Your wheelchair will normally be delivered folded with the footrests detached and all
other accessories packed separately.
CAUTION:
To avoid injury whilst folding and unfolding the wheelchair, ensure that hands
and ngers do not become trapped between moving parts.

This operation may be undertaken whilst in either a sitting or standing position
depending on which is the more comfortable for you.
1. Apply both wheel locks
2. Position the wheelchair or yourself so that you are facing one side of the folded
chair
3. Tilt the wheelchair toward you such that the rear wheel and front castor furthest
from you are lifted slightly off the ground (Fig 1)
4. Press down on the seat side tube furthest from you and the wheelchair will smoothly
unfold.
The foot rests should be attached to the wheelchair by inserting the protruded black
rubber end of the footrest onto the hollow of the upright tube of the foot end of the
wheelchair. Rotating the footrest to the normal operating position will cause the
release mechanism to click. This locks the footrest and prevents further rotation. To
swing and remove the footrest, depress upwards the black handle located on the
footrest assembly

1. Ensure the footrests are in the normal locked position with the footplates pivoted
to the vertical position. If the footrests are to be detached from the chair, remove
as described above.
2. Position yourself or the wheelchair so that you are facing one side of the unfolded
chair.
3. With both hands grasp the front and back edge of the seat upholstery along its
centre line and lift up. Alternatively, pull the carrier straps on each side of the seat
upward simultaneously. The wheelchair will smoothly fold. (Fig 2)
CAUTION:
To avoid injury whilst folding and unfolding the wheelchair, ensure that hands
and ngers DO NOT become trapped between moving parts.

Adjustment should be made by an attendant whilst the user is seated in the wheelchair.
Loosen the nut located along the footrest tube and slide the inner tube up or down as
required. When the correct position has been reached, tighten the hand nut. (Fig 3)
No tools required
NOTES:
1. The footplate height should be adjusted so that there is no pressure on the legs
from the front edge of the seat. As a general guide, allow approximately 20mm
clearance between the thigh and the front edge of the seat. (Fig 4)
2. To allow full manoeuvrability of the wheelchair in use, the lowest point of the
footrests should be approximately 100mm above ground level. (Fig 4)

CAUTION:
WHEN TRANSFERRING TO OR FROM THE WHEELCHAIR DO NOT STAND ON
THE FOOTPLATES (Fig 5)
Fold up the footplates and swing away the footrest assemblies to the side. To retract
the Right wheel (your chair should be installed with a Right Retractable Mechanism),
apply wheel lock on the Left wheel. DO NOT wheel lock the Right wheel at this time.
Push the Plunger Cam backward. This will release the slider mechanism to allow the
wheel to slide backward creating a wide open space allowing a transfer board to be
place across laterally to the adjacent bed or chair. Once the right wheel is retracted
backward, push the Plunger Cam forward to lock the slider mechanism. At this time,
apply wheel lock on the Right wheel. The wheelchair with the Right wheel retracted is
now ready to facilitate the lateral transfer. Similar procedures for wheelchair installed
with LEFT Retractable Mechanism.
After transfer is done, to retract the locked Right rear wheel forward to its original
position, release the Right wheel lock, push the Plunger Cam backward to slide the
wheel forward to its original position. Ensure the wheel is fully pushed forward before
pushing back the Plunger Cam backward to lock the slider mechanism. (Fig 7)

Stability and Balance
To ensure stability and safe control of your wheelchair, you must at all times maintain
proper balance. The wheelchair has been designed to remain upright and stable during
normal everyday routines, so long as whilst in the wheelchair, you do not move your
centre of gravity beyond the normal seating position.
Reaching – Bending Forward
Ensure that the castor wheels are orientated forward. If necessary, advance the chair
a little, then reverse it, so that the castors swivel into the forward position. Apply both
wheel locks.
DO NOT lean forward out of the wheelchair any further than the length of the armrests. (Fig 8)
DO NOT
attempt to reach objects by moving forward on the wheelchair seat. (Fig 9)
DO NOT
attempt to pick objects from the oor by reaching between your knees. (Fig 10)
Fig 8 Fig 9 Fig 10
Reaching – Bending Backward
Again, position the castor wheels so that they point forward. Move the wheelchair as
close as possible to the object in question. LEAVE THE WHEEL LOCKS RELEASED
– it is better to roll backward than tip over. Reach back only as far as your arm will
extend without changing your sitting position.
DO NOT lean over the top of the backrest, because it will shift your centre of gravity
and may cause you to tip over. (Fig 11)

Kerbs, Steps, Platforms
As a rule, when using the wheelchair without an assistant,
do not attempt to negotiate obstacles higher than 30mm
unless your wheelchair is equipped with anti-tipper wheels
to minimise the risk of tipping over backwards. (Fig 12)
Gradients
DO NOT attempt to climb or descend a gradient steeper
than 1 in 11 (9%). This is the limit beyond which the
wheelchair may tip sideways during steering manoeuvres
or when placed in a transverse position. (Fig 13)
Uphill
Bend your upper body forward and propel the wheelchair with quick, short pushes on
the handrims in order to maintain momentum and control of direction. If you need to
rest, apply both wheel locks. (Fig 14)
Downhill
Lean carefully backwards and allow the handrims to slide through your hands, but be
ready at all times to check the movement in order to control speed and direction. (Fig 15)
When climbing or descending a gradient, avoid any abrupt steering manoeuvres and
NEVER ATTEMPT TO NEGOTIATE SLOPES SIDEWAYS. (Fig 16)
