1. Before using the tempo™ 3 tempo™rary lifeline, to ensure
that it is operated safely and efficiently, it is essential that
users read this manual, understand its contents in full, and
comply absolutely with its instructions.
2. This manual must be kept in good condition, until the device
is taken out of service, and must be made available to all
operators. Additional copies can be supplied on request.
3. The information marked on the device (see “Marking” sec-
tion) must remain totally legible. If this information is erased,
the device must be permanently removed from use.
4. The tempo™ 3 tempo™rary lifeline is a fall arrest safety sys-
tem component, which must only be used in combination
with other components that are compatible with one another
and with the tempo™ 3 tempo™rary lifeline, and which com-
ply with the applicable safety regulations and standards, in
particular standard EN 363.
5. The tempo™ 3 lifeline can only be used, at most, by three
trained and competent persons, or under the supervision of
such a person.
The principle of any such training must include the procedu-
re to adopt in the event of a fall by one or several users. It
should also include a demonstration as to how to set up and
operate the tempo™ 3 lifeline on a full system, taking exam-
ple of an actual operating situation and using the appropria-
te safety measures.
6. It is essential to follow the instructions for attaching equip-
ment together to form the protection system, as detailed in
this manual and in the instructions supplied with the other
equipment attached to it.
7. In particular, each tempo™ 3 should be exclusively assembled
on a flexible anchor line, the specifications of which must be
strictly identical to those of the Tractel® anchor line, commer-
cialised for the stopfor’s corresponding model.
The non-compliance of this requirement can put the user’s
life at grave risk. It is thus the responsibility of the user, or of
his employer, to take stock of the available anchor lines to
prevent any mistake in this regard.
8. Tractel® strictly requires the use of a Tractel® anchor line
and declines any responsibility for using a tempo™ 3 with
any anchor line other than that of Tractel® origin and of the
model indicated for the tempo™ 3 model. Furthermore,
Tractel® can only guarantee a fall-prevention system, if it is
exclusively comprised of components commercialized, servi-
ced, assembled and set up, in accordance with the applica-
ble safety measures and standards.
9. Tractel® declines any responsibility for the operation of a
tempo™ 3 lifeline which has been dismantled other than
under its control, in particular in the event of the replacement
of original parts with parts from another source.
10. Any modification or addition to the equipment is subject to
prior written approval from Tractel®. The tempo™ 3 lifeline
must only be connected to the host structure using a Tractel®
anchor line marked EN 795-B with minimum tensile strength
of 12 kN.
11. Before using the tempo™ 3 lifeline, the user(s), or the autho-
rity in charge of user safety, shall have verified the solidity of
the anchor line fastenings in accordance with the rules and
standards in force. These must have a tensile strength of 12
kN.
12. Never use a tempo™ 3 lifeline with an anchor line (L) or a
tensioner (T) which are not in good apparent condition.
Any damaged tempo™ 3 lifeline must be returned to Tractel®
or to its distributor for repair, unless a decision has been
taken to eliminate it. Likewise, any anchor line showing signs
of wear or damage must be eliminated.
13. Any tempo™ 3 lifeline which has stopped a fall, or the securi-
ty of which is questioned, must be returned to Tractel® or to
its authorized repair company for inspection.
Warning Any such device can only be re-used upon written agreement
from either Tractel® or its authorized repair company.
14. Any repairs must be carried out in accordance with the
Tractel® operating procedures.
15. Never use the tempo™ 3 lifeline, and the components used
with it in the safety system, for any purpose other than that
for which they are intended, and under conditions other than
those described in this manual. In particular, never use the
tempo™ 3 lifeline for suspending the operator other than in
the event of a fall.
16. You must return the tempo™ 3 lifeline to Tractel®, or to one
of its authorized repair companies, or to a competent person,
for servicing at least once every twelve months.
The servicing should not only cover the functioning of the
tensioner (T), and all the associated equipment, but should
also ensure that all markings are clearly legible. The user’s
safety depends directly on maintaining the efficiency and
strength of the equipment.
17. Important: If you are responsible for assigning the equipment
to an employee or similar person, ensure that you comply
with the applicable health and safety at work regulations.
18. It is recommended that a tempo™ 3 lifeline be personally
allocated to a designated user, especially when the user is an
employee.
19. Any tensioner (T), or anchor line (L) permanently removed
from use must be destroyed or made permanently unavaila-
ble, to prevent use by mistake.
20. For security reasons, it is important to ensure that the device
or the anchoring point is always positioned correctly, and that
the work is carried out with the aim of reducing, as far as pos-
sible, any risk of fall and the height of the fall.
21. For security reasons, it is essential to verify, prior to each
use, the space required beneath the operator at the workpla-
ce to avoid the presence of any object in the zone of a pos-
sible fall and to avoid any collision with the ground.
22. Never use the tempo™ 3 lifeline if any one of its elements is
damaged or if it risks deteriorating the safety function of the
device. When setting up, it is essential to ensure that no
deterioration of the safety functions occurs.
23. The user(s) should be fit and healthy, both physically and
mentally, when using the equipment. Should there be any
doubt, it is advisable to consult a doctor.
The tempo™ 3 lifeline must not be used by pregnant women.
24. The equipment should not be used above its limits, or in any
other situation than the one intended (see "Conditions of use"
chapter).
25. Should the tempo™ 3 lifeline be sold to another country than
its original destination, it is essential, for the safety of the
operator, that the supplier provide all the operating and main-
tenance instructions, the instructions for periodic inspections
and repair, in the language of the country of use.
26. Prior to using the tempo™ 3 lifeline, it is essential that the
allocated user, or the authority in charge of his/her safety,
shall have verified that the solidity of the anchor line (L) fas-
tenings is in conformity with the rules and standards in force.
27. During use, you must check the adjustment and fastening
parts ; also check that the equipment cannot be damaged by :
sharp edges, friction, sources of heat...
28. When installing the tempo™ 3 lifeline, the installer must take
all the necessary steps to secure himself from any risk of fall.
