SafetyPrecautions

Please read these simple guidelines. Not following them may be dangerous or illegal.



Do not switch the phone on where Mobile Phone use is prohibited or it may cause

interference or danger.

Do not place your phone and its accessories in containers with strong electromagnetic

field.

Obey all traffic laws.Always keep your hands free, to operate the vehicle while driving.

Your first consideration while driving should be road safety.

Hospitals or health care facilities may be using equipment that could be sensitive to

external radio frequency energy. Follow all regulations and rules enforced.

Do not use the phone at a refueling station. Do not use near fuel or chemicals.

Follow all instructions. Wireless devices can cause interference in aircraft.

Keep the phone and all its parts, including accessories, out of the reach of children. Do

not use the phone while connected to the charger or with wet hand or bare feet.

Use only approved batteries and chargers. Disconnect the charger from the power source

when it is not in use. Do not leave the battery connected to a charger for more than a

week, since overcharging may shorten its life. Please remove the battery only after the

phone is switched off normally, otherwise it could cause unpredictable damage to the

phone.

Only qualified personnel should service the phone. Faulty service may be dangerous and

may invalidate any warranty applicable to the device.



Features

The R500+ offers the following features:

1. Toughshield Home Screen

The Toughshield Home Screen provides faster and easier access to features and applications. It allows users to tailor

the interface to improve their requirements and maximize efficiencies.

2. Dual SIM

The R500+ is enabled with 2-SIM card slots for USIM/GSM use

3. Camera

The R500+ has a 5.0 Mpx rear and 0.3 Mpx front cameras

4. Bluetooth

The R500+ supports Bluetooth communication with headsets, printer, etc.

5. Wi-Fi

The R500+ has a built-in 802.11 B/G/N radio for connecting to wireless networks.

6. Accelerometer

The R500+ responds to movement using a built-in accelerometer. When you rotate the R500+ from portrait to

landscape mode, the accelerometer detects the change and rotates the display accordingly.

7. NFC (Near Field Communications)

The R500+ supports NFC standards Read & Write and Peer-2-Peer data transfer.

8. Barcode Scanning

The R500+ supports 1D and 2D barcode scanning

9. Lone Worker Alarm

The R500+ has a dedicated and configurable Lone Worker Alarm button. This feature depends on user activation

(optional).



Getting Started for the First Time

The activation process is dependent upon your carrier. If you are using a GSM or UMTS carriers, you must install an

appropriate SIM card prior to installing the battery.

To get started:

1. Remove the battery cover

2. Installing a microSD card (optional)

A. Place the R500+ on flat surface

B. Using the screwdriver supplied, remove the securing screws

C. Remove the Battery Cover

D. Insert micro SD card into micro SD card slot (up to 32GB)

E. Insert the battery

F. Put back the battery cover and tighten the screws securely

4. Installing a 3G SIM card.

A. Place the R500+ on flat surface

B. Using the screwdriver supplied, remove the securing screws

C. Remove the Battery Cover

C. Insert SIM card into WCDMA card slot 1, or GSM SIM card in slot 2

D. Insert the battery

E. Put back the battery cover and tighten the screws securely

5. Install the battery

A. Place the R500+ on flat surface

B. Using the screwdriver supplied, remove the securing screws

C. Remove the Battery Cover

D. Remove the battery from the packaging.

E. Locate the battery contacts.

F. Insert the battery into the battery housing with the contacts facing top left

G. Press the top of battery into place.

H. Put back the Battery Cover and tighten the screws securely



There is an approved 1500 mAh Li-ion Battery supplied

Charge the Battery

To charge the battery:

1. Select the appropriate adaptor connector of your country.

2. Plug the supplied Charging USB cable into the rectangular slot in the power supply.

3. Plug the power supply into AC wall outlet.

5. Lift rubber flap on the side of the R500+.

6. Plug the micro-USB connector into the USB port.

7. The LED indicator blinks green indicating that the battery is charging. When the battery is fully charged the

LED indicator becomes solid green.

Carrier Activation

GSM/UMTS Activation

Upon start up, the R500+ looks for an installed SIM card

If a SIM card from a supported carrier is installed, the R500+ detects the installed SIM card and activates on the

GSM/UMTS network and configures the data connections.

If a SIM card from an unsupported carrier is installed, the R500+ detects the installed SIM card and activates on the

GSM/UMTS network, but the data connection and MMS connection information must be manually configured.

Refer to the R500+ User Guide for more information.

NOTE: If switching from one carrier to another, please refer to the R500+ electronic User Manual in the phone for

detailed information.

Power Button

Use the Power button to place the R500+ in suspend mode or to power off the device.

Power Off

To power off the R500+, press the power button for at least five seconds. When the dialog box appears, tap Power Off.

LED Indicator

State Description

No light indicates that the battery is not charging or the R500+ is not connected correctly to a power source.

Steady Red

Indicates that the battery is charging.

Steady Green

Indicates that the battery is fully charged.

Blinking Red

If the LED indicator blinks red battery is dead and won't power on until device is charged for at least 15 minutes



Locking the Device

Lock the device to protect your information and to prevent unwanted key presses. You can set the Lock to access the

device with or without a password.

The R500+ goes into lock mode when you press the Power button or after a pre-defined time-out.

When the R500+ is locked, you will still be notified of new messages, missed calls and upcoming appointments.

When you press the “Power” button to wake the R500+, the Lock screen displays. To unlock the R500+, enter your PIN

or Swipe your finger across the Home Screen.

