherthanthe

mosteconomicalcarrier.InternationalshipmentsreturnedthatXandemreturnstoyouafterrepairor



replacementwillbeshippedonDDUPortofEntry(INCOTERMS).

FCC Compliance



Thisdevicecomplieswithpart15oftheFCCRules.Operationissubjecttothefollowingtwoconditions:(1)

Thisdevicemaynotcauseharmfulinterference,and(2)thisdevicemustacceptanyinterferencereceived,

includinginterferencethatmaycauseundesiredoperation.Changesormodificationstothishardwarenot

expresslyapprovedbyXandemcouldvoidtheuser’sauthoritytooperatetheequipment.

ThisequipmenthasbeentestedandfoundtocomplywiththelimitsforaClassBdigitaldevice,pursuanttopart

15oftheFCCRules.Theselimitsaredesignedtoprovidereasonableprotectionagainstharmfulinterferenceina

residentialinstallation.Thisequipmentgenerates,usesandcanradiateradiofrequencyenergyand,ifnot

installedandusedinaccordancewiththeinstructions,maycauseharmfulinterferencetoradiocommunications.

However,thereisnoguaranteethatinterferencewillnotoccurinaparticularinstallation.Ifthisequipmentdoes

causeharmfulinterferencetoradioortelevisionreception,whichcanbedeterminedbyturningtheequipmentoff

INTRODUCTION

CongratulationsonpurchasingyourXandemTomographicMotionDetection(TMD)kit!Thisdocument

providesdetailedtechnicalinformationandwillguideyouthroughtheprocessofinstallingand

configuringyoursystem.



AXandemTMDsystemismadeupoftwokindsofdevices.Thenodesarethedevicesthatsurroundthe

areawheremotionistobesensed.Thesenodesarenotactuallysensorsbecauseeachonecannotsense

anythingbyitselftheyonlyworkintandemwithothernodes.Themorenodesyouhave,themorearea

youcancoverpersystem.



Theprocessingunit(PU)isthesecondkindofdevicewhichactsasagatewayforthemotiondetection

signal.Ithastwonormallyclosedcontactsformotionandtroubletriggeringthatcanbeusedtoeasily

integratetheTMDkitwithothersystems,asshowninFigure1.WhentheTMDsystemdetectsmotion

withintheareasurroundedbynodes,orwhenatroublewiththesystemisdetected,anormallyclosed

relayontheprocessingunitisopened.Thisisastandardwayinwhichmostsecurityandautomation

panelequipmentistriggered.



INSTALLATION



Follow the Do’s and Don’ts of Xandem TMD



DO:

●DotestusingaTMDdemokitbeforepermanentinstallation.TheTMDdemokitispowered

bybatteriesandenablesfasttestinginvariousenvironments.Testingwiththedemokitwillsave

youtimeandhelpyouavoidinstallationproblems.

●Doplaceallnodeswithinrangeofeachother.Detectionperformanceismaximizedwhenall

nodesarewithinwirelesstransmissiondistanceofeachother.

●DoplacethePUwithinrangeofallnodes.ThePUmustbeabletocommunicatewithallnodes

inthenetwork.Insomecases,thismayrequireplacingthePUneartheareabeingsensedbythe

nodesandrunningalongersignalwireorwirelessrepeaterfromthePUtothepanel.

●Doplacenodes0.51.0metersofftheground.Nodesshouldbeplacedatapproximatelytorso

levelofahumanbodysothatdetectionperformanceisoptimal.

●Domountnodessecurelyonsturdystructures.Ifanodefalls,shifts,ormoves,itmayleadtoa

falsetrigger.Makesuretosecurethenodesfirmlytosomethingthatwillnotmove.

●Doplacenodesontheinteriorofthedetectionareawalls.Whentheareatobesensedis

surroundedbywalls,installthenodesontheinteriorsideofthewallstomaximizedetectionand

minimizefalsetriggering.

●Dotestperimetersensitivity.Walkormovevehiclesaroundtheoutsideoftheareatomakesure

thethresholdisnotsetsolowthatmotionoutsidetheperimetercausesfalsetriggering.

●Dousebatterypacksduringconfigurationandtesting.Itisrecommendedtotestanareausing

portablebatterypowerbeforehardwiringaninstallation.Thiswillensurethatthedetectionis

successfulbeforecommittingtoawiredinstallation.

●Dosetsensitivitythresholdsashighaspossible.Toavoidfalsealarms,trysettingthethreshold

atahighvalueuponinstallation.Testthesystem,andifit’snotsensitiveenough,decreasethe

thresholduntilitis.It’sbettertoapproachtheoptimumthresholdfromhigherthresholds,and

workyourwaytolowervaluestoavoidfalsetriggering.



DON’T:

●Don’tinstallnodesonthegroundoragainstmetal.Thiswillseverelylimitsensing

performanceandcommunicationrangeofyourTMDsystem.Placenodesatleast.5metersfrom

thegroundanddonotmounttometalsurfaces.

●Don’tinstallthesensingsystemaroundtreesorfoliage.Movingbranchesandleavescancause

falsetriggeringiftheyarewithinornearthenetworkarea.Thisisespeciallytruewhentheareais

open(notenclosedbydensewallslikebrick,concrete,masonry).

●Don’tinstallnodestoohighfromtheground.Placingnodestoohighwillraisethesensing

planeandreducesensitivity.EXCEPTION:Ifdeployingthenodesinathreedimensional

configuration,thisrulecanbeignoredaslongaslinksfromnodetonodecrossthroughtheareato

besensed.

