APT IP Silver –Encoder / Decoder
Quick start notice
1. Before you start
Make sure the box you received contains:
1 external power supply
1 box including: Documentation and software CD, Quick Start Guide.
!This unit does not deal with network related security issues. It is up to the user to set it in a secured
environment such as a private network, VPN, behind a firewall…WorldCast Systems cannot be held
responsible for the consequences of a security breach on the operating network.
2. Configuring your NextGen product
1. Configure each unit separately as all units are shipped from APT with the same default IP address.
If two units are deployed on the same IP address, this will cause an IP addressing conflict.
Once you’ve followed the entire procedure for the first unit, you will need to start over for the second
one.
2. Ensure that you have both units configured properly (that you wish to make the connection with)
and connected to a switch and the PC first before deploying on live networks.
3. Connect your Silver unit to your switch/router/network via the LAN port (ETH0) on the back of the
unit with an Ethernet cable (see connection diagram on the last page of this quick start guide).
Note: all Codecs are set up with the same default address –make sure that you have changed
these, in order to avoid an address conflict.
4. Open a web browser and type the following IP address: 192.168.100.110. This may be changed if
required using the System/Network page of the web interface. Ensure that your PC’s IP address is
set for the same network (192.168.100.xxx / 255.255.255.0)
5. The Default login is: User: Admin Password: admin.

3. Connect via DNS Hostname
Alternatively to an (unknown) IP address you can use the unit’s DNS name by using the syntax
below –this requires that you have an mDNS service installed on you PC (for details refer to the
user manual)

4. SSL Certificate Installation
System release 2.x requests a secure connection to your browser. You must install the certificate in
accordance with your browser instructions. You can download the certificate from the Codec.
On the first connection, your browser will deny the connection and prompts you to confirm a security
exception. You must accept this security exception at this time.
How to download and to install the WorldCast certificate is described in the user manual.
With this release the certificate does not appear correctly if the Codec IP address mode is set to
DHCP (IP address assigned from the DHCP server in your network)

5. Making a first Configuration (Encoder setup)
1. Navigate to “Connection” on the main menu and choose “Configuration Wizard”.
2. The Configuration Wizard lets you create a new configuration. It will take you through each step
individually as shown below. First enter a name for your new configuration. It is recommended
that meaningful names are used such as ‘Belfast to London News Report’, and then click the
“Next” button
3. You will then need to configure the Encoder algorithm, the bit rate and all algorithm specific
parameters. Some of them are computed automatically, and then click “Next”.

4.4. Keep the default ETH interface “ETH0:ETH0” (:ETH0 defines a virtual interface – refer to the
user manual for more information)
4.5. Select what casting mode you wish, Unicast or Multicast. For a normal point to point
connection, this will be Unicast
4.6. Enter the destination IP address (Encoder only). This is the IP address of the receiving unit.
4.7. Enter the IP port –ensure the other side of the link has the same IP port configured.
Clicking on “OK” presents the stream in the streams table as shown below.
5. Click on “Create” on the bottom of the toolbar to create the configuration.
6. To apply this configuration click on “Apply”. This will immediately reconfigure the codec to these
settings.
6. Making a first Configuration (Encoder setup)
The configuration procedure for the Decoder is similar to the setup of the Encoder. On the Stream
Configuration window you do not have to enter a source IP address.
The following window will appear on the Decoder:

you can keep the default value (150 ms). For HE-AAC in this example you need to increase the
buffer size as shown in the screen shot
7. Enabling this checkbox provides the advanced stream options
Clicking on “OK” presents the stream in the streams table as shown below.
8. Click on “Create” in the toolbar of the page to create the configuration (for Encoder and Decoder).
9. To apply this configuration click on “Apply”. This will immediately reconfigure the codec to these
settings (for Encoder and Decoder).