Set up your device to use Google Play

To use Google Play to download Android applications, you will need to have a Google account with a Google email

(either Gmail or a Google-hosted domain) associated with your device. Follow these steps to add an existing Google

account to your device or to create a new Google account for use with Google Play:

1. Tap the Google Play Store icon.

2. If you haven't added an email account to your device, you'll be prompted to "Add a Google Account."

3. Follow the instructions on the device, which will walk you through either signing into an existing Google

account or creating a new Google account.

Once you have added your existing Google account or created a new account, you'll be able to use Google Play to

download Android applications.

Toughshield Home Screen

The Toughshield Home screen provides a user interface that allows the user to quickly access information using

customisable screens. Use your finger to slide the screen left to right or right to left to view additional screens.

By default, the R500+ contains four screens -

Home screen plus 3 additional screens

Home Screen

Press and hold finger on Home Screen => Dialogue Box will appear with 4 options that allows user to customise

the screen (Shortcuts, Widgets, Folders and Wallpapers)

Program Shortcuts

-Selecting the shortcuts option will take the user to a separate dialogue box (Applications, Bookmark,

Contact, Direct Dial, Direct Message, Music Playlist, Settings)

-Selecting the Applications option will then take the user to the list of installed applications on the R500+.

-Selecting an application will then create a shortcut on the Home Screen or current Screen

The user can add as many shortcuts to the screen as is permitted by the available space on that screen.

Tap on an Application to open/launch it

Program Shortcuts

The Program shortcut buttons provide quick access to favorite programs. Tap the shortcut button to launch the

program.

Refer to the R500+ User Guide for detailed information on configuring the Programs window and Program

shortcuts.

Device Navigation Bar

The R500+ has a Navigation Bar with 4 permanent touch buttons. These are –

Home Button, Menu Button, Return/Go Back Button and the Search Button.

The Settings menu allows the user to configure and personalise the device. These include -

Calling

To make a call:

1. Press the Green handset icon.



2. Use the on-screen dial-pad to enter the phone number. The number appears in the Call Line.

3. Press or tap the Green Handset Icon at he bottom of the dial-pad to start the call.

4. Press on the Red keypad to end the call.

In-coming Call Screen “Answer”

-To answer a call, slide the Green on-screen Icon from left to right.

Incoming Call Screen “Reject”.

-To reject a call, slide the Red on-screen Icon from right to left

Contacts

To add a new contact:

1. Tap Contacts.

2. Tap the Menu button on the Navigation Bar

3. Select a new Contact

4. Select where you want to save the contact e.g. to the Phone or the SIM Card

5. Enter the new contact details then Tap OK when finished.

Send an Email Message

Refer to the R500+ User Guide for Email set up procedures. To send an email:

1. Tap on Applications Icon => Tap E-mail Icon => Tap on Menu button on the Navigation Bar => Tap on Compose

Button => type the name of the Recipient, Subject => Compose Email

Send an SMS or MMS Message

To send a text (SMS) or picture/video (MMS)

Message:

1. From the Home Screen Tap the Green Text Message Icon at the bottom right hand side of the screen

2. On the next Screen Tap the New Message Bar at the top

3. On the next Screen, enter the recipient details in the “To” Bar at the top

4. Type the Message or attach a Picture/Video in the “Type to compose” Bar at the bottom of the screen

5. To attach a Picture or Video in the Message Bar, tap the Menu button from the Navigation Bar => select the

Attach Icon => Select the Picture/Video.

6. When you have finished press the SEND button on the right to send the message.

Take a Photo

To take a photo:

1. Press and hold the Camera button on the right side of your R500+ to activate the camera.

2. Rotate the R500+ to the horizontal position (for landscape orientation) and frame your subject.

3. Press the Camera button to capture the image.

Scan a Bar Code

To scan a 1D/2D bar code:

1. Launch a scan-enabled application.

2. Visit a Web Page.

3. To open the browser window tap on the browser application to launch the program.



4. In the Address field, enter a web address.

Connect to a Bluetooth Device

1. Ensure the device you are connecting with is in discoverable mode.

2. Tap Settings => Wireless & networks

3. Select Turn on Bluetooth checkbox.

4. Tap the Bluetooth settings bar

5. Tap the Scan for devices bar. The R500+ searches for Bluetooth devices in the area.

6. Select a device from the list.

7. The R500+ attempts to pair with the device

8. Enter the device passkey (e.g. 0000, 1234) to connect to the device, if requested.

9. Close Window

Connect to a Wi-Fi Network

To manage a wireless network on the R500+, tap Settings

1 Tap the Wireless & networks bar.

2. Turn on the Wi-Fi button.

3. Tap the Wi-Fi settings bar.

4. Under the Wi-Fi networks menu you will see a list of available networks to connect to.

5. Tap the wireless network you wish to connect to and if prompted, enter the network key to connect

NFC

Enabling NFC

From the Home Screen select Applications and then select Settings. In the Settings menu, press Wireless & Networks

then scroll down to NFC. To enable this feature press the button window on the right-hand side until a tick appears in the

window.

Use the Return/Back or Home button on the menu bar to return to the Home screen.

Note: Almost all NFC applications can be installed onto R500+ such as:

-READ/WRITE.

-PEER TO PEER.

-MOBILE WALLET.



Thethirdpartyapplicationsareanoptional.



LoneWorkerProtection(SOS)isanoptionalapplication.

Thisrequiresuseractivationwhereitisapplicable.