●Don’tplacenodesaroundornearabruptwaterflows.Appliancessuchasdishwashers,toilets,

icemakers,andwashingmachinesmaycausefalsetriggeringiftheyabruptlydrainorloadwater.

Largewaterpipeswithabruptstreamsmayalsocauseafalsetriggerunlesstheyaremadeofmetal

whichnaturallyblocksthesensingfromthemovingwater.

●Don’tinstallnodesonwindowsills.Placingthenodestooclosetowindowsmaycausethe

systemtobesensitivetomotionoutside.

●Don’tinstallthePUtoofarfromthenodes.ThePUhastoremaininalocationwhereitcan

communicatewithallofthenodesinthewirelessnetwork.

●Don’tmountnodestostructuresthatwillmove.Ifthenodesmove,falsetriggeringmayoccur.

Makesuretosecurethenodesfirmlytosomethingpermanentandsturdy.

●Don’texposenodestoprecipitation(rain,snow,hail).OutdoordeploymentsofTMDare

experimental.Precipitationmaycausefalsetriggeringifwaterdirectlyhitsnodeenclosures.Make

surethatallnodesareshelteredforanyoutdoordeployments.

●Don’tplacenodesorPUsnearmicrowaveovens.Microwaveovenscancauseinterferenceto

XandemTMDsystems.Makesurenodesremainatleast5metersfrommicrowaveovens.

●Don’tplacenodesdirectlybehindlargemetalobjects.Thiswillcausesomeoftheradiowaves

toreflectawayfromtheinteriorofthenetworkwhichdecreasesperformanceandcreatespossible

sensitivityoutsidethedetectionarea.

●Don’tmountnodesdirectlyonmetal.Metalcandistorttheantennapatternsonthenodesand

negativelyaffectdetectionperformance.Keeplargemetalplanesatleast1footaway.

Choose a TMD kit size



TMDissoldinkitsof6,10and15nodes.Thebestkitsizedependsonthesquarefootageoftheareayou

wanttocover,andthedensityoftheobstructionswithinthearea.Usethetablebelowasaguidelinefor

choosingakitsize.Thesesizesmayvarydependingontheenvironment.



wiring.Insertbatterypackwireleadsintothe

TMDdeviceconnectorsaspictured.



Becarefulnottoreversethepolarity(+/)

whenconnectingthewiresasthiswill

permanentlydamagethedevices.



Powerupallnodes.Afterallnodesareon,the

twogreenLEDsshouldbeillumnitated.Ifother

LEDsarelit,pleaseseethe“LEDStatus

Indicators”sectionofthisdocument.

Deploy the nodes around the detection area



Placethenodesuniformlyaroundthedetectionareaatapproximately0.51.0meterofftheground.

Chooselocationswhereyouplantomountthenodespermanently.Rememberthateachnodeisnot

actuallyasensor,theconnection“lines”goingfromnodetonodearewhatdothesensing.Themorelines

thatcrossagivenlocation,themoresensitivethedetectionis.



Donotplacenodesonornearthegroundorthesystemwillnotfunctionproperly.Makesurethedevices

arecompletelystationaryasmovementofthenodeswillcausefalsetriggering.



Test motion detection and adjust sensitivity as needed



1. Poweruptheprocessingunitandwaitfor20seconds.ThetwogreenLEDsshouldbeilluminated



ifitisreceivingcorrectlyfromallnodes.Afterwaitingthe20seconds,iftheorangeoryellow

LEDsarelit,anodemaynotbeturnedonorconfiguredcorrectly,ortheareamaybetoolargefor

thenumberofnodesyouareusing.Pleaserefertothe“LEDStatusIndicators”sectionformore

informationabouthowtointerprettheLEDs.



2. Trymovingaroundwithinthedetectionareatoverifythatmotionisproperlybeingsensed.The

redLEDonthePUturnsonwhenmotionisbeingdetected.Youmayneedtoadjustthesensitivity

tomaximizedetectionperformance(seeinstructionsonhowtochangethesensitivitybelow).

Aftermovementhasstopped,itmaytakeafewsecondsforthesystemtostopindicatingmotion.

Ifnodesaremoved,itwilltakelongerforthemotiondetectiontoturnoffaftermovementhas

stopped.



Ifdetectionperformanceispoorevenafteradjustingthesensitivitythreshold,theareamaybetoo

largeforthenumberofnodesyouaretesting.Tryusingalargerkit,orreducethetotaldetection

areabymovingnodesclosertogether.



3. Itisimportanttoalsotestmotionontheoutsideoftheperimeterforfalsetriggering.Whenthe

areaisenclosedbyheavywallslikebrick,masonry,orconcrete,outerperimetermotionwill

usuallynotbeaproblem.Inopenorthinwalledareaslikedrywallorthinwood,motioncloseto

theperimeterofthedetectionareamaycausefalsetriggering.Ifthisoccurs,reducesensitivityby

raisingthethresholdasexplainedbelow,movenodesfurtherinsidetheperimeter,orrestrict

accesstotheareajustoutsidetheperimeterbyafewmeters.



4. Donotdeploythesystemaroundorneartreesthatmayblowinthewind,astheymaycausefalse

triggering.Ifheavywallssurroundthedetectionarea,treesontheoutsideshouldnotbeaproblem

regardlessofwind.



Tocheckthecurrentsensitivitythresholdofthemotiondetection,dothefollowing:

1. ClickS1onthePUonetime.

2. ClickS2onthePUtwotimes.

3. CountthenumberoftimesthattheLEDsblinktodeterminethecurrentsettingforthemotion

sensitivitythreshold.


